When i try to download windows support software it wont download. what can i do?

i have a 2006 macbook running 10.6.8 snow leopard.i want to run boot camp but the windows support software wont download

Downloading the support software only works if you are running Lion or if you have a computer, Macbook Air, that does not have an optical drive. Your post says you are running Snow Leopard. The support software/drivers are on your Snow Leopard installation disk.
Read the Boot Camp Installation Guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup_10.6.pdf

  • Boot Camp: Nothing happens when I try to burn Windows Support Software CD

When I run the Boot Camp Assistant, it asks me to burn a copy of the Windows Support Software to a CD or DVD. Whenever I insert a blank disc, it tells me it's ready to burn, but when I click "Burn", it just bumps me back to the previous screen, giving me the option to either Burn a CD/DVD, or Save a copy to an external drive. If I select "Burn a copy..." again, then it tells me it's ready to burn, etc etc, no amount of telling it to burn will advance. And I don't have an external drive, so I'm kind of stuck. I've tried both CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, and no luck with either. Any advice?

As far as it being embarrassing for them not to fix the function... UM THEY GIVE YOU THE OPTION TO USE WINDOWS FOR FREE ON YOUR COMPUTER INSTEAD OF YOU HAVING TO PAY $100 TO USE ****** PARALLELS. Just ignore the **** step, get your lazy *** to apple.com/support and download the updates, put them on a USB FAT drive voila... works.
More people need to go back to PC's... yes this is an elitest post but some people have the wrong idea about Mac's... Mac's are NOT perfect but they are ******* 100 times better than any PC I have ever worked with or owned... and I have owned machines and worked on machines you may only dream of.

  • When downloading Windows Support Software from BCA, download freezes at about a sixth of the way

When I download the Windows Support Software from BCA, the progress bar freezes at about a sixth of the way through. I took my MBP to the genius bar, and they told me I should use a USB drive instead of a DVD, but even when I use a USB the problem persists. I've even tried saving it straight to my Windows Partition, and the same thing happens. I've seen many people with a similar problem, but instead of getting something like "The Windows Support Software is not available", my download just freezes. I tried to uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery" in system preferences, but it already was. I also heard you could use the drivers on the SL installation disc, but I have a late 2011 MBP, which came with Lion, so I don't have an install disc. Does anybody else have the same problem or a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Oops, sorry. I meant to say Release Preview, not Consumer Preview
Like I said before, the progress bar just freezes when I do what http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4407 says. Also, that article was for an MBA late 2010, but I have an MBP 8,2 (late 2011). I don't think that makes a difference, though. The only thing I actually need the drivers for is for the wifi card, which W8 RP doesn't seem to detect. I tried looking for BCM4331 drivers on the internet, but apparently, broadcom doesn't let you download their drivers, but anyways, thanks for the reply.
This is exactly where the download always freezes, about a sixth of the way through:

Wait, it can take hours (as much as 4 hours has been reported, 1 is more common)

If I remember right there "may" be a problem if you have a proxie settings enabled.
System Preferences/ Network/ Advanced/ Proxies. Can't remember which one or if it was an issue in 10.7 or 10.6. Just make sure their all unchecked and try again.
You might try a search in these forums for more information. Different fix's for different issue's.
    Sorry I can't help more.........

  • Boot Camp Assistant stops at 50 % when trying to download Windows support software. Help! : (

    Hello.
I am just trying to install Windows on my late 2011 Macbook Pro. I clicked "Finder" -> Utilities -> Boot Camp Assistant and started downloading Windows support software. Problem is that it is stuck at 50 %. Is this a known problem? How do I solve it? Do I just have to be patient? Is there another way around?
Also, do I need an actual CD to burn or can I use an external hard drive?
I appreciate any help I can get : ) I don't know much about boot camp.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try downloading the Windows support software from the Support site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Apple only supports now the external drive as the method to install the Windows support software, but if you download it from Apple Support, you can decompress the file downloaded, right-click the folder with the drivers and burn them into a CD/DVD

  • Why can't I download Windows Support Software

For just over 60 hours I have been attempting, unsuccessfully, to download Windows support software for Boot Camp. I have mad 71 attempts, at all hours of day and night and have received the following message each and every time:
"Can't install Windows Support Software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
I have installed Windows 7 in a Boot Camp Partition, but am unable to use my Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. In fact I cannot even use a USB keyboard and mouse.
In Windows  I am only able to use a USB keyboard and mouse by hitting F8 as Windows 7 boots and going into safe mode. I would have thought I should be able to go into Windows normally and have USB keyboard and Mouse functionality.
From within Windows I have attempted to run the menu selection "Apple Software Update" - but installation is not possible in Safe Mode.
Here's are two other behaviors  that puzzles me:
    1. When I boot Windows into Safe Mode I can use the wireless keyboard to select which safe mode option.
    2. I can use the USB keyboard to log in to a normal boot up of Windows, but after that there is no response to either keyboard.
Any help on how to download the needed drivers will be appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Your using 10.7.2 on what model/year computer?
As far as not being able to download the files you'll have to do a search in the forums as there are a few that have had your problem, mostly form last fall, but different issues for different models.
Can you use the internet from the Apple Store, Library, friend, neighbor, etc, to try downloading them. You might have to give Apple a shout as this is just a user to user forum.
Can't use wireless mouse/keyboards as Windows doesn't have dirvers for wireless items, at least not Apple compatible. Only WIRED mice/keyboards are supported. As far as using them in Safe Mode, that is curious.
Maybe boot from the Mac's "Repair Partition" and Repair Disk and Repair Permissions in Disk Utility.
Well that's as far as my knowledge goes so good luck....

  • Downloading windows support software - stopped

I'm going through the first stages of tryin to install windows 7 using bootcamp through OS Mavericks and I've come up against a problem.
When in the downloading windows support software stage it seems to hang. It seems to have been stuck on about 60% for a while now and it doesn't seem to be doing much.
Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone know how to solve it?
    Thanks

    hehe
it was same for me too but its not stuck at 60%, be patience.
What was i do on that time i keep it for whole night and morning it was done so almost i kept for 12hr.
Try again it will be done.

  • Boot camp does not give me the option to make a partition, instead it just gives me the options to download windows support software, install windows 7, etc. I do not want any of these, I want to set aside the space on my hard drive!

Hello, I wish to install Linux Ubuntu on my macbook pro by using boot camp to set aside space. Whenever I load the Boot Camp Assistant application out of the utilities folder in applications, it only gives me the options to download windows support software and install windows 7. I do not want this, I just want to be able to slide that little bar to set aside the space on my hard drive that i can use for Linux. I tried just downloading the windows support software but my internet is immensely slow and it has been an hour or so since it started and it's not even half way done. When this download is finished will i get the option to partition or will i just be faced with those same options?
I am on a 13" macbook pro, with apple OS X snow leopard version 10.7.2
A lot of the data on this macbook was transferred over from my old macbook i had.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Thank you for reading.

Well thank you for your honesty.  Apple requires you have to have a Mac to develop iPhone apps, ergo my foray into OS-Xland. No way around it that one except for running OSX in a VM, which would have probably saved me some quid, true enough.
BUT for those interested parties: VirtualBox has a startup script in /Library/StartupItems/VirtualBox that will prevent OSX from fully booting on the initial (and required) rEFIt boot cycle. Once I temporarily moved that out of the StartupItems rEFIt went in as expected.
FYI, the openSUSE desktop running native is a little peppier than OSX native which was a nice surprise.  Now if the Mac just had more open source software we would have a deal. (:

  • Bootcamp Assistant: Downloading Windows support software... STUCK.

I've been trying for 2 days to get Bootcamp Assistant to run on my iMac 5K, and every time I've tried I get to "Downloading Windows support software..."  and it just stalls.   I even left it over night in hopes maybe it would advance some how, but nothing at all, just stuck at maybe 10%,
Anybody else get past this?   I see tons of people having installed Bootcamp already, how the **** did you manage it when you can't get appropriate drivers or software?

Wireless or wired doesn't matter (have tried both).
I've got a 150mbit down connection, which I've routinely run speed tests and other things since setting up the machine.  So I'm going to assume the connection isn't the issue.
Here's a dump of everything from the Console.  Any of it make sense?

  • Downloading windows support software slow

Trying to install on new mac mini a windows partition. Been stuck on "downloading windows support software" for over an hour. Have a fast connection, already downloaded win7 ultimate 32 bit iso. Not sure why its taking so long.
Tried this already with win7 ultimate 64 bit. Would not connect to internet and no bluetooth support. Deleted partition and am trying again with 32 bit version. Taking for ever. Have latest updates to mac OS.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

use Windows with VirtualBox VM for now.

Advanced Network: Proxy Settings, I uncheck "Auto Proxy detection" and make sure you have the interface you use selected and none others.
"Go into System Preferences - Network - Advanced - Proxies  Uncheck "Auto Proxy Discovery", click OK, Apply"
After Unchecking "Auto Proxy Discovery" I also had to Uncheck "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" and then Restart Boot Camp Assistant.
odiggy's comment and tried restarting Boot Camp Assistant. That did the trick, even though the Auto Proxy Discovery checkbox ended up the same as it started.  Windows support software is now downloading...  if you're downloading to an external drive make sure there's a least 1 GB of free space because the WindowsSupport folder is around 700 MB and presumably will grow with time.

Also, Change Domain Name Servers to OpenDNS IP address servers - that should be at the router firewall rather than the OS but may be in both for some people. You may be using the defaults your ISP uses, save those if you want, and try these:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Make sure you are not using LittleSnitch or Symantec (probably other 3rd party firewall)

  • Can't complete downloading windows support software

When i strat downloading windows support software from Bootcamp in my imac 2012 its freez in half and not completed? its look like miss seeding from server or somthing else , any one have same issue plz help

Instead of downloading the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it from the Support site to avoid problems. As you have a 2012 iMac, you have to download this support software version > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Note that this Windows support software only works in 64-bit Windows 7 and 8

  • HT4407 Is there any way to download these files manually from another source? The download from boot camp keeps stopping at around 25% and then produces the error "Can't download Windows Support Software because of a network problem". Thx!

No. This issue is dicussed here frequently. The only option is to be patient and try often. Search this forum for other posts about this issue.

  • CANNOT DOWNLOAD WINDOWS SUPPORT SOFTWARE

Nwtwork is not responding, this is what occurs when downloading Windows Support Software. I need to run Bootcamp and this is preventing me from doing this.

Thank you, I was expecting a shorter time frame without cancelling out, it took about two hours monitoring the progress and it finally created the disk even though the whole status bar did not completely run all the way across. Being use to Windows and PC I expected this process to be effortless, however I downloaded the manual afterwards to finish the bootcamp. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!
