When I update some of my addons, everytime I open firefox information about update is in new tabs, even "welcome to firefox" is always there in new tab! It's very annoying!
Ok I found a solution that worked for me, I simply dragged the user.js and the user.js.BAK to the desktop, before that I had done the same with the prefs.js and prefs.js.BAK, but that didn't help, so it's apparently the user file that was an error with.
It was the link from cor-el that helped me on the way http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
It's at the bottom titled User.js file locks certain preferences.

It have still not made a new user.js file, but everything runs fine, hope this can help others to.

July 18,2011 AOL toolbar update install. I cannot open Firefox to uninstall the update or the toolbar because everytime I open Firefox it freezes and jams up. You should be able to uninstall that AOL toolbar extension while running in the Firefox SafeMode. -

I have downloaded itunes, however everytime I open it up deos not detect my internet connection even though it is running. I can goto other sites when I open up explorer, but itunes just will not connect. Could someone assist? I have windows 7.
Set it up with SMB compliant names.. that means, short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Set a different name for 2.4ghz and 5ghz..
Set security to WPA2 personal with pure alphanumeric password.. 10-20 characters is usually plenty.
Set wireless channel for 2.4ghz to manual and try channels 11, 6, 1 in that order. -
I have a hotmail account sync. With my Mail on the Macbook and iPad, everytime I open my mac all emails are transfered from the iPad to the Macbook. Is there a way to keep a copy of the emails on the iPad? Or access them after transfered?

This has been a recurring problem. In the past I have had to manually reinstall Firefox from their website each time new version comes out. But then when the next version comes along, it never updates itself again. I would think installing the new, latest version from your website would fix this, but it does not. Why does the update feature of Firefox never work on my Win & system? Every time I install Firefox I use the same folder, but not the default. I am installing into "C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Applications\Mozilla Firefox". I would hope your updater would be smart enough to know that, but thought I should share. Everything else should be standard.
I am running Windows7, using only their firewall. I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed as the anti-virus.
I performed the following steps as you requested:
1) Run as Admin:
a. Closed Firefox and reopened “As Administrator”. It again asked permission to run since it was going to try to do the update again. But it just opened normally.
b. When I click on ‘Help-About’ it again says ver. 32.0.2 and downloads a 3.9MB update (again).
c. I click restart to update (again) and it still says 32.0.2 and again downloads the same 3.9 MB update, asking again to restart. So Admin made no difference.
2) Uninstall/Reinstall:
a. Using your link I then downloaded version 32.0.3 (I had to do the same thing on all prior versions, the last full download was 32.0.2. So this problem has been going on for quite some time.
b. I next uninstall both Mozilla Firefox 32.0.2 and Mozilla Maintenance services. I was not asked about removing personal data as you indicated I should have. Since you mentioned that I assume it should have asked. Why not?
c. There was no Mozilla folder under C:\Program Files
d. There was no Mozilla folder under C:\Program Files(x86) (this is where it had put the “Maintenance Services”, even though I had requested to install Firefox under the “Internet Applications” directory.
e. I deleted the Mozilla Firefox folder under C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Applications (even though this was uninstalled, there were five subfolders left and an .nfo file. Clearly Firefox does not do a clean uninstall). Will this bug eventually be fixed to do a clean install and delete all program folders?
f. I then installed version 32.0.3. By default it wanted to install to C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox.
i. Why is it installing only a 32 bit version when I am running 64 bit Windows 7?
ii. I changed the default to the one I used before (but was now deleted): C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Applications\Mozilla Firefox.
iii. I did allow it to install the maintenance service again, even though this never works.
iv. After installation there was still no Mozilla folder under Program Files, so it did not install any 64 bit – why not?
v. It did install the program under …\Internet Applications\Mozilla Firefox, as it should have
vi. However, it again made the mistake of installing Mozilla Maintenance Services under C:\Program Files (x86) rather than under the “Internet Applications” submenu as it did the main program as directed. This is an ongoing bug from prior versions. When will this bug ever be fixed so that it is installed in the subfolder selected by the user?
Since this is the same procedure I have to use every time Firefox needs an update, you have not solved my problem. Does anyone at Mozilla care and will get down to the bottom of this? Or should I just delete the Mozilla Maintenance Services since it appears it is not designed to function (at least not in Windows7)?
I have performed the exact steps you indicated and provided you with the steps and the results. Please answer all six questions above. I had highlighted them bold so you could see them, but your web reply stripped the bold, spacing, tabs, etc. and made the above less readable. Also, the Bold in your web reply also does not work - it only put quotes around and would not bold. Since your web response bold does not work either, please carefully find the six questions and answer them. Most importantly I would like to know a fix to this ongoing problem of the updates not working. I am tired of doing this entire process for every little update. Thank you.

Delete those apps that are not under your Apple ID and re-download them using your Apple ID.

Hi. I just wanted to update my 3 apps PS, Brigde and Indesign. After doing that I wasn't abble to open Brigde??? PS and Indesign works fine. Further more the Application Manager does not seem to register the updates I have made on Indesign and PS. Everytime I open the computer MacIBook 4.1, OS 10.6.7) it looks like I haven't updated software? Please help! Kurt

Information about updated packages
Often when I update my system I want to know what changes have been made to a specific package. Does arch have this information somewhere? On other distros there are places you can look up what the new changes are to a package. It would be good to know if the updated package is just a new build from upstream, a change in the configuration, or a patch to fix some security flaw. For certain things like kernel updates or binutils I can get paranoid upgrading and would just like to read some change log.
It seems like the most logical places for this in my mind would be a flag to pacman when doing -Suy or perhaps information about the update on the RSS feed for new packages.f4hy wrote:The -Qc option is great for the limited packages that have changelogs, but at that point it is a bit too late. You can query packages before they are installed, you just have to point it to a file with -Qcp.
The file must be local, which means downloading it first.

Today it displayed as 3 updates avaliable in Appstore icon, after open store and click update, nothing. but the number 3 kept in icon.
Have you just recently installed GarageBand '11?
This instalation downloads in two parts - first the basic application, and when you try to use an item that is not yet installed, GarageBand will try to download and install the missing instruments and loops from the AppStore. I am not sure at all, if this update will work, since there is now a newer GarageBand version at the AppStore.
But try the usual fixes and then let us please know, if it is still possible.
First, make sure, that you accepted GarageBand to your AppleID - sign into the AppStore and check the Purchased page of the App Store, if there is an "Accept" beside the GarageBand '11 version. If yes, accept. Try the update again.

Since updating to iTunes 10.6, everytime I open iTunes it shuts down "unexpectedly."
I updated my iTunes software about a week ago and ever since I cannot open it without it shutting down! It tells me that "iTunes quit unexpectedly" and sends an error report to Apple, then gives me the option to reopen but even if I reopen through the error page and not from my dock the same thing happens again. The program opens automatically to the sync page for my iPod and when I try to view all my music it shuts down after just a scroll. I can't look at or play anything! I don't want to lose all my music. Any help out there? I tried to download it again but nothing changed. I have nowhere to put my music to uninstall and reinstall, are there any other options?

I downgraded to iTunes 10.5.3 and I'm waiting for 10.6.1.

I haven't seen such information in any official document. But updating once a day gives you a good level of protection. You could make a schedule to install updates manually.

I open Firefox and my bookmarks are gone from the bookmark bar and now it has crashed 4 times and has frozen up twice.

The website shows on the bottom line with other websites visited, but will not open automatically, I have to go up to the mozilla.com toolbar and highlight the website and then go to the arrow and highlight it so that it turns red. Uses a lot of extra time.

Safari Just Quits - Everytime I Open It, After About 2 Minutes
Whenever I try to open safari on my G5 (Non-Intel, OS X 10.4.11) a box pops up:

From a prior post I see you did a clean install recently. So Safari crashed after that?
If you have the Develop menu enabled, go to Safari/Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Deselect: Show Develop menu in menu bar. Relaunch Safari and see if it crashes. If it does, go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

According to Google this could be a Java issue. Go to your Apple Menu/Software Updates. Make sure your system software is up to date.
If it is, download and install the v10.4.11 Combo Update PowerPC It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.4.11.
Then repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
