When I  i use gmail in the Mail app, how do I flag  or "star " a message?

This feature is not available with the iPhone's built in Mail app.  You can access GMail via a browser to get this functionality.  Personally, I prefer accessing my GMail with a browser on my iPad.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact Apple ID Support, upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.
    The operator will take you through some steps you may have already tried, however they need to be sure they have exhausted all usual approaches before trying to reset your account, so you should try to be helpful and show patience with the procedure.
    The operator will need to verify they are speaking to the account holder and may ask you some questions that only the account holder could know, and you will need to answer them if the process is to proceed.
    Once the operator has verified your identity they will send a message through to your device which contains an alpha numeric code, which you will need to read back to them.
    Once this has been completed they will send an email to your iCloud email address after a period of 24 hours, so you should check that mail is enabled in your devices iCloud settings.
    Upon receipt of the email, use the reset link provided to reset your password, after which you should be able to make the adjustments to iCloud that you wish to do.

So, I tried to delete ONLY the emails in the Mail App but somehow (under Preferences maybe?) I also deleted ALL my OUTLOOK emails in my inbox.  Can someone please please tell me if there is a way to get my Outlook inbox emails back OR EVEN the emails that were in my Mail app - because even tho I never use the Mail app, at least the emails would be there.
    When I was trying to delete the emails in my inbox for the Mail app - I followed THESE directions.  It did in fact clear my inbox for the Mail app.  But then I went to log on to my Outlook account and EVERY SINGLE EMAIL was gone.  And not in the Deleted box.  Just gone.  Here are the directions I followed that screwed everything up.  Please help.
    Top menu bar, Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors.
    Uncheck "Store deleted messages on the server".
    At the drop list for "Permanently erase deleted messages when", choose "Quitting Mail".
    Next...
    Top menu bar, Mail > Preferences > General.
    At "When searching all mailboxes, include results from", uncheck "Trash".
    Select All = command A

    i found out my prob!
    here is what you do.
    go to the "system preferences" on your dock.
    click "software updates".
    click "installed software"
    if it shows something about a recent update about "EFI UPDATE, FIRMWARE, THUNDERBOLT" or anything like that, exit out of it.
    go to mail.
    click "mail" at the top.
    click "preferences...".
    find the account you are having trouble with, once you do, make sure its highlighted, then click the "-" at the bottom of the window (this will only effect that mail account, it will not effect your ical weather or not its synced thought that email account)
    hit the "+" (right next to the "-") and add your accout back!
    its something with that update that effected mail, i hope this works out for you, if not reply back

    Mail has stopped refreshing as it should. When I click the get new mail envelope, there used to be a sound after around five seconds if there were no new notifications. When I try that now the program just hangs. When I look at 'Force Quit', which incidentally I have to open another app or Finder window in order to access because Mail freezes totally, including the Apple menu, it says that Mail isn't responding. The Mac won't shut down sometimes because Mail won't quit. If I manage to open a mail and then go to another inbox, the whole thing is liable to hang. Using Apple help just before Christmas I cleared out the old cache that M.Lion left behind and now there isn't a cache for Mail.
    We are on Tiscali Broadband through a multi-port router and usually getting around 11Mb download speeds. My mail addresses are either tiscali.co.uk or gmail. It will not successfully send group mails either, despite the upgrade before Christmas. I never had a problem with M.L. and Mail. From looking at the Forums it seems I am not alone here. I also have a windows pc and an iPhone and they both access my mail addresses without any problem.

    The "LocalAccount" is "On My Mac" and doesn't correspond to an account on a mail server. That all I can tell you from the information provided.

    I have a MSN/Hotmail email account and that is my main e-mail. When i tried to add in on my mail app it says secure connection failed and that my e-mail may not be valid (when it is). from there i click continue, and a window says that it can not get mail "user name or password for "pop3.live.com" is incorrect. i click OK. i click save under the POP setting and another window comes up that says this account may not be able to send or receive emails are you sure you want to save. I clicked no. and chose the IMAP. it thinks for a while then says IMAP account verification failed. The IMAP server "pop3.live.com" is not responding. check your network connection and that you are entered the correct information in the "incoming mail server" field. When my connection is fine and the correct info is entered.
    HOW CAN I GET MY MSN/HOTMAIL ACCOUNT GOING ON THE MAIL APP??!!

    The free version of Hotmail does not support POP or IMAP access, so you can't use the Mail app.
    If you have a paid version that does support POP (I'm not sure if such a plan even exists), then I would recommend contacting MS's support people for your plan.

  • How can I get my emails back into my hotmail account from the Mail app

    Dear Apple support team
    I started using the Mail app some weeks ago because I apparently needed it, to be able to open an invitation for an iCloud shared photo folder. As soon as I registered my email into the Mail app all my emails from my hotmail account where deleted from the hotmail server. I really hope that this is possible to revert because if not, it'd be a catastrophe for me. I use that account from several devices for work, and I need those old emails in the server to be able to work again!
    I'd really appreciate any advice on this!

    You can use the iPhoto Export feature to do that. Furthermore, it's the best way if you want to keep the quality of the pictures.
    To put the photos in the Pictures folder, first open iPhoto and then, select Edit menu (on the menu bar) > Select All. Finally, go to File menu > Export, and export your photos to the Pictures folder, so they will appear on all Time Machine backups you create since then

    My outlook mail account doesn't work in the mail app, it keeps asking for my password everyday, and the outgoing mail server says "outlook.com (dissconected)".

    I don't have Hotmail, but generally, web based email accounts need to be set up within that account (in this case Hotmail) - you need to go to your Hotmail account and check if it can be set up as an IMAP or POP account with emails automatically being forwarded to Mail. Hopefully someone with a Hotmail account will chime in with more specific info; in the meantime, check out the options in your account there.

    This works for me: In the iPod's Settings select 'Mail, Contacts, Calendars' and delete the account that appears twice in the Mail App. The add same account. Go to Mail to affirm that the second account appears only once. Bingo!
    Once the second account is in iCloud it can be deleted and added to iOS devices without worries.
