When importing from CD, iTunes only imports the first few seconds

Hi,
Does anyone know why when I import a CD into iTunes it only imports the first few seconds of the track rather than the whole track? How can I fix this?
Thanks
Jimmy

Jimmy, What happens when you rip the same CD with a different program on the same computer, such as Windows Media Player?

  • When importing WMV files, I only get the first few seconds of my movie.

I'm trying to do some color correction on a wedding video.  The video was captured using Windows movie capture software and saved as a WMV file.
The file is about 700MB and 50 minutes long.  When I import the file it the Project tab says the duration is only about 25 seconds.  When I preview it, still only 25 seconds will show up. It's doing this for every video of the wedding that I import.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

What version of AE and with what compression settings were they captured? Premature stream endings usually points to VBR encoding, which AE doesn't particularly like. The files from Movie Maker may also contain program-specific data such as edit markers, which also could be mis-interpreted by AE. Check such things and perhaps try differnt settings. Failing that, simply use VirtualDub and similar tools to convert to conventional AVIs or otehr suitable formats.

  • A song I bought only plays the first few seconds....

I bought an album & one of the songs only plays the first few seconds, backs up, & repeats that part over & over. I show no available downloads. This is very annoying when trying to enjoy an entire album that I love. Please help.

Update your iTunes to the latest 10.6.3 and see if it rectifies the issue.

BaconBits is right to ask if the files are protected or not.
DRM files can only be transferred using Windows Media Player, Creative MediaSource or Nano Media Explorer so that the licenses are transferred. Do not try drag'n'drop with Windows Explorer on porotected files. This is explained in the Help file manual on your CD.
Also do not use Audible Manager to transfer music files.

  • My CDs load into itunes but only play the first few second of each song.

When I try to play CDs from itunes only the first few seconds play. I can play CDs from windows media player. At one time I was able to play CDs from itunes.

This might be better answered over in the Importing & Burning in iTunes for Windows forums.

Run the iTunes Help menu > Run CD Diagnostics... command and post the results there.

  • ITunes is only playing the first few seconds of each song

    Hi,
I've searched high and low and cannot seem to find a resolution to my problem. When I'm listening to many of the songs in my library, iTunes will just stop playing and move to the next song after about 10-15 seconds. If I slide the progress bar at the top, the song plays from that point on for a few more seconds and skips. It seems that many people have had this trouble throughout the last few years, but in each of the instances where I've found someone talking about it, there is never a solution. The discussion just goes cold. I've tried checking the start/stop boxes for an affected song, but they won't stay checked. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

Yes this seems to have cropped up a few times recently without a definite solution.
Assuming that the files play Ok in another player and you have checked that the start stop boxes look OK in get Info, here a couple of things you could try.
    Rebuild your library:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
I would modify the method as follows, drag iTunes Library.itl to the desktop as well as iTunes Library.xml. Then you can put it back if this doesn't work.
Then try deleting your preference files, this causes iTunes to create new ones with default values so any custom preferences are lost.
First make hidden files visible in Folder Options>>View
    Delete iTunesPrefs.xml in:
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    And
    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

  • XMMS only plays the first few seconds of each... [solved]

    Hi
I have no clue where to start looking:
I have XMMS running and installed the xmms-cdparanoia package.
From within xmms, I can browse to /mnt/cd, where the content of my audio cd is displayed (nothing in /media or anywhere else). I add all the files to the play list, but when I try to play them from there, only a few seconds (1 to 6, depending on the track) gets played.
If I try to play the same track several times in succession, the part that get played is always the same length. If I try another track and come back to the previous one, it still gets played for the same length of time as before....
I can play mp3 from thye same drive, or saved to the hard drive without any problem.
Anyone got an idea of where I should start looking? A Wiki search didn't throw anything (that I could see), same for the forum....
    Thx
    Damien

jaboua wrote:Do you have more CD drives? The CD drive might be broken... Also, have you tried other CD players than XMMS? Does it happen with all CDs or can it be that you're using a scratched CD? And is it a MP3 CD, since audio CDs aren't mounted...
There is a CD drive and a DVD drive in that puter, though I can only plug one of them at a time. I get the same thing with both. Tried several CDs. They were all commercial audio CDs (ie, not copies), with no DRM. There are no visible scratch on them.
Also, the fact that I get the same issue in Xubuntu, seems to exonerate Xmms....
The fact that I can find the content of the CDs in /mnt/cd has more to do with the fact that this is where my fstab sets it to be (if I understand that process properly:
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    /dev/floppy/0 /mnt/fl vfat user,noauto 0 0
    /dev/sda /mnt/usb vfat noauto,user 0 0
    /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb vfat noauto,user,umask=0000 0 0
    /dev/hdc /mnt/cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0
    /dev/hdc /mnt/dvd udf ro,user,noauto,unhide 0 0

Noob here, so not 100% certain, but isn't DMA (that's the Direct Memory Access, that you are reffering to, right?) ennabled by default in the Arch stock kernel? If not, how is it ennabled?

  • My brand new 4th gen iPod only plays the first few seconds of my songs.

I have restored to factory settings 3xs and have updated iTunes. What can I do?

I've been having this same problem since I installed version 8.1 of iTunes. I have tried EVERYTHING to no avail, oh wait, things got worse. At first it was only songs I had downloaded since installing version 8 but now songs I rip from my CDs are skipping as well.
The only songs I have on my iPod are from iTunes or my own CDs.
I've tried the 5Rs more times than I can count now, I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime multiple times, I've recreated my iTunes library multiple times, I've tried setting Gapless to yes for all songs, I've tried setting Gapless to no for all songs, nothing worked.
I was beginning to think it was my iPod's hard drive but it's not. I have an older version of iTunes on my laptop (8.0.2.20) so I loaded the same songs that were skipping when sync'd from ver 8.1. They don't skip when sync'd from the older version of iTunes.
Either something is wrong w/ 8.1.1.10 and my 5g iPod and 2g Nano or something happened during the install and I haven't been able to completely wipe iTunes and Quicktime before reinstalling them.
ps: I forgot to add that the songs play fine in iTunes and when I play them from the iPod through iTunes.

  • Why is itunes only downloading the first, fifth and ninth songs from any CD?

Why is itunes only downloading the first, fifth and ninth songs from any CD?

Did you perhaps intentionally select just those three tracks to import from one CD a while back, and is iTunes now remembering that selection? Do you see checkboxes against the list of tracks on the CD? If not Go to Edit > Preferences > General, and check the box for Show list checkboxes. CTRL-Click an empty checkbox to check all of them in one go.
If that isn't the issue are you getting any error messages during the import? Will other software (WMP/MediaMonkey/CDEX etc.) rip the CD instead?

Hi, I'm pretty new to itunes. I bought a song and it downloaded, but will only play the first 3 seconds? Any idea how I get it to play the rest of the tune?

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).

If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.

  • I purchased a season of downtown abbey and it only downloaded the first 30 seconds of every episode.  How do,I co

I Purchased a season of downton abbey from iTunes on my iPad and it only downloaded the first 30 seconds of every episode..how do I correct this?

You are trying to watch them in the Videos app and not the previews in the iTunes store app ? If you are then depending upon what country that you are in (TV programmes can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting those episodes from the Videos app on your iPad and then redownload them via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download TV programmes or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via the Store > View Account menu option and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that series and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, about 24 hours).
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work (it's been taking some people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • I am have problems loading a cd onto i-tunes. No matter how many times I try to load a particular cd it will only load the first 9 seconds of each track. Can anyone help?

Can any one help? I have tried several times to import a particular cd onto i-tunes, but each time it will only load the first 9 seconds of each track.

If it was a recent purchase you could take it back to the store and return it as "not fit for purpose", then buy a digital version. If it is too late for that I suppose you could try contacting the record company but I doubt they care at this point since they have the money. Can't really go into any possible workarounds without breaching the TOU.
