When I try to sync I get an error massage that say: Apple Mobile Device service not started.

How do I turn on Apple Mobile Device in Itunes so it will recognize my Ipod?

Restart your computer. Run iTunes and check for updates. If there is a later version of iTunes available, download and install it. Then try again. If you still cannot see your iPad listed in iTunes make a list of all the things you have tried so that we can see exactly what steps you have taken.

Just updated to the latest version of itunes and now my iphone won't sync with my email or calender because the apple mobile device is not started. Anyone know any way roudn this - Apple wish to charge me to fix this. not impressed

It is working now. I no longer get the message about the item not being available in the US and I can access the store.

Your computer could possibly be running in selective startup mode where any nonessential services are disabled temporarily until a restart.
