WHEN Illustrator is likely to be adding "rotate view" tool, (like they have in Photoshop) or are they NOT GOING TO?!

Hi everyone, I am trying to find out WHEN Illustrator is likely to be adding "rotate view" tool, (like they have in Photoshop) or if they are not going to do this at all.
I hope someone from Adobe Illustrator reads these forums and responds. There is an existing thread that has no official response from Adobe, and it has literally tens of thousands of views!? Please Adobe Illustrator, can you give people the official response they need so they can plan their workflow.
Apparently Affinity Designer is going to be adding a Rotate View Tool shortly and their app is only $50 one-off payment too, so perhaps you ought to respond before other people start making the switch? The rotate view tool is something illustrators really need, we already have it in Manga Studio, and it makes life so much easier. You can't really draw on a CINTIQ in vector form without it, at least not as well as you should be able to.
Can you please update your paying customers so we can make an informed decision.
Look forward to receiving a response.

    Hello,
On CS4 with RADEON 9800 XT card and 256 MB DDR SGRAM/SDRAM and with AGP 8x capability and latest drivers (as of Nov.10) I can't get the Open GL feature to work (it is blanked out in Preferences) and it also says that "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard" !!!
Is this the case? I can't use the rotate tool, etc because I'm using PS standard and not Enhanced?
    Thanks, Dan

  • Rotate View Tool Not Working

When I open any type of document in Photoshop CS4, the Rotate View Tool continually tells me that the:
"Could not complete your request because it only works with OpenGL enabled document windows"
I'm not sure what this means and would appreciate any advice. This tool would be very beneficial to me considering the type of work I do.
    Thanks,

The message means that OpenGL has not been enabled, most likely because either your video card does not support the necessary OpenGL functions or the video driver needs to be updated to provide this support.  In PS CS4 look at Edit > Preferences > Performance.  Try to check on Enable OpenGL Drawing.

  • Controlling the 'Rotate View Tool'

    Hi there,
I'm a Flash/Flex developer working with PatchPanel and SwitchBoard to build AIR apps that can communicate with Creative Suite tools.
I was hoping to write a PatchPanel plug-in that would be able to control the 'Rotate View Tool' in Photoshop CS4 however, when I looked through the DOM there was no mention of it within the JavaScript Reference. My next tactic was to use the ScriptListener plug-in to record the action but alas, the resulting log did not contain the 'amount of rotation' as a variable :-(
Can anyone verify whether it is possible to dynamically control the 'Rotate View Tool'? If so, how would I go about passing the desired rotation value from my PatchPanel plug-in to Photoshop?
I should also say that I do not have access to the Photoshop SDK and have no experience of C++ but am willing to invest some time into solving this problem because I have something REALLY sweet planned. I'll keep it a surprise for now but if I can find a solution then I'd be more than happy to share it freely.
    Many thanks in advance...

    Hi Andy,
It doesn't look like there are public APIs in the SDK. You've also found that what you want is not Actionable, thus no scripting support. Sorry.
Feel free to drop me an email and I can file a feature request.

  • ROTATE VIEW TOOL QUESTION-CS-6

First time I've tried using this tool (That's my excuse):
I used the tool to rotate the image, as desired, but saw no "Commit" / confirm command, as with the Crop Tool.
I wished to crop the image after applying Rotate View Tool, but when I select the Crop Tool, the image rotates back to it's original position???
    Leigh

The rotate view tool is strictly for changing the viewing angle, so that you can paint or use other tools without awkward hand motions.  It's set to return to normal.  If you want to rotate and crop, use the crop tool.

  • Rotate view tool over mouse center?

    Hello all!
As the subject states - is there a way to use rotate view tool so that it's center of rotation is on the mouse / cursor location?
I have tried different key command combinations and no go. If this is not possible at this point, then I would love to have that as a feature! It would be SO much more efficient and much less frustrating.
I hate having the rotation center in the center of the window rather than where I am painting. Now, if there is an option to do this somewhere then please disregard my rant.
    Thanks
    Ray

No, I don't mean that you wouldn't be using a mouse to do so- of course, you would be using the mouse. I am just simply saying that when you rotate the image using the rotate view tool, it doesn't spin the canvas around the point of the mouse, it spin's it as you said around the image window's center. That's all I'm saying.
To me it would be much faster if it were to have an option to spin around the mouse's center because, as I mentioned before, try working on a zoomed in corner of your image and then when zoomed in and in that corner of the document, use the rotate view tool, because you want to get a better angle for painting in that corner area of the zoomed in image. Spin the image 45 deg and see what happens.
The area you were just working on is now totally out of view and you either zoom out to find the area again and pan back to center that location and zoom back in to continue working on it or pan around to find and center it again. Either way, that stinks in comparison to just rotate the view based on either your last mouse click or where you mouse is at the moment.
    Do you understand?

  • Rotate View Tool

In Photoshop CS4, should one be able to rotate the canvas using the rotate view tool?
When I try to rotate the canvas a message appears saying that the tool only works with an OpenGL enabled window.
    What does that mean?
    Grateful for any help.

No, there's no printed manual for CS4.  But that's OK, the last printed manual that came with an earlier version of Photoshop was so bad that it was worthless anyway.
The Photoshop Help is found under the Help menu in Photoshop CS4.  From that link you can also download a 40MB PDF file containing the totality of the help files.
Of course you have bought a graphics card, and you do have it installed, otherwise you could not see anything on your monitor at all.
The short answer is to go to the Photoshop menu:
    Photoshop > Preferences > Performance… > GPU Settings >
If you have a box that says Enable OpenGL, make sure that box is checked ("ticked").  If you do not see it, or if it is grayed out, then your graphics card (also known as "video card") does NOT support the OpenGL features in Photoshop CS4 (such as the Rotate Tool, etc.).
    Hope that helps.

  • Control "Rotate View Tool" using Wacom touch strip?

Hi, I am wondering if there is any way to hookup the rotate view tool to the intuos3 touch strip. Preferably through a setting but I would be willing to develop a plug-in if necessary.
    Thank you,
    Nathan

Wacom wasn't jumping to implement this feature. They suggested I find a keyboard method. After some digging I found one. Open Wacom settings panel, goto the touch strip tab, select "Keystroke..." function, for up enter "r{Enter}{Shift}{Up}{Enter}" and down "r{Enter}{Shift}{Down}{Enter}". This will rotate your view by 10 degrees at a time. Remove the {Shift} and it will rotate at 1 degree increments; I found 1 degree to be far too slow. The only thing that would make this method a bit better would be a "select last tool" key-combo, as the rotate tool is still selected when finished. If any one is aware of such a command please let us know.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

  • Control "Rotate View Tool" (CS4) using Wacom touch strip

Hi, I am interested in controlling the rotate view tool using the intuos3 touch strip. This provides a much more paper like experience when rotating the page while sketching. Is this something that could be done with a plug-in? My development skills lie primarily in C# .net so C programming is a bit foreign to me, but I would be willing to develop it if no one else has looked into, or is interested in looking into this.
    Thank you,

  • Can't find the rotate view tool in CS5

Can anyone tell me where the heck the rotate view tool in CS5 is? The "enable OpenGL Drawing" is checked in preferences. It's on the tool bar in CS4! Can't find it anywhere in CS5. HELP!

It isn't on the tool bar. I'll have to check to see if it is hidden under the hand tool when I get back. I'll also check the "R" to see if it will select. I assume this is a shortcut operation? Thanks for the help. Do you know how to put it on the tool bar like it is in CS4?
