When I want to open a new tab the plus sign doesn't work. What do I do to make that feature work?

This is a problem that I have found many work arounds to but I do not like to have to click on several things or push several buttons and would rather just click on the plus sign like in my sub accounts for win7.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

hey, just to keep you updated - there is now a fix available for firefox 25, which should address the particular problem of pages not loading unless the mouse is moved.
if you have downgraded to firefox 24 to work around the issue, please go to ''firefox > options > advanced > update'' and turn automatic updates back on. then go to ''firefox > help > about firefox'' which should trigger the update to firefox 25.0.1.
<br>in case you need to download the setup file for firefox 25.0.1 separately you can do so from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/#firefox

  • How do I restore the function of the awesome bar? I no longer get the awesome bar function when I want to open a new tab.

I do not know how to restore the awesome bar function. All I get now is the AVG Search window when I try to open a new tab.

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

  • I click on the plus symble next to a tab, to open a new tab, the plus symble turns blue, but nothing happens. Why?

I want to open a new tab, I click on the PLUS next to the last tab opened, it turns blue, but does nothing. No new tab is open

Caused by the Ask Toolbar extension in Firefox 3.6.13+, disable that extension or un-install it.

  • When i open a new tab the search box does not appear - what do i need to do?

i have been using firefox for a while and have been able to access the tabs to search for more info. Now when I opena new tab window it is a blank screen, with no facilty to do a search. what do i need to do?

OK friends. I was tired of running Norton antivirus and it slowing up my PC, so I installed McAfee and....guess what? Problem solved!! No more problems with the back button on new tabs. I'm glad it's fixed, but have no idea why and what the problem was other than something in Norton. Instant fix.

  • How do i open 2 tabs at the same time, whenever i want to open a new tab, the other one disappears and i cant get both at the same time

opening 2 tabs at the same time

    Hello Sandy.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I have to remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your problem, make sure your instructing Firefox to open the link in a new tab. For example, middle-clicking (pressing the mouse wheel or the central button of the mouse) the link will open it in a new tab.
If that doesn't help, it's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] (don't forget to select ''Disable all add-ons'' when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme and [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+plugins this one] for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.

  • Can I have a "New Tab" ( the plus sign on the Tabs Toolbar) open up my Default Hone Page Automatically?

The Top of this screen reads
"Ask a Question | Firefox help
"File Edit View History Bookmarks Tools Help"
"Ask a Question | Firefox Help |+| ( the "+" is in a grey square)
When I click on the |+| sign in its grey square, it Opens up a New Tab, good, and
Invites me to complete a web address, or to select from Web Address Favourites Toolbar.
What I would really Prefer is for it to Open up a New Page of my Default Home Page.
Is this Possible and as the default option in opening up a new tab.
Given that this |+| tab is not used when opening a new page from the Website favourites, and is also not used when opening a new page from an existingly open webpage, then What is its purpose if not to open a new Occurrence of the Home Page??

You can middle-click or CTRL + left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.
You can also Open New Tabs with your Favorite Pages using this add-on -> NewTabURL 2.2.3
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/newtaburl/
    * NewTabURL will not work until you set the page that you want to open in the Options for it.
    * Click Add-ons > Extensions, click Options next to NewTabURL.
Check and tell if its working.

  • When I open a new tab, the new tab used to show shots of 6 or so of the last sites I'd viewed, so I could easily click on one and go to it. Now it shows a blank tab and I have to type the URL of the page I want. How can I change it back?

It is probably a JavaScript link.
You can probably force it where you want it with a keyboard shortcut
    either "Ctrl+click" or "Ctrl+Shift+click". see

    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

Firefox is shutting down windows I want to remain open. Example: I am done viewing one window. I click the X to shut the window and it shuts two windows. Every single time, attempt to close one windows, two windows close. Lately, I have been opening several windows with nothing but google search, just so it will shut that window and not something else I want to remain open. I could understand this if I was using tabs, but I am not. This has been going on for over two weeks. I don't like going back to history to open a window, I did not want closed in the first place. Isn't that what 'Windows' is all about? Any ideas?

When I link to an external site, the link does not work, if I right click "Open in new tab" the link works.

I have not changed any of my preferences and they look like they are as I would have left them.
I tried resetting Firefox and deleting the preference file, no change.
By the way, I hate that the tabs are on top and not where they belong above the pages they are for. There should still be a way in Firefox to put them back without having to use an add-in.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

If you have accidentally removed bookmarks then use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks) to get them back.<br />
The Organize button is the first of the three buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager).<br />
That only works if you haven't closed Firefox.
