When I try to sync my iPod shuffle 2gb all of my music can't be located. After I disconnect and reboot itunes it is all there. I have tried 2 shuffles. Both make my entire liberary dissapear once I click sync.
I'm not sure if the original poster ever got this issue resolved or not, but I'm having the exact same problem. My iPod shuffle is a 1Gig 2nd Generation, and I have all of my music library on an external hard drive. Before connecting my shuffle, I can play all the songs through iTunes perfectly fine, as well as sync them all to my 160GB iPod classic. As soon as I connect my shuffle, iTunes can no longer find or play any of my music, or sync any of it to the shuffle. In fact, it seems to make the external drive disappear from the computer entirely. When I right click My Computer->Explore, the external drive is still there, but no files are shown on it. After disconnecting the shuffle and rebooting the computer, the external drive is back to normal, until the shuffle is connected again.
For what its worth, this is a new problem, only started happening in the last couple months. I've had the shuffle for 2+ years now, and I have been syncing music to it from the external USB hard drive for just as long with no issues. Occasionally, I can sync 1-10 songs to it at a time before the external drive and all the music disappears, but for the last couple of days, the external drive seems to disappear as soon as the shuffle is connected.
Thanks for any help, I only use the shuffle for the gym/bike riding/snowboarding and I know they're fairly cheap to replace now, but I don't want to pay for a newer generation if I'll still have the same issue.

I have reconnected and tried again later numerous times and it hasn't worked! Has anybody else had this problem and knows how to fix it??? Help me!

Thanks for the info, anyway i just tried all of the options it gave me and its no good. It seems to be only in my account, since I could sync it in my sisters account. I have a 2GB IPOD with only 385 songs on it. I downloaded 2 CD's to iTunes and when I try and sync the IPOD I'm getting an error message that says I don't have enough free space. I thought a 2GB IPOD held at least 500 songs. I've even deleted songs from from iTunes library.
The figures that Apple used to use when saying how many songs coud fit onto any particular iPod were based on a 4 minute song at a Bit Rate of 128Kbps and that's the bit rate that songs sold by iTunes used to be in. However, now the iTunes Store sells songs at 256Kbps (as do many other MP3 stores) - which means that each song now uses twice as much storage space than before.
So if your songs have a bit rate of higher than 128Kbps, and/or they are all longer than four minutes each, that's why 385 songs is filling up your iPod. You can check how much space is being used when the iPod is connected to iTunes Library. Look on the Device panes for the capacity bar at the bottom of the window. How much space is being used by Music?
The solution is either:
Use iTunes to make 128Kbps versions to go onto your iPod - or,
Sync the iPod using Playlists and then choosing which Playlists you want on it. Smart Playlists may be the answer - you can set Smart Playlists up so that they automatically add and remove songs from your iPod, so that there is a constant change of songs (according to the rules you set) -

When I try to sync my iPod classic with iTunes 11 Contacts and Calendars, I get a message saying there are no Contacts or Calendars on my Mac. There are.

MY hard drive crashed and I had to replace it. Now when I try to sync my iPod with iTunes it says that I have to replace the old library (that is lost forever) with the new library to sync. I do not want to lose all the songs on my iPod! What can I do?
Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

You need to restore you iPod to gedure the "other" to its normal of less than 0.5 GB. A restore from backup works if the large other is not in the backup. Make sure that you turn off outo syncing (iTunes>Preferences>Device and check the box that says Prevent iPOds....syncing. Otherwise, the backup will contain the other.

"Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" is just some data that is synce with the computer. To turn off on the Mac go to System Preferencs>iCloud and turn off Safari -
Itunes/ipod freeze when i try to sync my ipod
yesterday i downloaded the most recent version of itunes. i successfully synced my ipod the first time. but now when i try to sync my ipod, itunes freezes up and eventually quits sync-ing.
i've restored my ipod twice, but it hasn't helped -- each time i trying to sync the ipod, it will begin the process, but freeze after 7-30 songs of 2200.

I have reinstalled iTunes several times and restored the iPod so that all data in it has been erased. When I try to synch the iPod to iTunes, first of all it copies very slowly, and then, it will fail after about seven or eight songs and I get the error message that the synch failed due to an unknown cause (error -124). I am able to eject the iPod and iTunes appears to work correctly. I've tried this several times and the same error keeps occurring.
