When I turn on iPad it says connect to iTunes after attempting a restore

Been having a bit of trouble with my iPad recently so thought I would do a factory reset to try and fix it. So i put it on to do the reset using iTunes and left the room, only to come back 5 minutes later and see that my iPad is showing the iTunes logo with the USB plug-in image. Which I thought was odd as it was already connected to iTunes in the first place when i left the room...I disconnected and re-connected a couple of times with no luck, however the sound on my laptop was coming through as though the laptop was recognizing the device had been connected but no such luck with iTunes picking it up and recognizing the connection. I then tried turning the iPad off a few times and turning back on to no avail. I then started searching online for answers and solutions about trying to go into recovery mode but the iPad wont. When I press the power down button on the iPad I do not get any 'slider' or anything to swipe as you normally would when you turn off an apple device. When I try holding down the home button on the iPad whilst connecting the iPad to the USB which is connected to my laptop it does not go into recovery mode. But I am still hearing the noise as though the laptop is recognizing the device, it is just iTunes that is not. I do have the latest version of iTunes, as that is what I thought would be the initial problem so I downloaded it but it made little-to-no difference. I believe the system software on the iPad was up-to-date too.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? Been searching online for solutions for the best part of 2 hours now and nothing is seeming to work or make any difference.
If anyone can help I am grateful
Thanks

UPDATE: I have managed to get it working, after disconnecting and re-connecting over 50 times, iTunes finally picked it up and I have now completed the factory reset and everything is now working as it should

    Hi apiccolo5,
    Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

    These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
    Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.

  • Ye olde stuck in 'connect to itunes' after attempting to restore to factory

    Hi everyone.
    (I'm sure you've all seen this problem a gazillion times, and in-before-anyone-says "use the search feature", I have done, extensively all day, and have gotten nowhere despite applying the advice)
    I've been gifted an iPhone 4, which was locked to EE. Online guide from Vodafone claimed that choosing to 'restore' your iphone via iTunes would restore to factory and remove the lock. Unfortunately what seems to have happened is, iTunes has attempted to update me to latest iOS, and in the process something has gone horribly wrong, now I'm stuck on the 'connect to itunes' logo. Connecting to my computer results in iTunes error message saying: "Your iPhone can't be updated; you must restore it to factory settings. If you previously backed up the iPhone, click Restore Backup after the restore process completes."
    After completing the loading bar for 'Extracting software' I keep getting an error code 3014 which I've been able to ascertain is usually a connectivity issue. So far I have:
    Put phone into DFU mode as it crashed on the Apple logo (with a grey line beneath), which is what imo created this loop
    Setup port forwarding for all ports necessary for iTunes / iCloud
    Attempted to use 3rd-party program to Exit Recovery mode, worked but then went straight back into recovery mode.
    Disabled my firewall (Comodo) during attempt, still results in error code 3014
    Created a new user profile with admin priviliges, error code 3014
    Attempted to install an older firmware in case it's trying to update me to iOS8 or above, error code 3014
    Reset my hosts file, zero entries yet again, error code 3014
    I'm now at a complete loss as to what to try next... something tells me 'throwing at wall' or 'jumping up and down on' will not be viable solutions to the issue! Would greatly appreciate some help from the community.
    Oh also worth mentioning, I don't have another PC or access to one at the mo to see if it's my PC's settings that are causing the issue.

    Check this support document, if you haven't, for some additional troubleshooting steps. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201442
    If that will not do it, you can take a look at this and see if Recovery mode helps. If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    The last resort would be to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider for assistance in restoring.

    Place the Device into Recovery mode... All data / Content will be Erased.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
    Note on Recovery Mode.
    You may need to try this More than Once...
    Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
    Once you have Recovered your Device...
    Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
    Restore from Backup

    But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work

    Hi Stephanie,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
    It sounds like you're going to have to put the iPad in to recovery mode before you can restore it. The article linked below provides more details about the passcode lock and will walk you through putting the process of restoring from recovery mode.
    iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
    Use recovery mode
    Follow these steps if you never synced your device with iTunes, if you don't have Find My iPhone set up, or if you can't get to your own computer. You'll need to put your device in recovery mode, which will erase the device and its passcode. Then you'll restore your device as new or from a backup.
    Disconnect all cables from your device.
    Turn off your device.
    Press and hold the Home button. While holding the Home button, connect your device to iTunes. If your device doesn't turn on automatically, turn it on.
    Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
    Click OK, then restore the device.
    Cheers!

  • I updated the IPAD with the latest update and now when I turned the IPAD on, I get the itunes logo and then nothing else.  How can I fix this to let me use my IPAD?

    I updated the IPAD with the latest update and now when I turned the IPAD on, I get the itunes logo and then nothing else.  How can I fix this to let me use my IPAD?

    YOU ARE IN RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
    DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

    Ipad has been disabled

    You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode  : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset it via your computer's iTunes and restore/resync your content to it

    Same here.  I don't know how to solve the problem, but I figured out a way to close the app without re-starting or resetting the phone.  If you click ok and then press the home button twice really fast before the dialog box shows back up, you can put the phone in multi-tasking mode and close the app without having the shut the phone off or reset it.  Anxiously awaiting the fix for this since I have several apps I use that I can access at the moment.

  • My mini ipad is saying connect to itunes

    my mini ipad is saying connect to iTunes what do I do ??

    That implies that it's gone into recovery mode - connect the iPad to your computer by its cable, and you open iTunes on the computer it should recognise the iPad and you should let you reset the iPad back to factory defaults, after which you can restore to your last backup (if you've only been backing up to the cloud then after resetting the iPad you may need to do Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings on it so that you can get to the iOS Setup Assistant screens on it and be able to restore to the icloud backup) or just resync your content to it.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
  • My iphone 4 was working fine then said it had no network when tried to make a call now it wont work when try to switch on it say connect to itunes so done that then what??
    can some one help with my iphone 4 not switching on , well it show swipe to switch on wich says configure , when swipe it says connect to itunes.
    so hae done that but then what??
    Try holding the sleep/wake and home button til the phone turns off then turn it back on using the sleep/wake button. This resets the phone. If you still have trouble connecting to the netwok then try Settings>General>Reset>Reset network settings. This should clear it up. If not then try to restore your phone using itunes.
