When I try to restore my backup file, I cant find a valid password. What do I do now?

After a reinstall of settings, I tried to restore my backup of apps, etc. But I forgot my password, and don't know how to get my backup restored.

If you forgot the backup password, you can't do it. A password wouldn't be very effective if there was a way around it, would it? You'll have to re-sync everything and start from scratch.

Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.

Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup. 
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties. 
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File" 
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links. 
A JSON backup starts with: {"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded": 
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.

Hi folks, just yesterday i can restore my iphone 4 that have a problem when i restore from itunes, when i do the restore from itnes, always showed me the following error:

what I did was this: just when I will finish the process, when the status bar is at the end in the firmware, only put the sim card and go back to take out, I do this like 4 or 5 times and the process restoration ends so well. This method I tried it 2 times and 2 times worked. I spent like 10 hours trying to restore iphone without results, until I started watching the logs and the key is when you are upgrading the firmware sends a command to answer yes. And I hope this helps.

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

When I try to restore from backup, it says my phone is locked and I need a passcode, but it isn't locked

When I try to restore my contacts on my iphone 3G from my MacBook Pro, it says that my phone is locked and that I need a passcode, however, it doesn't give me the option to enter a passcode. I checked to see if it was locked and it is not. For some reason, the sync process thinks it is. Any ideas?

You're right about the computer. Our computer guy couldn't get my computer to work right so he used a coworkers. However, when it says I need to enter a passcode, it doesn't give me a popup or anything to do so...?

Any chance you encrypted your previous backup? It's a checkbox on the Summary tab of the device in iTunes.

Many apps are no longer compatible with your old 2G iPod.
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.

I can search for an email titile in search bar for my inbox and the email comes up, yet when I try to scroll thru my inbox i cant find it, and I know I just received it. My issue is if I didnt remember the heading I would never find this mail.
