When I uncheck "mirror displays" my laptop color changes badly

I have a new Vizio external monitor connected via HDMI and thunderbolt adapter to my Macbook Pro (2013) (10.9.5). In System Preferences, when I am mirroring displays all is well. But when I uncheck "Mirror Displays", the color on my laptop drastically changes. All of a sudden it's heavily orange and blue, although the color on my monitor is unchanged either way. Thoughts? Help!

Hello jmanf77,
The article linked below details how to go about calibrating your MacBook Pro's display after you've disabled mirroring.

  • Problems when doing a mirrored display

Hello there. I recently got a KVM switch to use for an iMac g3 and an intel mini. The intel mini works perfectly with it, and the imac does kinda. It should be noted that the iMac is running Mac OS9.2.2. I have both computers hooked up to a 17in lcd and a usb cable in each to switch the keyboard, mouse and printer. Ever since I hooked up an lcd to the imac and the kvm swich with its usb ports, the imac has been crashing constently with bombs and wierd messages. Any suggestions? Thanks

What do the messages say when it crashes?
From what I understand about using external monitors (which isn't much), LCD monitors have a native resolution that is not changeable, unlike CRT monitors. iMac G3s are only capable of going up to a maximum of 1024 x 768 resolution. I don't know what the native resolution of your LCD monitor is or what would happen if you attempted to connect a higher resolution LCD monitor to an iMac running OS 9.2.2. Then there is the possibility that the KVM switch isn't playing nice with OS 9.2.2.

  • Illustrator Showing Correct Colors, When Exported or Saved as PNG Certain Colors Change

How can I resolve this?  I am new and just downloaded the trial.
    Please help me.

Exactly, so if you change your colour mode to RGB (File > Document Color Mode), your colours in Illustrator will change slightly but when you export to PNG there should be no colour change.

  • No Video When 'Mirror Displays' Checked

I have a macbook pro with 10.5.7. I connected an acer 22" lcd. OSX extends my desktop and the monitor works perfectly fine.
When I check 'mirror displays', I completely lose video on both monitors. I have to pull the plug on the acer to make video come back on my macbook pro. When I reconnect, I lose video every time now.
How can I somehow uncheck 'mirror displays' without the other monitor connected so that when I do connect it, it at least extends my desktop again? The option and tab is gone unless a second display is connected. however, if i connect it, i lose video and cant get to it to uncheck! is the a plist or something I can edit?

  • Mirror Displays not working

After recently purchasing a new LCD television, I noticed the composite video out from my MacBook was not ideal - there were two sets of wavy horizontal lines.
I then bought a mini DVI to VGA adapter to use with the television's VGA input, which produced a much higher quality output, free of the horizontal lines.
The problem I have encountered is that I can only mirror the displays, not use different resolutions as I could with video out. I noticed some strange irregularities when changing resolutions. When attempting to uncheck "Mirror Displays" and perform some other tasks in the "LCDTV" window, there is a beep and then nothing happens. The "Mirror Displays" checkbox remains unchecked but no action is taken.
I am using Leopard, version 10.5.1. Is it possible that the problem is attributed to the LCD television? Is there any way to diagnose what the problem is?
    Thanks.

I assume you specified the screen in vlc's video preferences and that screen is enabled when you play the video.  I'm guessing it's probably a bug (yet another bug) in vlc 2.x which I also assume you are using.  I long since gave up on vlc 2.x and stuck with vlc 1.1.12 which never has problems selecting my desired screen for full screen display (my TV).
I suggest you look at and possibly post this problem to the vlc mac forum.

  • Apple TV Mirror display issue

I am currently using a 3rd Gen Apple TV with a late 2013 iMac. I can connect to AirPlay display and it automatically connects to "extended display" and the TV screen goes black however I get no options to use as a secondary display. When I click "Mirror display" nothing happens. I have tested on a later Macbook Pro, iPad Mini and iPhone 5 and everything works fine. Both computers are up to date and using OS X Yosemite.

    Hello andrewels,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are having trouble with AirPlay Mirroring. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

  • Iphoto displays distorted bright colors after calibrating display

Hi this issue has been occurring for the longest time. Sometimes when I calibrate my display or switch color profiles in system preferences and scroll up or down in Iphoto either (Events or Albums) A very bright distorted white and pinkish color will show throughout Iphoto covering all my photo's. The color intensity will change when I scroll up or down. This never happens unless I change the color profile in system preferences. Afterwards I will notice this in Iphoto. Is this a glitch? has anyone else experienced this issue? should I be concerned? Thanks

Thanks for the response. It doesn't just cover the thumbnails but all of Iphoto.
Scrolling up or down causes it to appear and change colors (either darker or lighter.) Once the distortion appears it doesnt matter if I scroll or not, it remains covering all of Iphoto.
This only happens after I change color profiles in system preferences.I haven't noticed this issue in atleast a month. Restarting the computer will fix this in Iphoto.
The colors that appear are red, pink, white or a combination. I rarely change color profiles or calibrate my display so it's a non issue for me but I was wondering if this was some sort of glitch or if other people have had the same issue as me.
Could there be something wrong with my Mac Pro? Next time it happens I'll take a screenshot of it.

  • Colors changes

hello actually i have downloaded vector file of ai and when i open in illustrator cs4 the file is in rgb mode when i change it to cmyk in file menue then document color mode the colors changed badly and unable to handle easily also when i cutt paste in new file it gives an error of profile mismatch i want to convert this in cmyk i also attached file of cs4 ai  what to do plz help

    Rehan Ali,
Unfortunately, still being with 10, I am unable to open the files.
... when i change it to cmyk in file menue then document color mode the colors changed badly and unable to handle easily
This is to be expected because of the differences between the two kinds of colours; for some colours, the changes are slight, for other colours it is impossible toget anything close. The use of the word gamut is sometimes questioned here, but it is quite instructive, as in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_gamut; you may continue by clicking on RGB and CMYK.
If you wish to have printed colours outside the CMYK, you may use spot colours; you may look into the Pantones.

For the "Arangements" option to appear, the external display must be turned on with the correct input selected and connected to the computer.  Then close system prefs, reopen, go to "Display" and "Arrangement" will be along the top.

  • MacBook Pro's Color LCD "shifts" when connected to external display?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with the hi-res anti-glare screen. I just noticed that the internal color LCD "shifts" its colors when I connect it to an external display (a Dell 2408 WFP). If I disconnect the external display, the colors internal color LCD go back to "normal".
I have two images to show what I mean:
This is what it looks like with the external display disconnected i.e. the MacBook Pro on its own: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4558641163/sizes/l/>
This is what it looks like with the external display connected: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4559271260/sizes/l/>
The wallpaper is from pixelgirlpresents.com. I didn't notice this problem before with my older 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.7).
My guess is that with the external display connected, somehow the color LCD decides to use the external display's profile as well (instead of its own).
Any ideas on why this is happening? And, more importantly, any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.

@Stefan: Thanks for the tip. I tried it but unfortunately it didn't solve the issue. The color is still off.
Incidentally, just out of curiosity, I tried these two things:
    1) I tried the "Mirror Displays" option in the Displays Preference Pane. With this option enabled, both displays actually displayed the right colors (right with respect to how each display is calibrated).
    2) I opened the same desktop wallpaper in Preview. Whenever I drag the Preview window so that it spans/crosses both displays (external and Color LCD), there is a light flicker in the wallpaper in the Preview Window. For that brief moment, I can see that the color is right before it changes to the shifted color on the Color LCD.
I found a possibly related thread on a different forum <http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37841>. That doesn't seem to help when both displays are connected.
Now, I am just wondering if this is considered normal - wonky color shifts between the desktop/different windows happen when you have two displays connected....
    Nick
PS: Note that I am not a graphics designer so my definition of right/wrong is just based on my experience looking at the wallpaper and remembering what it should look like on each display by itself.

My iPad 4 does not show up on my TV screen when in AirPlay mirroring mode using WiFi.  The iPad displays AirPlay set to TV with the Mirroring On (green).
My iPad IOS software is 8.2 and my Apple TV software is at 7.1.  The TV displays the Apple Menu.  The “Settings” does however displays the General menu allowing me to see:
    Apple software:          7.1 (7003)
Apple TV:                   Model No. A1464, Part No. MD199B/A
    Signal Strength shows 5 circles.
It does not display the iPad screen but when I use the BT Sport App I can hear the sound but there is no video.  I have searched the internet for a solution to no avail. The problem first arose when the IOS was at 8.1+ but it worked correctly briefly when I updated to IOS 8.2.  Can you help please?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

When I try to link my Macbook to my TV, I cannot find the "Arrangement" button that would lead me to "Mirror Display". Please help!

The Arrangement tab only appears in System Preferences Displays pane if a second display is recognized by the system (the OS).  So it seems like your MacBook is not seeing the TV as being connected.

  • My thunderbolt display makes a noise when plugged into my macbook pro laptop

my thunderbolt display makes a noise when plugged into my macbook pro laptop. It sounds like an electronic noise which doesn't come through the speakers. Any advice how to eliminate this?

Could be a poor ground.  Try plugging the monitor directly into the wall (no power strip) and see what happens.

  • Quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?

Is there a quick way to change "Optimize for" setting when "mirror displays" is on?
I have two displays on my Mac Mini for totally different areas; I can't see the first monitor when I'm on the second. One is 1280x1024, one is 1920x1200. As I switch fairly often I'm wondering if there is a built-in or 3rd-party-utility way to quickly toggle the "optimize for" setting that is under "System Preferences" -> "Displays" -> "Display" tab -> "Optimize for:" dropdown box.
As Apple sadly doesn't make a all-in-one keyboard / mouse - need one as one of the monitors is used for just a very comfy chair, so keyboard is on my lap - I'm using an Lenovo ThinkPad USB Travel Keyboard, model SK-8855, and some key cobinations, esp. with function keys, seem not to work on it. So something from the desktop context menu or that allows you to set the hotkey would be preferable.
    Thanks for any help,
    -DJBC

I'm thinking that, Display Menu from the Mac App Store will help.
