When importing from Canon XL2, audio is delayed by 5 seconds

When I import from Canon XL2, the audio track is there, but it is off by a few seconds. At first it was only about 1 or 2 seconds, but when I re-imported it got worse. It's fine when I import through iMovie, but I lose my multiple audio tracks.
I know I can re align on the timeline, but that's not the point!
Thanks for help

You may have nearly filled up your hard disc.
1 hour of DV is about 13GB. Trying to capture a 2nd hour would take you up to about 26GB of space used up on your hard disc.
It's better to capture to an internal disc, or to a FireWire-connected external disc, as USB - even USB 2.0 - can't necessarily keep up with the constantly sustained data throughput speeds which DV needs.
A Mac needs about 10% of your total hard disc space to be empty, to allow for its internal 'housekeeping', log files, virtual memory files, etc. So if you have an 80GB internal disc, with, say, 13GB of operating system & programs, plus, say, 20GB of pictures, plus, say, 13GB of documents, and you add 13GB (1 hour's worth) of video, that's 59GB, and you'll need about 8GB of free space, that's 67GB accounted for, leaving about 13GB empty for your 2nd hour.
But that spare 13GB of spare space may be scattered around the disc, and not all in one sequential region, which may be why you're getting stuttering.
Not only that, but there may be 'dropouts' on the tape (brief signal disappearance) which may not show on the camcorder (..because many camcorders substitute a previous frame of video for any damaged frame..) but may only show up when you try importing. This may happen if, for instance, you recorded at a slower than normal speed, e.g; LP speed instead of Standard Play speed.
So check, first, how much empty space you have on your internal disc, and see if your external disc can be attached by FireWire, instead of the - what's becoming almost ubiquitous - USB connection.

  • IPhoto '11 not responding when importing from Canon S90 with videos

    Hi,
I have a recurring problem attempting to import photos/videos with iPhoto '11.  If the memory card only has images, they import properly when using my card reader, but if there are also videos taken with my Canon S90, then the import hangs. Even if I force quit, iPhoto will continue to hang until the computer is rebooted. I also use a Nikon D200 and have never had any issues importing, though that camera does not take video.
Oddly, if I first copy my memory card to my desktop and then import from there (rather than using the card reader) then it will import.
    Any suggestions?

How big are the files? Iphoto has alwys baulked at importing large videos from the Card directly.

  • Crash when Importing from Canon ZR800

I just bought a Canon ZR800 MiniDV Camcorder. When I import into iMovie 08 it consistently causes iMovie to crash. I can then start the import from the point of the crash and it will proceed for a while and then crash again. Any suggestions?

I just got a ZR800 today to use to import some tapes and I'm seeing similar issues on. The only way I can capture from the camera is to disconnect any firewire drives connected to the machine. I've tried on two different machines (one with 10.4 and one with 10.5), but using the same firewire external (LaCie D2 triple interface). Doesn't matter if the drive is plugged in via Firewire 400 or Firewire 800. Un-plug the drive and everything's fine.
I'll try with another external drive once I've finished importing the video I need to get off the camera. I suspect, from other reports on the Net and here, that the behaviour will be the same with other firewire drives. I'll also give a USB drive a try.

  • "No photos found" when importing from Canon 7D via USB

Lightroom has no problem finding my Canon 7D. In the Import dialog, my camera shows up as "Canon 7D" under Source. Still, in the main window it's always that "No photos found" message. :-(
I have formatted the memory card (Sandisk Extreme Pro 32GB and other cards as well) in the camera a several times, taken some pictures and retried importing. Always that "No photos found".
Using EOS Utility is never a problem when importing.
My OS is Windows 7. Firmware 2.0 in camera. EOS Utility version 2.11.4.0
    Always the latest Lightroom version.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Ken –
I have Windows 7, PhotoShop Elements 10, and trying this in the organizer.  Basically, I open Photoshop, login to Adobe ID, and then the black screen comes up.  I went to:
File, then “get photos and video”, then “get from camera or card reader”
Elements Organizer – Photo downloader box opens up
There’s a pull down menu asking where to get photos from under the source box but it says “no device found” and doesn’t give me options
I have an older Canon EOS Rebel XT or 350D Digital camera (approx. from 2005).  Elements does mention that sometimes you have to download the software from the original camera to then be able to download the photos to photoshop.  I was trying to avoid this step and not download this really outdated software on my laptop but if that turns out to be the only way to import my photos, I may not have a choice.  If you can suggest where I am going wrong with trying to download the photos, please do so.  I have the cord plugged correctly from my camera to the USB port on my HP laptop.
    Thank you!

  • No previews when importing from Canon 40D

I apologize if this issue has been discussed before, but my search techniques dont seem to be coming up with anything useful in the forum search.
I have recently purchased a Canon 40D and when importing directly from the camera cannot see the .cr2 previews. I only see the file names and grey squares. The import function works just fine, I just cant see previews. I have installed the Canon codec and tried the various previews settings (minimal, 1:1, etc..) but nothing seems to fix the issue.
I have LR 2.3 installed on a Windows XP system.
    Thanks
    Michael

Going back to a standard screen profil has ever solved the known "grey miniatures" issue, as far as I know.
I have tons of examples on a French Lightroom forum.
That's pretty strange that it didn't solve the issue for you...
Let's take it the other way round:
When a Canon camera is connected directly to a desktop via USB, because of specific drivers/protocol used by Canon, camera is not recognized as a standard mass storage.
By the way, it is way better to use a card reader to avoid this type of issue.

  • Importing from Canon XL2 through Firewire without Tape?

I know Log & Capture was lumped into the Import from camera feature, but it doesn't seem to work the same way.
I'm doing a live video capture, and I don't want to use any MiniDV tapes in the camera, so I would like to simply record the image coming from the camera straight into FCPX, bypassing the need for any tapes in the camera. When I try the import, it gives me the timecode for the import in the left corner to signify how long the import is, but the camera timecode in the top right stays at 00:00:00. When I click "Stop import," there aren't any imported files in my event.
I've tested the opposite and put a tape in the camera, everything imports as expected while it records to tape. Any ideas? Is this one of the features removed? I know people are talking about the support for tape going away, so thats what I'm trying to do, take the tape out of the equasion.
    Thanks in advance!
    Skip

All right: FCPX needs a timecode tied to imported/captured video. Period. But why can iMovie do direct, tapeless capture, when FCPX can't?  Would it be so tough for Final Cut to ADD a (fake) timecode when uncoded video is imported? Is that what iMovie does?

  • Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

Why won't Aperture 2 support RAW files imported from Canon 60D when it does from my Olympus DSLR?

I'm afriad the fact that your Olympus dSLR is supported is no relevance.
The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Support for individual camera models has to be added one by one, and Apple will update the OS to work with the most recent version of the software. That's an incentive for you to keep up-to-date. So, for support for your 60D you'll need 10.6.5 plus Aperture 3 and/or iPhoto 11.

  • Trouble importing from Canon Elura 80

I´ve been having trouble when importing from my camcorder, a canon elura 80, iMovie recognizes it and controls it with no problem, but it doesn´t cut the clips automatically. At first, I didn´t care, I´m used to trimming video, and I can even say that I enjoy it. The problem with this comes when I want to apply themes to the movie: If I place the manually trimmed clip in the drop zone, it doesn´t take the trimming into account, it just plays the beggining of the untrimmed clip, so I end up with the same clip repeated over and over.
    What I´ve done:
    - I checked the importing preferences, and the "start a new clip at each scene break" is checked.
    - I trimmed using "split video clip at Playhead"
    - I also tried "crop" for editing
It´s frustrating not being able to use one of the coolest feature of this program, please help!!! thanks in advance

    Hello Samantha3232,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
Some video clips may not import into iMovie when using the Camera Import window
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4485
From the File menu, choose Import > Movies.
In the dialog that appears, select your camera from the sidebar.
Locate and select the video clips on your camera that you would like to import.
    Click the Import button.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

Running LR 5.6 on OSX 10.9.4.  Can't import from Canon 7D. Any ideas?

For future reference, if there is an error message, you should probably quote it in your original message on the subject.
"Could not be read" indicates that you do not have WRITE permission to the destination directory when you try to import, so change your permissions.
"not recognized" might indicate the camera card itself is corrupted or the card reader is failing ... or the problem might go away if you change your permissions.

  • Overly Huge Files when Importing from DVC tape to IMovie

When importing from my Canon ZR 600 60 minutes of tape equals 16.1 Gigs
I am looking for what I am doing wrong I have 10 hours of Disney I would like to turn into 5 dvd set not 15 dvd set. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Gregory
About 13-14 Gb per hour miniDV tape movie is as iMovie (QT) works. When
it is stored down to a DVD disk it will be converted into a working format for
DVD disks and that will mean that 1 hour will take up a DVD disk in max
quality and 2 hours in slightly less quality. iDVD doesn't care about how
many Gb Your movie takes up in iMovie or FinalCut JUST the amount of minutes
this includes the DVD menues that also need spaces.
55 min movie and 5 min for menues is OK in max qual.
    115 min + 5 for slightly less.
You also need to think about how much free space there is on Your hard disk.
After Your 115 min movie is ready to go to iDVD there should be about 20Gb
free space left or iDVD will run into problems.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How Can I Delete Originals I Don't Care to Keep When Importing From SD Card?

    Hi All,
Just installed LR3 thanks to Santa. Have been going thru the video tutorials as well as the Lightroom_3_Help PDF and Lightroom-GettingStarted_Lo PDF but I can't figure out how to simply delete files from the gitgo when importing from SD Card or from my HDD (files already moved to HDD but not yet culled or imported into LR3). I was hoping I could, in LIBRARY, just r/c on a file that is plainly not worth keeping and just delete it so I dont have to do it later. Seems like I could, this way, be able to concentrate more on the shots requiring editing.
Also, need suggestions as to how I should import my files using DNG, Copy, Move, or Add. First off, I am not a working pro but am an occasional serious amateur. I'm picky and I like things to look good the first time and I like options.  The pix already on my HDD are in the PICTURES folder; those imported from SD card get moved to that PICTURES folder. I have, in the past, moved the processed verssions to a different DESTINATION folder - now I still have the originals and I have processed copies to post and share.
I understand that LR3 does ND editing but I assume that if I only keep a DNG then any time I want a JPEG or PNG of a picture I have to open LR3 to make one. Since I only have been shooting a few hundred pix a year (though with my new D5000 this will change) I am not gonna load up my HDD any time soon. So, is there a way I can make a DNG file, keep the original RAW or JPEG file AND save a processed JPEG or PNG copy in my DESTINATION folder in one swell foop?
    Thanks in advance,
    Phil in San Diego

The LR Exchange site has three plug-ins that allow you to keep a "mirror" copy of your DNG/RAW images in JPG format for use by others without having to go into LR and generate them when needed.  The link is:

One of them should help you with this.

Have a look at your import setting specifically Store Files:
Make sure it is set to where you want the originals to go.
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - Don;t empty the system trash. The originals that you deleted from the Desktop are in there and are the only copies you have unless they are still in the camera.

  • When importing from a Word document placing the text in InDesign

When importing from a Word document placing the text in InDesign I can only see the text from the first page of the Word document. I have increased the number of pages in the Indesign document to more than what is in the Word document, still only text from the first page is shown. What am I doing wrong or did I not set a setting correctly?

When you want to auto flow text while placing, hold down the Shift key when clicking with the Place cursor on the first page. New pages will be generated and text will be auto flowed using the margins set up on the master page.

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.
