    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide, remove adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac, and AdwareMedic. If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.) You might consider adding this Safari extensions: Adblock Plus 1.8.9.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

  • After latest update 20.0.1 when opening a new tab, close, minimize, maximize are not working. Also using arrow in online dropdown menu's are non-selectable.

After automatically updating to version 20.0.1 yesterday the buttons in the upper right corner minimize, maximize, close stop working when I open a new tab. When only one tab is open they do work. Also when downloading a file ( and again this opens a new pop-up window ) after clicking save file there is no response. The save file button looks as if it is pushed but there is no download going on.
I tried safe mode, didn't help.
I tried switching off all add-ons, didn't help.
    I tried reset, didn't help.
I even tried uninstalling and re-installing firefox, didn't help.
The only thing that works for a couple of seconds is when I go to options in the firefox menu, close the pop-up the buttons in the upper corner are active for a couple of seconds.

    Hello,
I kept searching a solution for this problem and I found that: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/956417
You just have to update the Add-on Firebug from 1.10.6 to the latest version 1.11.2. If it's not that Add-on try with another Add-on.

  • Why when I close a tab with CTRL + W the tab close but when I reinitializing Firefox the closed tab appear in the tab bar (or tab zone)

This happened when I have Faviconized my tabs. I`m not sure if will happen when I have my tabs with out using faviconized tab.

    Look at:
    * Tabberwocky: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/14439

  • When I click on a link, multiple(and by multiple, I mean a ton) blank tabs open. The only way to stop more blank tabs from opening is to close out of firefox completely. Do I have a virus or do I need to change my settings?

If I click on something to open in a new tab or click on someone's email to open Outlook, instead of doing that, a bunch of blank tabs open. I'm fine with a couple blank tabs, but they keep opening. The only way to stop the tabs from opening is to close out of firefox entirely. When I try to reopen firefox, blank tabs again begin to reopen. You can't close out of them fast enough because they keep opening. To stop opening the blank tabs, you must restart firefox a second time.
Is this a virus or something wrong with my firefox settings??

Firefox includes options of how to handle different content types, in your case the mailto links are probably set to "Use Firefox". For details of how to fix this see [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]], in particular the section "Change the action for a content type".

When I try to open a second page in safari I press the " +" button but it automatically closes out of safari.. What should I do?- thanks

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't fix it then try closing Safari via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open it :
iOS 7 :double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the Safari app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
iOS 6 and below : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option if the above doesn't fix it is a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I have graphical errors on the browser edges when i use the right click menu and close out tabs.

Ok I will try to explain this the best way I can as I'm not sure what to call it. But simply put, if I have FF4 open, sometimes I get a graphical glitch on the edge of the window. It seems to always occur when I right click near the edge of the browser window, then close out that current tab. A small part of the context menu remains on the screen. Here is a screenshot:
notice the section in the lower right hand part of the browser. That's the leftover context menu in the edge of the window. There is also a section on the bottom of the browser as well. I didn't plan on that one, and have no idea why it is there. I had no menu open there. Anyone every see this before?

You can also use ctrl-T or File > New tab (if you have the menubar showing). I can't find an extension that will help you bring back the previous behavior but there probably will be one soon.

You get logged out of Apple Support Communities when you close your Internet browser. You cannot modify this behaviour

  • Safari: Tabs disappear when dragging on the tab bar

When dragging tabs to re-arrange them all the tabs disappear, except the one you're dragging, which makes placing the dragged tab difficult. When you drop the dragged tab the others re-appear.
    Anyone else seeing this?

I'm having sort of the opposite thing happen.  When I grab a tab and drag it out of the window and drop it, it disappears.  The odd thing is, if I click on mission control I can see the missing safari window.  I can drag it to multiple desktops and work with it in mission control just like normal.  And if the page is playing any audio or video that will continue, but it just disappears. Only quitting safari and chooing close all windows with the option key does it go away.

  • My safari is not working. Every time i click on it says to reopen or dont reopen. i press reopen i gives me this long screen and it says reopen or press okay. when i press ok it closes the box and doesnt open. when i press reopen the long screen stay

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Unable to close Safari pages. Have to hold power button to close out.

This has happend 3 times now within the last week or so. Everytime it has happend, I was on "Myspace" and had other pages open. The red close button and the Home button are faded when this occours. The only way to close out is to hold the power button until it shuts off. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Welcome to Discusssions - have you tried to Force quit Safari? Either go to the blue apple in the menu bar and scroll down till you reach force quit and select Safari, or go to the Safari icon in the dock, click on it and select force quit.
Once you have done that, you might want to empty the Safari caches and delete the history. You should also go to User>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Safari.plist and drag it to the trash.
Please let us know how you made out,
    Miriam

  • When opening a new tab in Safari...

Is there a way to keep Safari from opening up my recent searches window every time I make a new tab in Safari?
I find it annoying that it always pops down And gets in the way of the bookmarks bar etc.

Clearing Safari's history : Settings > Safari > Clear History
Then close Safari completely and when you re-open it your search history should have gone (though focus will still default to the search box). To close Safari : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

  • When I close out and try to come back on I am told that Firefox is still running, close it out. How can I close it out again...

When I am on the computer, and close out, sometimes I need to get back on. When I try to do so, I am told that Firefox is already running, close it out or restart. This is not right, and it should not be. Why can't I get back on line?

Sounds like it is hanging when you exit and later try to restart Firefox. Generally, the cause is an Extension or a Plugin.
