When I try to download a .pdf

When I try to download a .pdf from a website it turns into a _jsp file and cannot download. Why is this happening?

What is your operating system?  What is your Reader version?  What is your browser?
Does this only happen with one specific file, or any PDF file?  Can you share such a link with us?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • Why is the tab name showing the old file type when I try to download a pdf from our wordpress sites?

We have two wordpress sites. On each site we have uploaded some pdf files that viewers can download. I noticed that when you try to download a pdf file the tab name that appears when you click "Download" is not the same as the filename. For instance: when I try to download a pdf file titled "Weekly Retail Skeptic". In firefox - the tab name will say "Microsoft Word - Note_2013_0523_Skeptic - Note_0523_Skeptic.pdf". It seems like the browser is reading what the file was before it was converted to a pdf.
I have tried both "print to pdf" in word as well as converting the word document to a pdf document using Acrobat.

    Hello brettak,
it seems like there is a bug with your Adobe® Acrobat® Plug-in for Web Browsers (version 10.1.3) and you should check for updates on the [http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/ plugincheck] website.

Let me know how it goes and thank you for your patience and interest in Mozilla Firefox!

  • When I try to download a pdf file from my bank, the downloader bails listing the file as "session.cgi" with no compatibility

Computer does not recognize the "session.cgi" as and Adobe compatible file, and suggests saving file to disk and opening from there, but I am not allowed that option

This worked in the past but I can no longer open the file using Adobe Reader or Preview. The issue is not only with documents from my bank. As an example, here is a problem link to a file on the National Library of Medicine website:
    http://dbgap.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/aa/wga.cgi?view_pdf&stacc=phs000016.v1.p1
I'm working on a Mac with OS 10.7.1 and FF 6.0.

  • When I try to download a pdf, firefox begins to open multiple windows and continues until I forcequit firefox.

I have reinstalled firefox without success, have run in safemode, and have tried resetting general user agent but no change. The behavior is like the old websites that opened continuous new windows until you quit the browser.

When I try to download a PDF from Adobe DC, I get an error message: "Adobe Acrobat Reader DC could not open 'nrneph.2015.33.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)"
I am using a Macbook Pro, OSX 10.9.5, Safari browser. Previous versions of Adobe Acrobat have worked fine for years.

What's the name of the file you are attempting to open?  Is it "ScreenFlow_4.5.2.dmg"?  If it is the correct name then the message is correct and you are attempting to open a file with DMG files extension and not one with a PDF file extension.  Adobe Reader opens PDF files an not any other file type.

  • Why do I get only a black screen when I try to download PDF files?

Why do I get only a black screen when I try to download PDF files?  I have the latest version of Adobe Reader.
This problem just started a few weeks ago.
I am still using Snow Leopard.
I have tried using Firefox instead of Safari, but still get the black screen.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
    Regards
    TD
