When in sleep mode....icons are moved

I have set up screen saver and sleep mode.
When it gets to sleep mode...it begins to beep, beep, beep.
When I move the mouse to take it out of sleep mode...ALL the icons on my desktop have been moved around.  I thought that maybe it was something I did...so, I made sure to remove the "align to grid" option for the icons and put them back where I wanted them.
The next time my computer went to sleep...beep, beep, beep again and when I moved the mouse to take it out of sleep mode...the icons were moved AGAIN!!!
What is going on and how can I fix it.  It is very annoying.
Thanks
Pam

  • When in sleep mode iPhone 4 loses signal but when it's back on it searches and finds signal only recently doing this and because it's searching for signal battery not lasting very long please help

When in sleep mode iPhone 4 loses signal but as soon as its on again it searches and finds signal easily but because of this not getting calls or text msges and because it's searching for signal all the time battery not lasting

Here are some observations and a suggestion.
    1)  I mentioned before, that the number of views of this discussion forum is fast approaching 100,000.  I suppose relative to all iPhones sold that is not a great percentage, but 100,000 still sounds pretty impressive to me.  Consider also that many people probably have this same Sim problem and are not viewing this discussion forum because thay do not know it exists.  How many people are REALLY experiencing this problem?  Who knows.  But I suspect it is more that 100,000.
    2)  To the best of my knowledge, Apple does not consult these forums as a guide to awareness of product performance.  It may be company policy, but most of the time when I speak to an Apple employee they seem remarkably unaware of the "Top Stories" in the Apple Discussion Forum.  This, despite the fact that my personal experience with customer service at Apple is excellent.  So, as much as we of this discussion forum are confident SOMEONE important at Apple is reading all our posts and taking them to heart...I am not so sure.
    3)  I have been told over and over that the best way to gain Apple's attention regarding a problem is to post a comment on their Feedback Site.  One comment about a problem is pretty worthless.  100,000 comments on the same issue, I'm guessing, will really get their attention.
    4)  Some folks have mentioned a recall to address this problem.  Although such a thing is always a possibility, I don't see it happening.  Why?  When the brakes on a Toyota don't work, or that Toyata starts to accelerate without driver intention...well, that involves human life and the stakes are quite high.  For many reasons you would see the automotive industry eventually be forced into a recall program under such a situation.  But, a phone APPEARS to not nearly be such a life and death device.  Or is it?  My daughter's iPhone 4S developed a "SIM FAILURE" on the same day her car broke down in the middle of the very rural area we live at around 10:00 pm.  She is 17 years old and was coming home from high school play practice.  You can imagine the anxiety I and her mother felt when she did not arrive home on time.  She eventually walked about a quarter mile to a house of a stranger and had to ask to use their phone to call us.  Now, I am not saying that strangers where I live are not to be trusted.  But, in addition to being worried out of my mind, I was not happy that an inoperative iPhone 4S caused my daughter to be put in this situation.  My biggest concern now is...when will my daughter's iPhone become inoperative again due to SIM FAILURE?
    5)  The more folks in this discussion forum who post a comment about this issue in Apple's feedback site the more pressing this issue is going to be perceived by Apple.  So, I like others, encourage all of you to do so.  If this seems like a lot of effort, I offer you these few sentences below that you could just copy and paste into the feedback site.
The link to feedback site is:  http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Feel free to use copy/amend/whatever the following as you wish:
    Dear Apple,
I wish to register a strong concern about my iPhone's unpredictable inoperability due to failures somehow associated with it's SIM technology.  For me, I do not consider this just a significant lack of convenience, but a significant safety issue.  Should I need my phone in an emergency situation where it is experiencing  a SIM FAILURE, I believe the iPhone will have put me at risk.  I would ask you to please give fixing this problem your greatest priority and effort.
    Sincerely, XXXX

  • How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode?

How do you prevent the computer from shutting down when in sleep mode and plugged in?

    Thanks tjk.
Those are great suggestions and got me looking in places I had not considered before. Unfortunately, the problem remains. The System Preferences did not have the shut down option activated and there are no parental controls active on the computer.
    Any other suggestions are welcome.

  • QOSMIO x870 shutting down when in sleep mode

I'm not sure if this is working as intended or not.
I was working with the ECO setting to put my computer to sleep after certain amount of time. Once it was asleep for a certain amount of time, it would go into a shutdown/hibernation mode. It turns back on in the state that it was in when it went to sleep.
Also, if I have a program running and lock the computer, it will act like this as well when there is sleep time set.
I thought that I would be able to lock my computer and run a download over-night, but when I went to my computer in the morning, my computer was shutdown/hibernating. It came back up to where it was, but it appears that it hadn't continued the download for much over an hour before shutting down.
I don't think that this is intended, but I may be wrong.
I'm still digging around trying to find settings in regards to this. But I have hibernate turned completely off.
Is there some way to set the computer so that it won't shutdown/hibernate when in sleep mode and/or a locked screen?
In the meantime, I'm trying setting the ECO settings to "Sleep :: Never" to try to accomplish my download without the computer shutting down/hibernating during the process.

    Thanks tjk.

  • Mac book air mid 2013, warms to approx 65 degrees when in sleep mode for 2 to 3 hrs?

    Hello,
I have recently noticed that my macbook air mid 2013 warms up to approx 65 degs when in sleep mode for 2 hours or when I am doing my normal work. I am running Mevricks and I also use a moshi key board cover. Is it a cause of concern??

The keys without covers already transfer to a small degree finger oil to the LCD screen of the Air, even the thinnest keyboard covers place pressure on the LCD, however normally this would have no bearing unless stowed away in a pack with pressure, nevertheless causing dirt and oils is increased with covers to transfer more to the LCD, ....Macbook Air as well.
Beware of keyboard covers and using same
Beware of using thick keyboard covers on your Macbook, some pretty ones sold online are rather thick and upon closing your monitor, touch the screen and transfer more finger/hand oil to the LCD but at worst press excessively on the LCD display, especially in the case of the Air and newest Macbook Pro Retina. There is ultimately very little purposeful use of these keyboard covers if you keep your hands clean, additionally they do not protect against spills as many people presume they do; directly yes, but at the edges no. They also making typing a more challenging experience and run a fine line between 'serves no purpose' and 'possibly damaging'.
Screen covers protect against nothing and place an unwanted layer between the LCD and viewing, additionally if you dont touch same or dont have any pets that might claw at the screen there is no logical reason to have a screen shield.
dust will accumulate regardless.    Realistically what are you trying to protect the screen from.  The back is solid aluminum alloy, the front LCD viewing screen should never be intentionally touched.
outside of a sneeze or some debris which an extremely lightly damp cloth can remove, all else is dust. ...
Use a soft paintbrush or makeup brush for cleaning
One very useful tool for cleaning dust from the LCD screen, the hinge area of your notebook and around the keyboard, is a very soft inexpensive small paintbrush or a makeup brush. The less you wipe your LCD screen with anything like a cloth, the better. This small brush is very handy, quick, and ideal for removing dust from around and on your notebook.

    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/18931/os-x-lion-fix-for-wireless-not-reconnecting -when-exiting-sleep-mode/

I have the same symptoms with a 2011 iMac and my Senheiser Bluetooth headphones.
10.7.3 did not correct this bug.
I'm also using MS Messenger and notification sounds are also buffered until the headphones are switched on.
I found other threads dealing with this bug :

Battery problem, anntena or motherboard? pleas help.

it could be a motherboard problem. Last month I spilled liquid on to my iphone and since I didn't have warranty for it I had to take it to a "phone doctor". He fixed it but mentioned that motherboard is working fine but he can not say for sure for how long it will last, and that I may experience some wierd problems. I'm having this exact problem the day I got my iphone back.
Well no longer but the solution still seems wierd. I turned on the "location services" because I saw in the "system services" screen that "cell network search" was turned on. I figured if I don't screw with location services, it would be okay. So, after three hours, I terminated the sleep in 10-20-30 minutes and 1 hour intervals, it seems I no longer have the problem but I'm going to sleep over it to be sure. Also make sure to turn on the "auto" option on the "carrier" menu.
I will post the outcome if I don't forget about this page.

  • Network disconnect when in sleep mode

    Hi all.
Since I've installed Mountain Lion, any time the computer goes into sleep mode, networking do the same: I cannot download files, when the computer wakeup I have to wait the reconnection before being able to use mail, safari or ather network stuff.
I did not find any option to set, telling the computer waht to do when in sleep mode.
WIth Lion and preceding OsX this was not an issue.
Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks.
    Federico.

    Hi,
Yes, clear "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" in the properties of network adapter\Power management as mentioned in the link provided by arnavsharma, and check if the issue persists.

  • Strange noises when in sleep mode???

    Hello,
Have had my brand new 27 inch iMac for about 3 weeks now. This is my first Mac computer. When in sleep mode the iMac sounds like it wants to start up and then there is a clicking sound. Just wondering if this is normal. . .or, should I shut the computer down?
    Thanks.

To me any clicking sound is not normal unless on a Mouse or Trackpad.  Do not delay to have it investigated, take a look at Apple returns and refunds from here....  http://store.apple.com/uk/help/returns_refund

  • Phone not ringing when in sleep mode

Over last few days have had problem with iPhone 4S not ringing when in sleep mode. I have just spoken to Apple support. I had do not disturb scheduled , but this was staying on all the time , which I hadn't realised. This is a fault which should be sorted by 7th Jan. hope this helps anyone else with same problem, as I did search this site first.

This is the exact problem i'm having right now, I don't know why it's happening, but when i have it on the desk and when it's in sleep mode, I can get phonecalls and it won't ring but it won't show up as missed calls either, if i get a voice message i'll get it if i take it out of sleep mode and let it sit with full reception for a minute.
I also lose all reception while in sleep mode.

  • Dropping signal when in sleep mode

    Hey all,
Been using the airport extreme for years now. All of a sudden we're getting dropped when waking up from sleep mode.
-The bars still but there is no connection.
-This happens when we're in sleep mode.
-We have to "turn off" and "turn on" the connection and then everything works.
-We have an emac, imac, and a ibook. We have to do the same steps for all of them.
-Also, about once every 3-4 months the airport completely drops out (grayed out bars at top) and we have to reset it (power down and up) to get it to work.
    Any ideas??
    THanks,
    -Dooki

I have been having the same problem ever since I got my new iMac in December. Been on the phone with tech support about 6 times. I think my problem is related to interference within my house. I have tried everything and just today moved my computer to a room very near the Airport Extreme base station. So far all works perfectly. I didn't have this problem with the linksys router I was using with my PC before getting the Mac (802.11g). I have a 5 GHz wireless phone system in the house and maybe that has something to do with it. My problem only occurs after a "long sleep," so I'll have to check things out tomorrow, but getting the computer near the base station seems to have made a difference.

  • Macbook not starting when in sleep mode

So my white 13 inch macbook was in sleep mode for a couple hours and usually I just press either the enter/return button or the power/startup button to wake the computer but for the past two times, it wasn't starting up unless I held the power/startup button until it completely turned off. I then had to completely restart the computer. And that was the only way I could get it to turn on. In the past, like I said, everything worked fine when I hit the enter or power button. Has this happened to anybody else's macbooks? I guess from now on I'll pretty much always have to shutdown the mac completely when not using it.

    HI,
*"Will it wipe the hard drive? Will I lose files? What will change exactly*
If you read the material at those links it explains everything. It's very simple. It won't wipe the drive or lose files.
SMC: "As the name implies, it is responsible for power management of the computer. It controls backlighting, hard disk spin down, sleep and wake, some charging aspects, trackpad control, and some input/output as it relates to the computer sleeping."
These are just simple trouble shooting techniques for sleep mode issues.

  • Restart when in sleep mode

    Hi,
I have energy saving enabled on my Mac and it goes to sleep after 15 mins inactivity. However, I noticed that while the system is on sleep, it restarts all by itself. I am confused as to how it can happen. I have not scheduled any wake up/shutdown times. Did anyone have a similar problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Thanks a lot for the information. I looked into the log file and observed the following. Usually, the system goes to 'safe sleep' and after 7-8 mins it enters 'sleep'. When the unexpected restart occurred, system did not go into the sleep mode at all. Here is the log file at the time restart occurred. I do not know how to debug it further. Please help me and let me understand what the problem was.

  • Loss of Signal when in sleep mode

I have an iphone 3g and the problem I am having is the phone when put into sleep mode sometimes doesn't receive messages or calls. When I go to unlock the phone it is sluggish to unlock and then can take up to 15 or 20 seconds acquire signal. At that time I receive all the texts and voice mails of people that missed there calls while the phone was asleep.
Apple has replaced my phone, I have done a restore from back up and set up as new. I have kept off music and apps. It does it in edge or 3g.
HELP!!!!! Apple says no one else is having this problem but I cant believe that.
