When I upgraded to 4.0.1 firefox lost all my tabs, and I saw no improvement in stability, only a "new look." So is 5 going to be the same way?

Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

Was the old Firefox profile folder removed or was Firefox reset to the default?
If Firefox has been reset then there should be an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.

Clicking on Microsoft Update opened Firefox, but Microsoft Update couldn't run from Firefox; when I closed Firefox I lost all my tabs and couldn't restore anything but the Microsoft page; how can I restore the tabs from an earlier session?

Make sure that you do not use [http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History Clear Recent History] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox.
Also please make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.
You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: Use custome settings for history. Uncheck "Always use permanent Private Browsing mode"

I had firefox open twice and accidently closed one, leaving one open. Then I closed the other. The first had 22 tabs open, the second just one. When I opened firefox again it only remembered the last window I closed, the one with just one tab open. This has happened once before and it remebered the window with one tab open, but I just closed it and opened it again and it remembered the window with multiple tabs open. This time, though it will not remember the 22 tabs and I ve tried closing it and re opening several times, but my 22 tabs dont re-appear. I ve tried contacting Mozilla and there is no way of doing so, unless I want to fly to the US and knock on their door, as their address is the only contact details they give. I really need those 22 tabs open again as I cant remember them all ! Some tabs have only been open a few days, some for months so a simple check in history wont help.
garferi, thanks for the pointer about File -> Exit. However, I find it a clumsy solution: no one is using File -> Exit if there is a closing button. No one will ever know this crucial difference between the commands unless they do specific investigation. There is no keyboard short-cut for that File -> Exit command either, even as the Mozilla folk are advising to use it.
Consider this. I have opened a lot of tabs. I have created several tab groups, and I have opened a lot of tabs in each of them. I open Firefox, do stuff, close Firefox numerous times. Then once I get a pop-under window that I miss. It's easy - they are designed to be missed. I want to exit Firefox, so I click on the close button. I am now left with the pop-under window. I close that one too, and upon the next Firefox start all my tabs in all my tab groups are lost. -

I've recesally had to take my Iphone to be repaired before I. took my phone i backed up my data into Icloud and when i got my new phone I have lost all my contacts and photos. Few times a week, ff opens after boot with random tabs from history open. But today it kept opening the same set of windows (not tabs) from random points of time from history. It stopped after I closed 4 of them and browsed a bit with the last and closed it with tabs open. Then it resumed opening the previously saved tabs. The usual situation with tabs occurs generally after I close firefox with no tabs and no websites loaded and I shut down the computer.
I do have a large amount of history, I generally clear only sensitive sites from history by searching and clicking forget this site.Dear Colbabomb; thankyou for your links.
So far, I looked at your first solution, Revo Uninstaller and it gives you a 30 free trial. Ergo, it will eventually cost money so I'm leery of using those kinds of programs in general, meaning most "free trials" have unwanted strings attached and often are big probs to get rid of later. Perhaps you can assure me that it is easy and very user friendly, before I proceed. And I already ran malwarebytes and it found nothing tho the program still can't be uninstalled. I downloaded Adw Cleaner and during the install, my Norton's security popped up and warned that there were (low risk) threats with two of their "other offers" and i hadn't even actually clicked to agree either of them. Nonetheless, Norton warned me against the "lyrics finder" and "deal ply." In fact, there was a box already with an x in it, saying that you are accepting deal ply if you x on "next." Well, except I unchecked that box before clicking on next, yet when it went to fully install, it still showed that it was adding itself; so, just before the install was 100% completed, I had to abort the whole thing. I really do hope your other suggestions are programs that you personally know that they don't try and trick you. But right now, I would not suggest Adw Cleaner to anyone. I even read the fine print about what they will try and install and how to decline and it still tried sticking stuff on that i believed I had declined. Anyways, i have to leave now, shall pick up later this evening, if my pc is still functioning. -

it depends how you uninstall it. If you delete the whole iTunes directory in ~/Music containing your music and audiobooks, then yes, your files will be removed.

When I right click on my Bookmark Toolbar to choose Open All in Tabs and click it, nothing happens. This is when I upgraded to 4.0. I've rebooted. How do I fix this?
You can middle-click a link to open the link in a new tab.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When I click on a .docx document Firefox thinks it is binary and saves it but does not open with MS Word. But it knows .doc is MS Word and opens it automatically (this is the behavior I would like with .docx docs.) In preferences -- applications - it is just says "content type" is "microsoft word document" but doesn't give a way to choose .docx specifically. Is there another way to do this?

According to your description, my understanding is that you could not edit documents with Office client application in SharePoint 2010.
Let’s do a troubleshooting about this issue:
1. Make sure that you have installed Office application on your machine.
2. Which explorer did you use for your SharePoint. Please test it with IE 10 32-bit, compare the result.
3. Please try to reset IE, compare the result.
4. Add your SharePoint site into Trusted site on your IE options.
5. Make sure all add-ons related to SharePoint are enable, special for SharePoint OpenDocument Class and SharePointOpenXMLDocuments.
6. Since you used OWA for your SharePoint site, please try to disable OWA, then open documents with client application, compare the result.

When I upgraded to Windows 7 I was told to uninstall iTunes and its helper services. Now when I try to install it I get a message that says "the files I'm trying to install are not native to this program. Is this being blocked by Windows 7 security that I'm not used to. I'm not using the Windows firewall. How do I find what process is doing the blocking. Any ideas would sure help. Rex
I understand where you are coming from. I had the Ultimate Tier at one point, but I didn't watch alot of those channels so I downgraded.
Another problem with changing my tier back up to Ultimate is that I was told I would lose the discounts associated with the package I have now. The discounts won't transfer to the new package and they can't give me an equal amount of discounts with a new package. At least with the Sports Pass, it is an add on like HBO, so you can cancel at anytime with no penalties or changes to your plan.
Verizon does advertise the Sports Pass on its website. Here are the channels. The only ones I would be interested in would be beIN and ESPN Classic, since I will be losing that channel sometime in May since I only have the Extreme tier.

When I upgraded to 10.7.4 I lost the ability to use a lot of my previous software that was intel based. My Adobe suites for example. So for $29 i now have to spend $1000's to get these to work. What has changed with Mountian Lion. I am not rich?
The reason your applications do not work in Lion/Mountain Lion is that they were written for the older PowerPC CPU that all Macs used up to 2006. When Apple made its transition to the Intel CPU, they licensed software that they included in all versions of OS X (from Tiger to Leopard and optionally, Snow Leopard) called Rosetta.
Rosetta miraculously allows PowerPC applications to work on the Intel processor transparently; you do not know it is even present.
The problem is that after 6 years of the transition, Apple's license to use the underlying software expired for OS X Lion and all version thereafter (and it is doubtful that the current owner of the software, IBM, would relicense it, even if Apple were inclined to do so).
So you do not have to accept recriminations from others for previously using Rosetta without even knowing it was present and running!
So for those of use that need to upgrade to Lion/Mountain Lion, I have offered the option to install Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7:

Error - 50 when trying to open iTunes. Have tried uninstalling all 6 components and reinstalling but no joy Happened after an upgrade. Can anyone help?
By way of experiment, let's try launching iTunes as an administrator.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "Program files (x86)" folder.
Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Does it launch without the -50 now? -

I have upgraded my iTunes for Windows and I have lost all my apps and music.
Although i signed in with my iTunes account, i can see only 5 apps (that i downloaded in the last 2-3 days), although on my iPad and iPhone i have more than 100 apps.
If i connect my devices to iTunes, the syncronisation will be made the other way, from iTunes to iPhone/iPad, so i will lose everything.
1. How can i restore these apps from the iCloud back-ups from my devices to my iTunes? Or any other method possible?
2. If you can also give me a suggestion about how to find my music playlists, that would save me from a lot of useless work on creating them again.

Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
In the unlikely event that all the media has been inexplicably and permanently removed from your computer, see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.
When you get it all working make a backup!

This is essentially paulbruster's answer, but I've added the steps some might assume, but which aren't so obvious to those of us who are new at this, like me.
This solution might ''appear'' to be long and complicated, but after you follow the directions once, you'll find it's quick, clean, and simple. Almost like they designed it this way.
# If you haven't already, open a bunch of tabs on a few different subjects.
# Click the List All Tabs button on the right side of the tab strip.
# Select Tab Groups.
# Create a few groups as described [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/what-are-tab-groups#w_how-do-i-create-a-tab-group here] , i.e. just drag them out of the main thumbnail group into the new groups they create.
# Now click on any thumbnail in any new group, but not the original big default group you may have left some tabs in.
#A regular Firefox window will open, but'' only the tabs in that group will be visible.'' You also now have the Tab Groups button in the tab strip.
