Move the incompatible iPhoto version to the Trash, before you try to reinstall from the AppStore, but don't empty the Trash.
    update as described here:
Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS... | Apple Support Communities
The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore Purchases tab with ⌘R, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.

  • Help! I lost my old projects when I upgraded to Yosemite.

Help! I lost my old projects, and old videos that were stored on imovie when I upgraded to Yosemite. It asked if I wanted to upgrade my projects, etc., but now they are not showing up even after I clicked that option!!! Please help! Thank you!

    Hello Andrew 97,
The steps below may help get your events and projects to appear in iMovie.
Verify that the latest iMovie update is installed.
    Open the Mac App Store.
    Click the Updates tab.
Click Update All or the Update button that appears next to iMovie.
After verifying that you have the latest version of iMovie, you can update your projects and events by following these steps.
In the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Home.
    Open the Movies folder.
In the iMovie Projects and iMovie Events folders, you’ll find a file named “UpdatedtoiMovie10.” Move this file to the Trash from both folders.
    Open iMovie.
Choose File > Update Projects and Events.
iMovie will update your projects and events. You can repeat these steps for projects and events stored on external drives.

  • I upgraded to Yosemite and lost my iTunes library

After upgrading to Yosemite, I lost the ability to pull music from my iTunes library. Is there something I'm missing to do in order for my music to appear within the iMovie app or is this a bug?

    Hello there, kcallene.
The following link from the online iMovie Help Guide, provides a great explanation of how to use iTunes content in iMovie 10:
iMovie Help: Add audio and music
    Add audio and music
You can add sound effects and music to your movies. iMovie provides a library of sound effects to choose from, and you can also use audio from your GarageBand and iTunes libraries
In addition, you can add background music to your movie using any audio clip. Background music plays along with the audio recorded with your video, and any sound effects or voiceovers you add to your movie. Audio placed as background music is edited separately in its own area of the timeline and is unaffected by edits made to other clips in your movie.
    HideAdd a sound clip
In the Content Library section of the sidebar, select iTunes , Sound Effects , or GarageBand .
The contents of the selected item appear as a list in the browser. To filter what appears, you can choose a category from the pop-up menu in the upper-left corner of the browser.
In the browser, select an audio clip you want to add to your movie.
    Do one of the following:
To add the entire audio clip: Drag the clip from the list to the timeline.
To add part of the audio clip: Select a range in the waveform at the top of the browser, and drag the range to the timeline.
The audio clip is now attached to a clip in the timeline. If you move the clip the audio clip is attached to, the audio clip moves as well.
When you want to add only the audio from a video clip in your iTunes library, drag the clip or range below the timeline and connect it to another clip, or drag the clip or range to the background music well
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and lost ability to send email!

UPGRADED TO YOSEMITE AND LOST ABILITY TO SEND EMAIL!!

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Please use mixed case in your posts. CAPs is shouting and is poor netiquette.

  • When i upgraded to mavericks I lost my microsoft office

I had office :mac 2011 and when I upgraded to Mavericks it lost my connection with my windows which I use the most.  Now it wants me to enter my purchase product key.   I have no idea where that is so now what do I do?

    farmwife wrote:
Thank you this is what I am doing and since I didn't purchase it directly through them they can not get me the code that I need.
Regardless of the means by which you purchased Office, it's Microsoft's product and Microsoft holds the keys to it (literally). Contact them.
Office 365 is a subscription-based product for which recurring fees must be paid. If you find that Microsoft's licensing requirements make their products inconvenient to use, I recommend that you avail yourself of any number of better alternatives. Some are free, others are nearly so.
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
NeoOffice ($30 but older version is free if you can find it)
    OpenOffice (donation-supported)
Numbers, Keynote, Pages - all free with the purchase of a new Mac, $19.99 otherwise. They are designed to integrate with iCloud and complement their iOS versions, also free with the purchase of an iOS device.
All of them read and write their Microsoft equivalent file formats. They require no license keys nor are recurring fees assessed for their continued use.

  • When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow

When I upgrade to yosemite, when I have to send and receive mail is very slow. Mails take a long time to be send and receive, and the mail boxes disconnect frequently. I am using the yosemite mail server and don't have this issue with user with Maverick.
    Many Thanks

So let me see if I understood it right... In Mavericks you didn't had this issue, this only happens in Yosemite and you are using Apple Mail, not another mail client. Have you tried in System Preferences > Internet Accounts unchecking and rechecking the email checkbox on your account?? If that doesn't works try deleting and adding your account.
    Sorry for the bad English

  • I upgraded to Yosemite and new Numbers.  Can not use my spreadsheet and can not find it.  How do I retrieve from time machine a previous backup?

I just upgraded to Yosemite on a MacBook Pro and also needed to upgrade Numbers.  However, I can not get a spreadsheet that I had prior to this.  I did backup to time machine.  How do I now restore to get that spreadsheet?

Open the folder you thought it was in and Enter Time Machine. Go back in time until your find it.
You can also use the search field in the Finder window in Time Machine to search for the file.

  • I can't open iTunes when I upgraded to Yosemite

I have a 2008 mac book pro. I recently upgraded to Yosemite and now I can't seem to open iTunes. In the app store under 'Updates' it says I have downloaded iTunes 12.0.1 on Oct. 18.14. But when I go to iTunes in the applications folder it says I have 12.0.1.26 on Oct.19.14. I did download the iTunes update before I downloaded Yosemite. I was thinking that I needed to uninstall iTunes. I used the 'sharing and permissions' method, but it didn't work. Help!

I have been having the same problem too but I solved it! You first have to click on the "Finder" icon then find the iTunes application in the application folder. After that right click on the iTunes icon and press "show package contents." Once that is open click on the "contents" folder, then click "Mac OS." After the "Mac OS" folder is open click you have on to click on the iTunes terminal. (It was the first icon in the folder, it saids "exec" on it.)

  • Upgraded to yosemite and lost a hard drive; how do i get it back?

How do I get a hard drive recognized that was left off after upgrading to Yosemite?

I wouldn't recommend trying to go back to leopard.
So you have a PowerMac or Mac Pro and multiple internal drives?
All your other drives show up?
Was it an older drive? formatted in any particular way?
If you have an external drive case and another mac, you might be able to try that, and see if it spins up. Or just boot up with the door off and try to feel if there's vibration on that drive.
You could look for trials of Data Rescue, Disk Warrior, Data Recovery Wizard ... and see if these applications will list the drive. They can look at a lower level what is connected to the system than disk utility gives access to. Tough call though without anything showing in disk utility suggesting the drive is still alive but gotten corrupted.
If you know a mac tech, probably not a bad idea to give them a call and see what they advise that you could try yourself. Chances are though that he/she/they just want you to drop if off suspecting a failing drive.

  • My Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner stopped working when I upgraded to Yosemite. The only scanner available is my Epson All-in-One.

I installed the new Yosemite operating system even though I was afraid something bad would happen. Well. it did. I can no longer scan photos using my photo scanner. I have updated all the drivers and it is still not working. I have an Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner, as well as an Epson WorkForce 845 all-in-one scanner, printer, copier. The 845 is on the network. The V500 is connected to my computer. For some reason, I keep getting the error that my V500 is not connected and when I try to add it, my mac does not find it. I know it is there. It was working before I upgraded. Help

You may have already done so, but if not...
    Try a different USB cable.
    Reboot your computer
Launch Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and Repair Disk Permission
in the left pane, click once on the name of your hard disk
in the right pane, click on the First Aid tab near the top
under the blank window, click the button "Repair Disk Permissions."
Afterward, click the "verify disk" button and it will check your hard disk.
    Now, try your scanner...

  • When I upgraded my firefox I lost my freecorder 4 toolbar. How do I get it back?

I received notice to upgrade my fire fox and when I did and my computer rebooted I noticed I had lost my tool bar for my freecorder 4. How do I get that back?

    Switching search engines
The name of the active search engine is listed in the Search bar and is identified by the small icon. In the following example, the active search engine is Google. To change the active search engine, click the down arrow next to the search engine's icon, and select a new search engine.

  • When I upgraded to Mavericks I lost access to iPhoto.

When I attempt to open iPhoto after installing Mavericks I get the error message: "You can’t use this version of the application “iPhoto” with this version of OS X.  You have version 9.3.2."  My iMac is running 10.9 and was running iLife '11 before this happened.
So I go to the Apps store to upgrade iPhoto and get the error message: "Update Unavailable with This Apple ID.  This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."
HOW do I fix this? Or is it possible to uninstall Mavericks?
Please help! This is a school computer and I really need to use iPhoto to do some Christmas projects with my students!

    carolyn,
This looks like an owernership issue.  Have you talked to the school administrator about it?
