When I unzip an archive it switches to another desktop. Why?

Every time I open a .zip file as soon as it completes I am switched to desktop 6 (out of 6 desktops).
I checked if the archive utility was assigned to a desktop and no it is not.
I even installed the preference panes for the archive utility and nothing there about this.
It's not very important but it's the kind of thing that just gets on my nerves xD

Just in case anybody would relate I find out an important clarification.
It's not related to the ZIP application at all -
What happens is that I auto-switch desktop on APPLICATION CLOSE.
I get the same behavior if for instance I open Xcode on desktop 5
And when I Command-Q Xcode I will get switched to desktop 6 -
Probably because Mac decided to focus on an application that is opened there.
In my case there is MAMP opened on desktop 6
And it looks like this is the application Mac focuses on when an application closes.
At first I thought this fixed it: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4995042?tstart=0
But with this I won't get focus on ANY application when I click them in the dock.
Adding this information here in case it is relevant to anybody else.

You can either click on Mission Control in your dock/Applications folder & select a space or your can use 'CTRL+ left or right arrow to navigate through spaces'

Window does not update when I add a tab or switch to another tab

when I add a new tab, the new tab appears but the screen doesn't change. The content under all the tabs is the same.

A loaded page keeps refreshing unnecessarily when I switch to another task, why??

Hi, a few weeks ago I bought an iPad mini, and it's doing ok but I'm having problems when browsing and multi-tasking and I would like to know if it's a fault with the iPad or if it's connected to the wifi I'm using.
Basically I will have a few apps/pages open
For example Facebook, youtube streaming a video, and safari with a few tabs open browsing the net.
I will start to stream a youtube video then switch to my browser and load a page up to start reading it. Then I get a fb message, so go to fb to reply to that. 30 seconds later I will navigate back to the youtube video that was streaming and for some reason it will just refresh it's self to the youtube app home page loosing the video I was watching! Causing me to search for it all over again. The same happens when I navigate back to safari after leaving it for a minute or so, the page will just start to refresh it's self even though it was already fully loaded.
This is getting pretty infuriating when iv paid top money for a tablet that's supposed to be flawless at multi tasking, but I'm not sure if it's linked to a poor wifi connection maybe or if what I'm doing is exceeding the RAM capabilities of the iPad, surely not with 4-5 tabs open?

But to answer your question about exceeding the RAM of the iPad mini...
Keep in mind that it has only 512 MB RAM. Depending on the sites you view - and yes, Youtube and Facebook can be kind of heavy - plus any other apps that you have open, you could be running into that as a problem. If you are seeing what you think are Apps crashing, they might actually just be shut down automatically by iOS to save memory.

Spaces keeps auto-switching to another "desktop" when I open a certain app

I once opened an app (iTunes) in a 2nd "Space" ie virtual desktop and now every time I open iTunes, it switches me over to this other desktop even though in Dock I specified "Only Open in THIS Desktop".
Not interested in multiple "desktops", just want to do everything on one.
Anyone else have this frustrating experience?

Switching to another desktop using Ctrl+number

Hi All,
I just updated to Yosemite. All seems to work fine but it seems I have lost one of my loving features for switching desktops. I normally have 9 desktops, and I have certain apps assigned to each desktop. To switch between desktops I always use Ctrl+number. But after upgrading this seems that it not longer works.
Ctrl+ arrow left or arrow right does work. As it does Ctrl. +1. This is the only number that works, then I try Ctrl.+2, +3 and nothing happens.
Any clue what is going on.

In a nutshell, OSX considers the numbers located in the keyboard above the letters as different keys than the numbers located in the numbers block located in the right side of the keyboard. So when I clicked the ones on the right (which are the ones I usually utilise) the desktop would not move.
Ctrl+1 was working because I did reset it in the Keyboard -> Shortcuts section. Obviously, you don't realise that you are actually resetting the value, as the same value appears.
I reset all to be operational when using the numbers block and now it is OK.

Firefox turns off fullscreen mode after switching to another programme or desktop.

When i alt-tab or just switch to another programme or desktop from firefox in full screen, the full screen mode is turned off.

I also ran across another work around today:
It looks like there was an about:config entry that was created, but is no longer in the current build. It may be possible to create a new entry and add it back:

Unzipping the archive doesn't work

Hi all,
I just downloaded both windows versions of the new release of the program but when I try to unzip the archive it gives an error.
I tried with winrar, zipgenius and zipcentral but none of them are able to unzip it.
Any idea how to resolve this?

That would be a CRC error. I'd say: download again, since mine (and everybody else's) works correctly. However you say you got the same problem with the one that has the JDK included... is the extraction failing on the same file? If so, maybe someone at Oracle is fondling with the files? If not, I'd say you got really bad luck or a really bad Internet connection (so keep trying until you get it right).

UnZipping an archive with folders inside

A friend of mine asked me to create him an "auto-downloader" type of program, to download a ZIP archive, then extract the information to the user's computer (no, it is not harmful).
Anyways, I've been trying mutliple ways, and I've come pretty far with the one I'm currently using. The only problem is, I'm using user.home as the file location for the zip, and creating a folder in there seems to just not want to work. This is the only way I could think of doing it, but I'm sure there are easier ways.. here's what I'm using:

I've tried creating a directory for the folder, but it seems to not work, hence the "?" in the above error (i printed that if the directory failed to create a new directory, as seen in my above code). Once again, sorry if this isn't as understandable as it should be, I'm not myself without sleep :)
Also, do ignore the first print, 'invalid cache index specified', it's not related to the problem.

So your question is really about how to make a directory, then. Nothing at all to do with unzipping of archives.
If you can't create a directory, then perhaps there is some permissions problem. You don't have the authority to create directories in some directory. Or perhaps you're trying to use a name which isn't a valid directory name in your system. Or... there are many other possibilities. But anyway I recommend tossing all of that unzipping business out of your program and just trying to write something which creates a directory. Debug that first.

There are a few issues with the latest update of After Effects CC (I upated yesterday).
One which I never had before is the following error message:
After Effects error: Error (4) reading frame from file "Volume/MAC_DATA/sterne/Test.mov". ( 86 ::2 )
Of course I tried different drives, copied the file etc.
This happens when I rendered a clip and switched to QT player (leaving AE running).
After closing QT player I have the error in AE.
Anybody experiancing similiar problems?

The problem is back!
Today I have been working for about 8 hours on stabilization using mocha AE.
The problem came back when I wanted to render a layer. The same error message as described above.
On the ohter hand when I am switiching to mocha AE I am loosing my AJA preview in AE.
The preview was set up correctly in "preview-settings" and was working perfectly fine.
When I switch back to AE I see in the settings that "computer only" is the only available choice. Nothing else anymore.
Restarting AE gives all "preview-settings" back.
I already worked a lot like this with AE CS6 and never had these kinds of trouble.
About loosing connections. E.g. the first time I started AE CC there was no audio at all. Even the meteres did not show anything.
In the audio hardware settings I had to swicht to anything and back to "system". Only then the sound was available.
Everytime you delete the AE preferences you have to do that again.
And now after I restarted AE it wom't even read my files anymore:
After Effects error: File"593_0128.mov" cannot be opened, it may be in an unsupported format (86 ::1).
The movie is a DNxHD 185x from Avid and opened without any problems before.
It looks to me similar to the other problem I have.

this is coincidently after an ios update for iphone which i did just approx two days earlier which was suppused to fix battery issues?
also battery shows 100 percent full but as i explained if disconected from socket it switches off altogether.

Hopefully and most likely faulty battery. If you have Warranty or AppleCare, make Genius reservation and take to Apple for resolution.

This can happen when the video player (Flash plugin) has the focus.
In that case the plugin consumes all the key presses.
You will have to click with the mouse elsewhere on the page or in the user interface to make keyboard shortcuts work.
