When iCloud goes to back up on my iPad, I get an error "the last backup could not be close

iPad won't backup to iCloud - error message says "The last backup Could not be completed" - Have tried several times.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • I am having problems backing up icloud. the message says, "the last backup could not be completed."  Has anyone had this problem?

I just purchased more icloud space and I ham having problems backing up icloud on my iphone 5.  The message says,"the last backup could not be completed."  Anyone know why this is happening.

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by going to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap your device under Backups, then tap Delete Backup and choose Turn Off & Delete at the prompt.  Then go to Settings>iCloud>Backup and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again.  If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails.  Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.

  • HT4859 What do I do every time I tap "Back up Now" (through iCloud) it always says "The last backup could not be complete". My iPad is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi.  I still have available 11GB storage from 15GB total storage from iCloud.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I have a new iPad, my iCloud account is set up and verified (I wouldn't be logged in and writing this otherwise), auto backups are turned on, but it's never completed a backup. If I manually select 'Backup Now' in iCloud Settings, it times out while estimating time remaining. Strangely, today my iCloud free storage space went from 5G to 4.9G then back to 5G. Annoyingly, I'm now getting reminders that I've never backed it up! The iCloud help I followed from the forum didn't cover this error message.

    Hi Gabby0213,
It sounds like you are going through the correct steps to backup your iPhone: connecting to power and Wi-Fi.
How much space do you have left in iCloud and how much are you backing up?

  • TS4036 on iCloud I get The last backup could not be completed?  I have 4gb of space

Hi trying to back up my stuff on icloud.  I can do it on the computer but it will not let me on my iphone.
i have 4GB space, so thats not the problem.
it says - The last backup could not be completed.
    any ideas?
    thanks

This may be caused by a corrupt existing backup that needs to be deleted, or by data on your device that is causing the backup to fail.  To troubleshoot these, try deleting your last iCloud backup (if you have one) by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and try backing up again.
If it still won't back up, you may have an app or something in your camera roll that is causing the backup to fail.  To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again.  If the backup is successful, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is causing the backup to fail and you'll have to located by process of elimination. • Why does the message "the last backup could not be completed" appears every time i try to back up my touch?

Hi, I'm trying to back up my itouch in icloud but every time I try to hit the button backup now a message that says "the last backup could not be completed" appears. I would like to know why does it appears and what can I do to fix it?
I would be grateful if you answer.

    Try the following steps:
Plug your iPod Touch to your Mac/PC using USB cable.
Open iTunes software and choose “backup to this computer” .
Then you need to do a sysncing.
Go to iCloud (iPod Touch: Settings > iCloud) and delete all previous backups.
Then in iTunes, Turn on “backup to iCloud” again.
On your iOS device, now you are able to backup to iCloud.

You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.
First check that your device is correctly connected to the wifi/internet (settings > wifi)
If your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.
If this doesn't help, try turning off some items for back up in a pattern to try to establish if your problem is being caused by specific data on your device.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.
