Try contacting iTunes via email to check if there is an issue with the account. go to apple.com/support/itunes
Click on iTunes Store account and billing and select inquiries. On the right side click on "email us".
Before doing that trying viewing your account information first. Open the iTunes on you mac, look at the menu and select store and select view my account. Try removing the card (this is only applicable if you don't have a pending charges with iTunes) and hit done. Sign out, quit iTunes and sign back in and try updating the apps again.

I have the same problem and signing out in settings doesn't seem to work. Somewhere, the old id is "hard coded" in the ipad because I used it when I purchased the app, I guess. You cannot change your Apple ID. You can get a new one if you want, but all of your Apps and media are linked to yoru old Apple ID. And no, Apple won't transfer your old ID purchases to yoru new ID.

There is no featured tab in my iTunes store. . . and everywhere it shows me signed in. I had downloaded an app for my mother on HER ipad, and that is the only app I have done for her. You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.

Thanks for you reply. I'm 99% positive that I'm using the user id and password that I used to set up my computer. That's why I'm stumped. I read the solution someone else suggested (type your user name without @gmail and create a new password. When I tried it, I was asked for my birthday. It didn't recognize it. I know I got my birthday correct. Oh well...

If you have Location Services turned on turn this off, then follow steps below:
Go to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Your_Apple_ID>View Apple ID
When you tap your Apple ID and select View Apple ID you'll need to enter your password, once done you can change the Apple Store.

The only way to get those apps registered to new apple id - to delete them and redownload again. If they are paid you have to pay again.

It is popping up because you have apps installed that you bought with the old AppleID, you can either delete those apps or buy the apps again using your new Apple ID, if they were free apps then not a big deal, paid apps obviously means you would have to buy them twice.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year.Then see if you can connect to the store.

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, whether you are currently using this ID for purchases or not. If you are being prompted for your sister-in-law's Apple ID when updating it means that there must be one or more apps on your phone that was purchased using her Apple ID. (When she synced with your computer it may have transferred this app to your library. It was subsequently synced to your phone.) The only way to stop the prompt for her ID is to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your Apple ID.
