I followed all the steps for the restoration of my iPhone4 after updating, but after going through the whole process for restoration successfully and while preparing iPhone for recovery at the final stage of restoration, the system gives the following error message: the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. I first called apple and they patched me to a technician who ran a test and determined that I had a virus. He gave me some price quotes and who to call. After my conversation with him, which I knew was BS btw, I immediatley called Geek Squad with whom my computer has a warranty through after they installed virus software on my new laptop (4 months old). I had a VERY long online session where they ran several virus test and found nothing. Although I was VERY happy that my computer didn't have a virus, I still had the problem of my itunes not working. After several hours, he made sure that all of my apps were down loaded, and then restored my iphone to factory settings, and sync my device. It worked perfectly and all and I mean ALL 240 apps were downloaded back onto my iphone along with my music and all of my tones. When asked why my itunes was acting in that manner the answer that I got was,"...apparently you had a correct file some where in itunes and everything had to be reset". Regardless, everything is back to normal and I don't have to get a new phone or delete itunes from my computer. Hope this helps!

This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.

I received the same error message after I had recently updated iTunes to 10.5.1 and I had wirelessly updated 13 apps. I had to go into iTunes and select Apps, on the bottom right it said I needed to update 13 apps. I updated the apps via iTunes and then synced again without an issue.

I have a problem with updating my iPhone 5 to IOS7. Everytime I go to update the iPhone to IOS7, I get this "The iphone could not be updated. An unknown error (occured 4005)" error. It stays stuck at "waiting for iphone" then the 4005 error pops up after like 10-15 minutes of "waiting for iphone".
Also it leaves my iPhone in the "connect to itunes" screen after the error pops up. And when I try turning the iphone on and off and restarting it, the iphone still stays stuck at the "connect to itunes" screen and I have to use software to unlock the phone so I can actually use my phone.
The screenshot of this problem is below. Someone help, my itunes is updated to the latest version as well.

I've got a similar problem only mine says unknown error (2001). During the initial installation of this months update a USB cord plugging in the iTunes icon showed up on the screen. It stayed there for about 2 minutes and then the iPhone rebooted. It repeated this cycle more times then I can count. I'm happy to say that it is now working. But non the less I've been pretty frustrated with the iPhone and Leopard sometimes.
In response to a comment that it seems that every iTunes related software update seems buggy I would have to say that I agree. I've been using Macs since 1987 and I have to say that in past 3-4 years Apple has changed a lot. It's more popular then ever before. It's products are even more stylish and innovative then ever before. But the rising demand for Macs has forced Apple to cut corners it seems. In some ways Apple products aren't what they used to be.

I have just tried to install IOS4.1 on my iPhone 4 and it got to the point where it says "preparing iPhone 4 installation and then came up with an error saying "the iphone could not be updated. an unexpected error occurred" or words to that effect.
Now Itunes won't recognise the phone and it has the picture on the screen with the usb cable going towards the cd.
Please could someone help me, I feel lost without my iPhone, it's too good to not use.

im experiencing the same problem rite now. i just bought a 4s for my wife yesterday. when i tried updating the ios to 1.0.5 directly from the phone, it showed - 'Unable to Check for Update. An error occured while checking for a software update. and when i tried updating it via itunes, i got this msg - The iPhone "xxx iphone" could not be updated because the firmware file is not compatible.
my internet connection is perfectly ok here. can anybody help me on this?

If I do that, I get a message saying “There was an error copying to the Sent folder,, retry?”
If I retry it sends the uncompleted email. All I can do is keep deleting the message and carry on. Then the whole business might repeat itself.

Because the location for each song in your library is on your hard drive. If the hard drive isn't there, how can iTunes play it?
You'll have to move/copy the music from your hard drive to your computer's hard drive.
Basically, EASIEST way to do all this, if you don't care about your play counts, etc...
-Delete EVERYTHING from iTunes, so that your library is now empty.
-Go to "Advanced" inside of the "Preferences" window, found in the "Edit" drop-down. You can also access Preferences by pressing Ctrl+, (Press Ctrl and the comma key)
-Change your iTunes Media Folder Location to something simple, but on your computer. I use C:/iTunes. Make sure "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and "Copy files to...." are both checked. You can close Preferences now.
-Now, drag and drop your music from your hard drive into your iTunes library. iTunes will automatically add the music to your library, as you would expect, and also creates a copy of each file to place into that iTunes Media Folder you just created.
Shouldn't have any more problems...

When I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

This error generally indicates a hardware failure. Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.
