Initially iTunes would not run although it had been running quite well up until now. Suddenly received this error on PC start-up "The program can't start because MSVC80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." Research on Net pointed me to iTunes as the issue. Tried to start iTunes and received that message again. Tried installing latest version of 64-bit iTunes and received the subject message part way through the install: Trying to install latest iTunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Keep getting this error message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
iTunes has been running great on this PC for years. What's up?

Hey craiglarkin,
First, I would try following along with the steps in this link:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
If you end up having to remove and reinstall iTunes and AMDS, make sure to follow the steps closely, including the order in which you uninstall.

I am the only user for my computer, and consequently the administrator. If I go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and try to manually start the service, I immediately get the following error message: "Windows could not start the Apple Mobile Device service on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." I have tried following the steps advised by others online who also have received this message, but to no avail.
On the Apple error message, I have three options: Abort, Retry, or Ignore. Abort, obviously, causes the installation process to cease. Retry brings up the same message again. Ignore causes the installation to finish, but then I receive this message: "iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)."Go into Programs and Features
Uninstall:
iTunes
Bonjour*
Apple Software Update
Apple Application Support
Quicktime*
iCloud*
Apple Mobile Device Support
* I didn't have to uninstall Bonjour, iCloud or Quicktime to fix my issue but it won't hurt anything to uninstall them.
Reboot. Download a fresh copy of iTunes. Right click on the exe file and select Run as Administrator if you have the option if not just Run it. Should fix the issue. -
The latest version of iTunes did not install properly on my Windows 7-64bit PC. I am getting the following error message: "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
I have tried the following troubleshooting steps without success:
Restart PC
Uninstall iTunes and attempt to reinstall
Verify that I am signed in as an administrator
Download and save iTunes64Setup file, right-click, and run as Administrator
Disable Norton antivirus software
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!Hi Iss9243,

When attempting to reinstall iTunes, I get the following message "Service (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services" Any help appreciated
Hi emelville,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. You may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service. This article has instructions that may help:
How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1567
If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend trying a thorough uninstall and reinstall of iTunes as described here:

I'm trying to re-install I-Tunes on my Windows 7 computer. I get the following error message: Service "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. HELP?
Did you try to update iTunes through "Apple Software Update"?
Uninstall everything {iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour , Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)}
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
then reinstall itunes. (Download it from Apple's site.) -
I was prompted to update itunes this evening. I did and in the process, it came up with the following error message: Service "apple mobile device" (apple mobile device) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priviledges to start system services. I unistalled itunes completly and reinstalled but am still getting the same error message. If I click "ignore" the program will finish downloading but will not launch due to "not being installed correctly". Please help, I use this program alot with my first grade classroom and they're expecting their listening center in the morning.
Hey I finally got an older vesion of itunes to work!!! 10.7 x64 for windows 7
After uninstalling all apple products even quicktime
I had to delete everything from (program files, and program files x64, program data,)
And all downloads from apple, and I went in to search deleted other stuff from apple, and itunes
But definently not my itunes library and Playlist
Down loaded 10.7 x64 for windows 7, but checked (do not start when done)
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
I ran geek tech tool box same as reg cure pro, also PC Tools registry cleaner, and CC Cleaner
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
And wallah... It finally works, and I Love the older version anyways.

I have tried to install a new update of itunes and keep getting the same message:Service "apple mobile device"(apple mobile device)failed to start verify that you have sufficient privilages to start system services) also it has abort retry and ignore as choices below i have tried completley uninstalling itunes but not icloud and keep getting this message anyone know what this is or how i can fix it
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

While downloading the newest iTunes update I received several errors. The latest one being this: "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." These are the steps that I have already taken: un install iTunes (several times), reinstall iTunes (several times), move the .dil files to my desktop (although I have no idea what to do with them now)... I am still getting the same error while trying to download 1. the service error and 2. iTunes failing to open because it isn't properly installed. Can some one PLEASE be so kind as to help me with VERY simple step by step directions. I'm usually more computer savvy than the average user, but I'm feeling computer illiterate at the moment. I've been trying to work though this for 2 days now... sigh. Thank you in advance!
