When I try to launch Firefox I am told it is already running

I get this error message: Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. When I go to task manager/applications tab, nothing shows up, but when I go to task manager/processes tab, sure enough, it does look like it is running already. I went to msconfig and it does not appear that firefox is one of my startup jobs.
During shutdown, laptop has to do a forced shutdown sometimes because it says a job is still running (though I can not see one doing so). Again I go to task manager processes and there is Firefox, running invisibly again. What is up with this and how to I correct it?

iMessage only works with other apple devices.
If he does not have one, you will need to download an app such as text+ to send regular text.

I thought if I were to completely uninstall and re install it might help, but I cannot seem to find instructions to do this....

  • My homepage will load about 30% and then i'm dead in the water. when i close firefox it appears to close but when i try to reopen it tells me that it's already running. started with beta 6 i deleated and loaded ver 5 no change

when i start firefox, everything starts normal then my homepage (igoogle) starts to load, gets to about 30% and stops. from there i can click on links or bookmark and a new tab will open but no page will load. i can't get anywhere. then when i close firefox it appears to close normally but when i try to reopen firefox i get a message that firefox is still running but not responding and the only way to shut it down is to reboot. when it first occured i was running beta 6 (since it became available, i also used beta 4 & beta 5) i then uninstalled beta 6 and downloaded and installed ver 5 same problem. i then did a system restore to a time before the problem.. no luck. i'm not sure what to try next. IE & chrome both work fine

I'm in exactly the same boat - dead at blue screen, only option is to salvage using target mode.
I don't currently have access to another Mac to do target mode. I was planning to buy a new Mac this fall anyway, though. 2 questions in preparation for that purchase:
    1) Is there anything I can do before buying a new Mac to make the salvage process more successful? ie, should I spend the time and money going to the genius bar to have them help me get from totally crippled to partially crippled? (As for expertise, I'm a proficient consumer-grade user, but Apple Support walked me through the safe-boot process, etc.)
    2) Is Apple going to provide 10.5 once it is released to people who buy a new Mac in these 6 weeks pre-release?
    Thanks for your help,
    Bailey

  • When I try to launch firefox it won't open a window. It shows that it is running in the task manager but I can't see it open on the desk top. I am trying to run 10 on windows xp. Any ideas?

This started when I tried to update firefox. Have unistalled and reinstalled and cleared the registry but nothing is working.

The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."
4 Click "OK." This will remove most if not all of the Sysfader effects, at the same time correcting related errors that used to come up during opening a new file or program.

  • I have the Huawei S7 tablet running Android 2.1-update 1 and when I try to launch Firefox for Android it returns to the home screen. Anyone else have this problem?

I can install the application although it will not launch. I get the firefox logo before it returns to the application screen. When I check to see if it is running it is not listed.

Thanks for the report. We haven't tested Firefox on this device, and I'm not sure why it is crashing on startup. If you'd like to help us find out more, you can try both the ARMv6 and ARMv7 nightly builds at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android

  • Upon upgrading to 5.0.1, firefox asked to restart my system to finalize the upgrade. I've restarted 4 or 5 times, and when I try to launch Firefox, I am still told I need to restart my system. What is causing this issue?

Firefox has been running fine until this upgrade, but now I cannot lauch the client at all because it forces me to restart my machine.

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo nvram boot-args=""
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.

I am trying to install the trial version of Photoshop Elements.  It downloads fine and seemingly installs fine but when I try to launch it I am told it is damaged and to try again.  Deleted everything, dumped my trash and tried again.  Same problem.  Repeated several times and always the same problem.

  • Tried to update Firefox, it appeared to be successful, but when I try to launch it, it asks me to reboot. I even tried to remove it, but it just asks me to reboot, which I did with no result.

When I try to launch the app, it says I must restart to complete an upgrade of Firefox. I reboot, but nothing changes. It just keeps asking me to restart the computer. I even tried to do add/remove, but all I get is that incredibly annoying dialog box asking me to restart. It's a neverending loop.

Ive tried restarting and reinstalling and still ave the issue...

    Hello Deb,
Something fishy going on with those particular files. But without looking at them directly I couldn't say what. Usually in a case like this the problem is some of the metadata that is attached to the file. Where did these files come from? A camera, a scanner, the internet?
An explanation about the Watched Folder function: It looks for changes to a folder, not just automatically grabbing whatever files are in it. Generally, you want to select an empty folder as a Watch Folder. Once this has been set up, as you add files to this folder they will be imported into the Organizer. If you start with a folder full of images, those will be ignored, any new items will be added.
