even via time machine the new osx lion has deleted all my latest files in iPhoto and will only revert back to an old 2009 backup?... Help?!

Have you verified that the original files are missing from the Originals/Masters folder?  There are time when the library might appear empty due to a damaged database file but still has the files.  If you can open the library package via the Finder to see if the files are really missing or just can't be seen by iPhoto there are fixes you can try.
If the files are there make a temporary, backup copy of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Lost ALL pref's, doc settings, iphoto photos... as tho I launched from day1

    Greetings,
While my G5 was in sleep mode, somehow it logged me out. When I logged back in, the generic/original screen pic appeared, an open (raised) doc void of all the icons I put in it, all email (both .mac and AOL)--even the trash was emptied! I MAY have moved my 'home' directory but thought I put it back into the Users folder (there's a folder for deleted users, with a same 'home' name, which out of confusion I may've inadvertantly switched--and then tried to switch back). I booted Utils from orig. CD and ran diag's but nothing was in need of repair. This happened out of the blue--recently I've been desperately trying to move essential settings (plists?) and old mail from one computer to another (as I need to sell one and want to synch all data before I erase the HD on the G5 I'm going to sell--IF--I can ever get back to where I was before I lost all my pref's. Even my desktop files are gone (but are in a library under the old user name). ANY way I can get things back AND consolidate all my mail, photos etc so I can have one up-to-date system? For years now I've had nothing but praise for OSX as it always works flawlessly, but, as 'Murphy' as it, when I screw things up, I do it in a way that's beyond comprehension! I can't even log into my AOL email as AOL's prompting me to set up the whole program as though I never used it... ANY help will be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Hi Mike,
Thanks for the speedy reply. I followed the steps outlined in 106854 (saw the two but mistakingly presumed they were dupes of each other). After "enabling the root user" in the Security menu in Netinfo Mgr, which didn't work, I then realized I missed reading 107854 which speaks to OSX 10.3 or later.
In reading 107854 I don't see a substitute/temp user name in the /user folder, but in all my looking previously I believe I DID see a folder that contained info prior to my screwing things up (I think what I did originally was accidentally drag my user/short name (home?) out of the window, which went 'poof'... I put the system to sleep in order to get some other household things done, and I'd set things up to log me off at a certain point--which it did... when I went to log back in it was as though the Mac came fresh out of the box with all the generic presets like an open dock (missing everything I'd added over time) and an empty desktop (which had numerous folders), empty iPhoto, and even empty trash. It was shortly afterwards I had seen a sub-file/folder that was entitled 'desktop' which had what used to be present on the desktop prior to my God-awful error.
I live in an area where there are zero Mac stores/repair shops but luckily had a number of someone who was trying to set up a shop a couple years ago--I called and his wife said they've got things in full swing now, and even make house calls. After talking to this guy (he's too busy to come tomy home) we figured I'd bring in the Tower to his shop to see if he can get things back to where they were--probably best before I add ANY further 'layers' of screwups, making things even worse.
I really appreciate your getting back to me so quickly, and I'd started this response last night but didn't send it off until I reread the other links in your kind response! Things like this always seem to happen when you need your system the most--and I'm trying to get all the data moved over to my old 733 Quicksilver so I can sell the Dual 2.7 along with a 30" HD display before it loses any further value on the market. Heck, I'm about to look into a Mini in order to have something both new and affordable and not have to switch files around, especially with having the old 733 as my only primary system; I have boatloads of costly stuff I desperately need to dump onto eBay, and the sooner the better (I'm one of those who've been caught up in that 'real estate bubble' and need to drastically rearrange my financial picture--all while on a fixed, early retirement; add all that up, and it spells 'stress' in caps!
Thanks again Mike. Even tho it's costly going the route of having a pro-tech type straighten things out I figure I may be miles ahead, plus, hopefully haven't lost any data.
    BEST Regards!

  • Mountain lion crash when opening logic photobooth and lost all my music in itunes.

Why are apple apps crashing in Mountain Lion. Logic, Photobooth, iphoto and lost all my music in Itunes?

you might need to reinstall ML from the Recovery Partition.
To get to the recovery partition restart your computer,  hold CMD+R down when you hear the boot up chime. Open Disk Utility first (verify your boot disk and repair if needed) and then close it and reinstall ML.

  • Trouble with fonts and updated to MT LION now lost all my data on ical.

After installing Mt LION I lost all my ical data.  How do I recover lost data on time machine ..

For iPhone, digital camera, etc, you always do a backup for situation like this, your iPhone or digital camera are not backup devices.
If you do have a backup, you can restore from that backup. If you don't it is gone.

My husband went to update his phone this morning and when he did he lost all his contacts how can he get them back

Thanks, but I checked iCloud and it has none of them.
If it backed up to my laptop, that died and I just got the new computer. The one that's crashed won't even boot, so there's no way to even tell if it was syncing the contacts along with all the phone photos. Literally happened at the same time - it was because I had the new computer that I was finally able to pull the photos off the phone and make room for the upgrade. It had refused to upgrade for lack of space for some time.
I had thought it was set to sync to iCloud but it vanished from BOTH my phone and the cloud. That's why I'm so angry about it.

If they are still on your Mac's drive then you should be able to add them back into iTunes via File > Add To Library

  • Just installed Lion.  MNow my Microsoft Office suite won't work  What's wrong

I just installed Lion.  Now my Microsoft Office Suite won't work.  What's wrong ??

If you had used the search box in the upper right of this page you could have answered this question on your own.
You have a few options: restore back to Snow Leopard from the backup you made before you installed Lion; upgrade to Office for Mac 2011; install Pages from the Mac App Store; use TextEdit; install one of the many open source Office replacements that can found.

  • I lost all my Photo's in IPHOTO

    Hello,
I lost all my Photo's in IPHOTO today
I will try to outline what I have done. Some months ago I took old photograph-files of my windows computer by means of an external hard disk. Afterwards I had the following experience: each time that I started Iphoto I received a note "13 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that were not imported." Then it tells me "The photos have been placed in a folder. The folder is stored in my file/images/library/no..... it counts up every day. Today it reached no. 56. I tried to throw away all that garbage. By means of finder I have gone to the images/library and saw those 56 items listed there. I wanted them all thrown away at the same time. I have slid them then all 56 in each other, then you hear a sound of 'plik' every time and when done I dragged to the dustbin. As I returned to Iphoto, everything was empty 244 folders with over 28,000 photo' s. The files are all grey. If I select a photo then I get a light grey screen with !-sign. What remaine are the file-names and the numbering of the 28,000 photo's. So I have 28,000 grey screens but without the photo's that correspond with them.
I tried to import Photo's with the Iphoto- archive-import button from the library in finder. But there were only the 56 files with the 13 photo's that could'nt be opened every time I started Iphoto.
I already tried to restore it by finder, but the photo's are not listed there.
I'am desperate. I hope that someone can help me.

FileSalvage will only find image files. You won't be able to recover your library as it was previously.
The Originals folder will be inside the iPhoto Library package. You can open the package like this. Look inside the Originals folder and it's subfolders for your image files. If they are not there then continue with FileSalvage. If you find that your image files are still inside their subfolders you can partially recreate your library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
In the future NEVER go inside the iPhoto LIbrary package from the finder and consider using the tip at the end of my signature below.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Lost all my music in itunes after computer crash

Lost all my music in itunes when computer crashed.  itune store doesn't show all my purchases.  How do I get all my music back?

Browse your iTunes folder.  Do you have files in folder in your media folder?  In other words, did you really lose the media or did iTunes just lose track of it?
Of course you have a backup you make of your computer before doing any major updates, right?

  • Lost all of my data on iphone and have no cloud back up how can i get my data back

lost all of my data on iphone and have no cloud back up how can i get my data back

iOS devices do backup automatically to iCloud providing:
    iCloud Backup is turned on
    It has a Wi-Fi connection
It is connected to a power source
    The screen is off
5GB is plenty of storage for me to backup to iCloud automatically.
I have a 64GB iPhone & a 128GB iPad both backing up to the same iCloud account and I still have nearly 2GB free.
This is mainly because media is not backed up and Photo Stream & iTunes purchases do not count against your iCloud storage.
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchase history for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksYour iCloud backup includes information about the content you have purchased, but not the purchased content itself. When you restore from an iCloud backup, your purchased content is automatically downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store. Some types of content aren’t downloaded automatically in all countries, and previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer available in the store. Ive just updated my iPhone4 to the IOS5 software and i have lost all my apps? why? and how can i get them back?

When an iPhone updates, it wipes the whole device clean and then reinstalls the software and then the backup. Obviously you didn't create/couldn't create a backup either via iCloud or iTunes. You can get your apps back when you go to App Store>Updates>Purchased and download the apps you want.
