When I try to put something in the trash I get a dialogue asking if I really want to do that.
This is a new problem. I can put stuff in the trash in all my other mac's but this one asks if I really want to delete it and it is deleted without going into the trash. I have no idea how to change this.

Those gray disks are machine specific and will only work with model of Mac that they shipped with.

When I download firefox, using recommended setting, or my own, all the sub files/folders like plugins, modules, updater end up on the desktop as well as in the file location. And when I try to put them into the file location, they don't. And when I delete them, FireFox won't open. I tried deleting FireFox and reinstalling it multiple times, and a message pops up sometimes that says FireFox may not have installed correctly, so I follow the steps, but all the extra icons on my desktop don't go away. This has happened every time I have downloaded FireFox. The browser itself works, but I need to know how to get rid of these icons, but still be able to use FireFox. I am trying to move a pdf file onto my iPad2, and it says that the device is not connected or has stopped working. But Windows 7 recognizes the device and I can see my pictures. Same thing happens when I try to put music onto the iPad.
When in iTunes on the computer,my our ipadmshould show under devices.
Click on your ipadmunder devices then go to music at top center of the iTunes window, check what you want to sync for music. You need to set it to a folder if I remember which would have your music in it you want synced.
Same with PDF files.....there should be an option for data or even PDF files at the top center area of iTunes when the iPad is clicked under devices.
If your iPad does not show or you cannot click on it under devices which is in the leftane of iTunes, the iPad is not being seen by the computer.
Try unplugging the USB cord from the laptop then give it a few and see if the computer picks it up. -
I have created an Apple ID and password but keep getting the following message when I try to buy something through the itunes store "Enter another Apple ID"
I had been buying things ealier with another Apple ID that I set up for my husband. The first time I ran into this I went ahead and set up another account for my self but am still getting the same message. What do I need to do?you need to review the account and verify it, including payment method. If there's no option that states 'none' next to the creditcard options, you'll need to use a creditcard for this.

When I try to install Maverick on the HD I get this message: This disc is used for Time Machine backups and then nothing happens!
Try looking in Finder at your Macintosh HD. Look to see if there is a backups.backupsdb folder at the root of the hard drive. That's a folder that Time Machine makes on external hard drives to store the backups. If you have one there, some one put it there; rename the folder or delete it. Then try installing again.

Since I started using Lion (10.7.2) I'm prompted to type my password if I want to add a folder or put something in the trash. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

Restart Lion and hold down the Command and R keys.
You will boot into the Repair Utilities screen. On top, in the Menu Bar click the Utilities item then select Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type resetpassword and hit Return.

At the bottom of the window, you’ll see an area labeled ‘Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs’. Click the Reset button there.
The reset process takes a couple of minutes. When it’s done, quit the programs you’ve opened and restart your Mac. Notice that ‘Spotlight’ starts re-indexing immediately. -

Unfortunately you've discovered too late how important it is to maintain an up-to-date backup of your iTunes library (and all other data of value). You could, before wiping the drive, have considered making use of a commercial data recovery service that could (albeit at considerable cost) have extracted your library from the hard disk, even if virus infected.
In the absence of that option, you will need to restore the content of your library from its original sources:

Likewise, most digital purchases from Amazon (including auto-rip copies of purchased CDs) should be available from the Amazon Cloud and via the Amazon Music application - the same may be true of other commercial sources for digital downloads

The specific situation that you describe regarding the music imported from your friend's external HDD suggests that either the source is badly organized and/or originates from a source other than iTunes (other media players may use alternative tags for information like artist, title, album, etc. that are not wholly consistent with how iTunes handle these). I recorded audio with Quicktime player and the sound files won't disappear from the desktop no matter how I try to put them in the trash...tried xing out the red x, putting them in the trash...right clicking to make them disappear...nothing works...
Just got rid of them... I closed Quicktime and was asked to delete. So I deleted them. Problem solved.

I copied my iTunes folder to an external HD and now I cannot delete it. When I try to move it to the trash it displays: The item “iTunes” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted.
Close iTunes. Click the icon to start it, then press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Choose the iTunes folder on your external drive. That should bring back all your playlists, ratings, play counts etc. You may have to settle for removing and reloading the media onto the device again. That's not too bad, but what you don't want to have happen is your apps being removed and reloaded as then you can lose settings and data. If that looks likely backup and then restore the device rather than sync it.
If for some reason rebuilding the library the way you did has moved files around then the restored library may have trouble finding things. If so post back and I'll explain what to do...

When I try to move an email to trash on my new Iphone 5, a get a pop up window saying it cannot move the mail to trash. Any ideas how to get rid of the pop up window??
I usually get that message when I have low/weak cellular/wifi signal.

I opened Firefox this morning and it told me I needed to download a newer version. I downloaded the new version. I got the image prompting me to drag Firefox to the applications folder. When I do that, it asks if I want to replace the old Firefox, I click 'yes' and enter my password. It tells me the file is locked. I open 'get info', unlock the file and enter my password. It claims I have read and write access privileges. I then try again to drag Firefox to the applications folder - it says the same thing about the file being locked. I check again under 'get info', and Firefox has reverted to being locked again. I unlock it again and without closing that window, i.e. when it is still showing unlocked, I try again to drag it. Same message.
Now I can't use Firefox at all because it has corrupted the old version I was using and I am unable to download the new one.
I am using Mac OS 10.7.2, Lion, on a MacBook Pro.What exactly is the error you get?

There's almost certainly a way to accomplish what you want to do (probably best from the terminal possibly copying the entire user dir and fixing up permissions, etc.) but I'm not sure you will end up with the results you want. There are plists in the preferences dir that you probably don't want to copy over (e.g., many of the com.apple.* prefererences). And many apps also create more than just plists. There may be stuff in Application Support, LaunchAgents, Internet Plug-Ins, etc.). And this would be stuff you do want to copy. Bottom line is it is not a trivial exercise which is probably why the system is slapping your hands for even attempting it -

ever since I installed "Fire Fox" I have not been able to print anything off the internet, although I can print item that come such as letters etc.
