It can also be an iTunes issue. Many of us, including myself, are not used to the new interface of iTunes 11 and would find ways to downgrade the available iTunes 11 back to iTunes 10.7 in Mac OS Mavericks. The only issue with downgrading (using AppZapper and Pacifist) is that you will not be able to update/install apps from the App Store after rebooting the Mac.
If you happen to have downgraded your iTunes in this method, then uninstall the iTunes 10.7 and reinstall iTunes 11 again - the App Store should resume its download/update function without any issue.
    Hope this helps.

This seems to be working for me. VPN using https://www.getcloak.com/ - 30 day free trial. Crossing my fingers since the download isn't done yet.
I had a hunch that my ISP was the culprit. I cannot download anything from the appstore that had more than 1 gig filesize. Xcode, mavericks, yosemite. They would all stop and give the "failed to download....use purchase page..." error the moment the appstore starts downloading.
None of the changing DNS, emptying of cache, on/off appstore, or restarting worked.

how to solve OS X Mavericks failed to download Use the Purchases page to try again.

I have found a solution for this issue.
OS X Mavericks failed to download, Use the Purchases page to try again
I was trying to upgrade Mac OS and kept running into this error message when I tried to resume interrupted download. I was able to get around this problem by following steps mentioned below, which were originally posted in this post.
    Quit App Store.
    Open Terminal.
Execute this: defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
    Launch App Store.
At the Menu bar, there should be a "Debug".
Click on that and press "Reset Application"
    Restart App Store.

    Hey Hamidpetra!
That message is referring to your past purchases page for the Mac App Store. More information on this can be found here:

Use the information in this article to find your past purchases and re-download your copy of Final Cut Pro. Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • IPhoto had an error when updating and now says: "Use the Purchases page to try again."

Before I went to school yesterday morning I started the iPhoto update so when I got back it would be done. So I looked to see if the update was finshed and it said: "An error haas occured" next to the update button. So I hit update again and it came up with what you see in the picture below.
So I went to the purchase tab and tried again and the same thing happened again! What do I do? Thank you!

    Hi there!
Did you get any explanation for that "8.8.8.8-solution"? Very strange but it seemed to work with me but only for some apps.
My problem doesn't look the same though. I managed to download all big apps like iPhoto and Xcode but the small ones never get installed properly. I see they are being downloaded but after that I get "Installed" button and a message to use purchases tab again and the app is not installed on Applications folder.
On ML 10.8.0 Mac App Store was downloading and re-downloading these small apps adn the only way I found to solve this was pause the download, add the 8.8.8.8 to DNS and resume. I worked for some apps.
On ML 10.8.2 Mac App Store behavior is a little different, I only get "Installed" button shortly after having hit "Install" and cannot even pause. After reboot I see an error message in red "An error has ocurred".
This is not happenning on Snow Leopard, what the heck have they done??
I tried all suggestions, reset Mac App Store, delete cache folder, I don't have any anti-virus running,
What's happenning? This is reallly annoying...

  • "Use the purchases page to try again" App store update error in Mavericks

When Mavericks came out, I did a clean install of the OS. The first thing I did upon logging in, was reverting iTunes back to 10.7 before I opened it so it wouldn't update my iTunes library files and make them incompatible with any version lower than 11 (I went backt to 10.7 some time ago).
However, this seems to cause a problem with the App store - specfically updating apps. Whenever I try to update anything, I get this error message:
After going to the purchases page, it then looks like this:
And so after trying to update it from the purchaes page, I still get this error message:
The only work around I have found to work is to update itunes to version 11, update the apps, then downgrade back to 10.7 again. This is a hastle so I'm wondering if there is an easier way. Obviously the app store in Mavericks needs iTunes 11 installed for it to work correctly - so I was thinking, was there a way to trick OSX into thinking that I have iTunes 11 installed when I actually have 10.7? I'm assuming there must be a file somewhere included in the version 11 install that the app store looks for to work with?
    Any advice/help would be appreciated!

    Ok,  time to troubleshoot then.
    Quit the Mac App Store
Run the terminal app in your Utilities folder
Copy & Paste this command exactly and hit return:
    open $TMPDIR../C/
In the Finder window that appears, place the com.apple.appstore folder into the trash.
Restart the Mac App Store and see if things work now.

  • Download permanently failed.  "Use the Purchases page to try again"

    Hi all
I purchased Keynote through the App Store and it seemed to be downloading fine getting to about 80% completion but then it failed and it cannot be resumed no matter how many times to try to restart it in the Purchases window.  It fails immediately, doesn't try to download further.
A reboot did not work.  Does not seem to be the Wifi as it was going well for 80% and then won't even try again.
Any help appreciated, this error is not covered by any Apple online help.
I kinda itching to start using Keynote!
    Greg

    Hi Dahveed
This is a vanilla Macbook Air so no anti virus or firewall installed.  We have the biggest ISP plan possible.
It's the fact that the resume function does not even achieve any further download, after having had no problem dragging down over 300Mbytes so far.  It's like there is a corruption in the download somewhere.
    Thanks
    Greg

  • "Use the Purchases Page to Try Again"?

I can't download or use HUNDREDS of dollars of software I've bought...for weeks now.
Apple, you're supposed to be better than this. Stop pushing out new products and fix the HUNDREDS of bugs I'm now finding on all the stuff I've bought from you.
AT LESAT figure it out so that your software can update, plase? That's pretty basic.
AND NO NEW iPADS until my APPLE TV WORKS RIGHT!

Mostly because there are dozens of these already, and rather than add my voice to the bottom of a pile, I thought, perhaps, apple might at the very least check the titles of their own discussion forums.
I have become incresingly frustrated that these discussion forums have become less and less helpful as the apple products become more and more bug-ridden. Everyone has the same bugs, especially with the AppleTV, but nothing is being done.
Workarounds often require us to use Terminal, with simple bits of code that I can't BELIEVE Apple never thought of or implemented.
I have an Apple iTunes Library that's too large for an internal hard drive, so I keep it on an Apple Time Capsule, which Apple set up for me. I've NEVER been more frustrated, as my library has become fragmented, lost artwork, lost FILES, and each time I find the fix, a new issue pops up.
Each time I send an E-mail to request service, they send me back the most BASIC information or links, as if they had NEVER READ the initial E-mail to begin with.
So, I started a new thread in the desperate hopes it will be seen. After years of trying to play by the rules, forgive me for instituting a rant.... it's pretty much all I've got left.
