When inserting a disc to rip, it ejects w/o a command

after installing updated drivers, any blank discs inserted eject automatically without ripping.
how can this be fixed? Do I have to use System Restore to an earlier point in time?
the therapeutic dose isn't the same for everyone

my machine went to Applecare's service facility in TX and there it lies in wait of an optical drive on backorder.

  • Error when inserting install disc

Hi,  When inserting a retail OS X Tiger disc into my G5 Tower to do an archive and install, when the computer boots of the CD, I get a Kernal Panic and cannot continue?
I have run permissions, and disk verify and all OK, also have completed 'memtest' and all ok there too.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

When you try to boot from the disc, are you depressing the C key at startup? Or depressing the Option key at startup to activate the Startup Manager screen & then selecting the install disc? Whichever method you are using, try the other method.
KPs are usually caused by a hardware problem - USB, Firewire or RAM. Disconnect all external devices. If you have the Apple Hardware Test app on the discs that came with your Mac, run the AHT.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

  • What is the Keyboard shortcut to stop autoplay when inserting DVD

I've looked but can't find the keyboard shortcut to stop a cd/dvd from autoplaying when inserted. Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Adan
I don't know about a keyboard shortcut, but if it is the default behaviour of the system you want to change when inserting a disc you can change it in System Preferences > CDs & DVDs.

  • Inserting a disc question

Just curious, I just got my new MBP a few days ago and its my first Mac. Is it normal when inserting a disc into the superdrive that you almost have to push it in all the way until it takes it? (I'm kind of used to my car's slot load CD player that ***** in the disc when its about an inch or two in the slot) Also, when it takes the disk the keyboard lights dim or flicker a little bit when the disc sounds like it sets into place in the drive, is that a normal thing?

    fl_avi8or,
Having to insert the disk almost all the way is normal behavior. Having the screen "flicker" might be a different story. Are you sure that it is not getting brighter when a disk is inserted? This would be totally normal, if the display had already dimmed from disuse for a period of time (which the Macbook Pro display does normally). When activity resumes, such as when a new volume is mounted (and an inserted disk would count as a new volume), the screen returns to full brightness.

  • HT1338 my dvd player ejects disc when inserted

my dvd player ejects disc when inserted on my macbook pro running on 10.8.4 OS X

Sounds like it could be a problem with your DVD drive. Usually it would be a problem with the lens. Since as far as I can tell it is ejecting discs right away, the usual fix of a cleaning disc is not possible.
If it is a slot loader like the offical Apple SuperDrive, you may be able to try a crude clean with the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit, although designed for the Nintendo Wii, it should work to a degree with other slot loaders.
Due to the design of the cleaner, it should remain in the drive until it is time to remove it. Though usually a dirty lens will still read some discs.
However, if the lens is sufficiently clean then the only other possibilities are a calibration problem or a hardware failure.
Certain lower quality drives can deviate from optimal calibration of the read laser over time, though with some drives it is possible to fix this, the fix has the potential to do more harm than good.
If it's a hardware failure, whether it can be fixed depends upon the type of fault, but new external drives are cheaper than most repair costs these days.
I'm not 100% familar with how OS X handles Disc drives, so I can't rule out the possibility of a software issue.

  • ITunes stalls when inserting/ejecting CDs

Whenever I insert a CD to rip (just about any CD), the iTunes interface locks up (if I'm listening to music, it continues to play, but the iTunes screen becomes unresponsive). Eventually (2-3 minutes later, sometimes more, sometimes less) the window frees up and prompts me if I want to import the CD. I click yes, and the import runs normally, and everything is fine. I can play the CD, look at the tracks that were ripped, go to the iTunes Store... anything, and all's well. Then I hit the Eject button next to the CD, the CD ejects almost immediately, and then once again, iTunes freezes for several minutes. Eventually it frees up and all's well again.
Anyone have any idea what's going on? This is a somewhat recent occurance -- I've been using iTunes for a couple of years now, first on XP, then on Vista, and now on Windows 7. iTunes has pretty much behaved for the most part (with the occasional quirks, of course) but lately it's been making CD ripping a pain. Any ideas??
    History:
o I have changed nothing on my PC recently except for the monthly Windows security patches (set to Auto).
    o I'm running Windows 7 (32-bit), 4G of RAM, Intel Core2Duo 1.87GHz
o My OS is running off of an 80GB Intel SSD drive. My iTunes library is on a Drobo (external NAS-like hard drive). Everything else runs fine off of this storage (I have videos on there as well, and as I said earlier, music plays fine off of it)
o I have a very fast internet connection (Verizon FiOS 25 down/15 up)
o I recently updated to iTunes 10.2.1.1 (but it was exhibiting this behavior prior to the upgrade as well -- note: I always update to the latest version when Apple Software Update prompts me to).
o Everything else on my PC runs perfectly - iTunes is the only program acting funky right now

I found that launching iPhoto hangs my system for an unacceptably long period of time. The default behavior now is to launch iPhoto automatically upon docking an iPhone, so maybe this is the real source of your beachball problem? Try using the Image Capture application--part of the default OS X installation--to disable automatic launching of iPhoto on iPhone dock. To do this, change Automatic Task to "None".

  • Insert blank disc...when one is already in?

After sucessfully burning a disc. Then attempting to burn another iTunes says to "insert a blank disc". Ejecting the blank disc I have already put in the PC. Then inserting another fresh disc it says "checking media", then nothing happens. I click burn disc againg and it ejects the disc saying again "insert blank disc". AAARRG! Please help! The only solution I have found is to reboot the PC....every time!!
    Thanks for any help,
    Kelly

i made a burn folder that has files lower then the
    700MB max, and then I insert a blank CD-R and then I
click the burn button in the folder and it says that
I need to insert a blank disc, when one is already in
there. I've tried my whole spindle of CDs, a
different kind of brand of CD, and a CD-RW. I had
already burned 2 before, but I don't understand why
it isn't working anymore. Can anyone help?
Try clicking the burn button first then insert the CD when prompted. OSX should then verify the CD and if it's good start writing your data. I've had the same problem with itunes and found it ofter fails if I put the CD in first so now I always wait till prompted to insert the CD. When I wait till prompted it always works.

Videos I burnt to disc on my pc won't play on my macbook, when I insert the disc into the macbook it says it's blank but plays fine on the pc, does anyone know how to fix this?  The photo's I burnt on the exact same type of disc work fine in both pc and macbook but the videos will only play on the pc.

If you are trying to play these on quicktime then what video format are those videos?
Wmp's?  You need to install Flip4Mac.
    Most other formats?  Install Perian.
Or just use vlc instead.  It's a much better, more powerful, and more general video player.

  • I keep trying to download my photos to my MacBook Pro, when I insert my disc I get this response: You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore. Anyone know how to fix this?

I have been trying to download photo's from a CD onto my MacBook pro but when I insert the disc I get this box that pops up onto my screen:  You inserted a blank CD. Choose an action from the pop-up menu or click Ignore. Is there a way to fix this so I can use my photo's?

Bummer. Could be a problem with the MBP drive. Are you using Re-writable discs maybe?
Check the discs work in your HP machine. They may have burnt but not successfully. Your HP machine may not be able to open them either.
Have you considered using a USB flash device to transfer the photos, or just copy them over your home network? CD is a slow an cumbersome method.

All I can do is look at the folders and files and see nothing that tells me how to start the installation. Clicking "open with Auto play" gives me irrelevant options, view photos, share, etc. I'm running Windows 8. This program has worked, although buggy, for the past year.

  • I just upgraded OS from 10.4.1 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Now when I tried to open Reason 4 it asks for me to insert a disc and prompts me to enter my ID for permission. What can I do?

I just upgraded OS from 10.4.1 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Now when I tried to open Reason 4 it asks for me to insert a disc and prompts me to enter my ID for permission. What can I do?

First off, you can't have upgraded from 10.4.1, as that won't run on a MacBook. 10.4.4 is minimum.  10.4.10, and 10.4.11 are different from 10.4.1.
Secondly, it appears Reason 4.0.1 is needed for 10.6:

There may be other upgrades on:

Check with the developers in question if they are aware of any bugs in the upgrade process.
