When is or will there be a SQL Server 2012 R1 SP2 release date?

SQL Server 2012 SP 1 was released over a year ago on 11/8/2012. When is the next service pack going to be available?  I see announcements for SQL Server 2014 CTP's, but what about fixing 2012?
SQL Server is now up to CU5. I had a small hand in CU5 after reporting issues with CU4.  One of the fixes found in CU4 broke SSRS multi-value reports, oddly enough.  CU5 continues to have 'unexpected errors' but SSRS is
fixed.  Where CU's clearly stated to have limited testing and no guarantee to work in all environments, it is essential these cummulative updates are packaged in a hardened Service Pack.
Is there no SP2 release date in sight?

Hello,
I have never seen Microsoft releasing a service pack of SQL Server on January. I think you should
expect the next SQL Server 2012 service pack between February and April.
Customers should expect SQL Server service packs every 12-15 months except for the first service
pack of each new version. The first service pack of each new version comes usually 9 months after RTM has been released.
Hope this helps.

  • SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server

    Hi,
    I would like to implement System Center 2012 R2 Operation Manager, VMM and Configuration Manager.
    I have proposed to my customer two MSSQL Server 2012 Box, one for SCOM/VMM DB server and another one for SCCM (SCCM DB and SCVMM DB cannot be on the same computer).
    But I read on Microsoft web site that only SQL Server 2012 SP1 are supported for VMM DB server and SQL Server 2012 SP2 is supported for SCOM DB server.
    So my question is: Can I deploy one box SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?  if not, When SQL Server 2012 SP2 will be supported for VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?

  • Trying to install features for PowerPivot and Reporting Services from SQL Server 2012 with SP2, but no access to key?

    Hi,
    I had installed SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot on WFE and App Server. This is test farm with 1 WFE and 1 APP and 1 SQL Server.
    However, we had a heap of issues with Windows Claims Authentication and PowerPivot - issues were raised with "unable to make a connection to EntityDataSource" . Now we uninstalled the PowerPivot and Reporting Services features and wanted to install
    with the SQL Server 2012 with SP2. Originally SP2 was installed seperately and we had read there had been issues.
    Anyway on trying to install the features again using the SQL Server 2012 with SP2 iso I get
    Could not open key UNKNOWN\Components
    I don't want to start deleting or changing permissions as quite dodgey. What is this key for anyway and how do I resolve my issue.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
    Did you meet the error message during the process of configuring the PowerPivot for SharePoint?
    If yes, I suppose that the existing features or components have not been uninstalled completely.
    I recommend to delete the two keys left when uninstalling the PowerPivot and please make a copy of the registry keys before you delete the two keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServiceProxy
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServicea
    Please check the steps in the link below to see if there anything wrong when you uninstalling the PowerPivot and then re-install it to see how it works:

    MDS related fix is:
    FIX: Add three stored procedures to clean up history that is created when you use SQL Server 2012 MDS
    http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3036601
    After using MDS for a while, the transaction/validation/staging history may grow very large. In this CU we provide 3 store procedure to clean them up manually.
    The fix will be ported over to SQL 2012 SP2 and SQL 2014 CUs in the coming 2 months.
    In next SQL Server release, it will be automated by MDS maintenance job.
    --@ModelID is the model ID that you clean up the log for.
    --@CLeanupOlderThanDate is the date before that the logs or records is deleted.
    DECLARE @CleanupOlderThanDate date = '<Date>', @ModelID INT = <ID>
    --Cleanup Transaction History
    EXEC mdm.udpTransactionsCleanup @ModelID, @CleanupOlderThanDate;

    EXEC mdm.udpEntityStagingBatchTableCleanup @ModelID, @CleanupOlderThanDate;

    Hi SelvaOnline,
    I would recommend to install SP2 and the hotfix that came after it.

     When I installed the SQL Server 2012 X64 SP1, I got the attached error.
     What might be the issue here?

    Hello,
    Are you trying to install SQL Server on a compressed or encrypted drive? SQL Server won’t install on a drive/folder with these attributes.
    Are you trying to install SQL Server on a ReFS file system? It is not supported on SQL Server 2012.
    Disable any security/antivirus software and download the media again. Mount the media (.ISO file) and try to install again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using SQL Server 2012 SSIS to Extract Data From SAP

    Hi
    What is the current best practice for using SQL Server 2012 SSIS to extract data from SAP R3? Please note we are looking for a solution that does not use SAP BW or SAP OHS.
    Ideally we would like to build our ETL SSIS process to make a .NET call to an SAP RFC procedure and avoid using web services.
    With SS2012 can we use any of these without using SAP BW:
    - SAP .NET Connector
    - MS ADO .NET
    - BizTalk .NET 3.0 Adapter
    Thanks and take care,
    Shayne

    Hi Shayne,
    You can use the .NET Framework Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite along with SQL Server Integration Service (SSIS) to import data from an SAP system into SQL Server database tables, flat files, or other compatible destination types. You can create an SSIS
    package that can be executed to import data from an SAP system.
    You must use the SQL Server Import and Export wizard to import data into the SQL Server database. You must provide a select query to specify data to be imported. The query must confirm to the semantics supported by the Data Provider for SAP. You can start the
    SQL Server Import Export Wizard either from the SQL Server Management Studio or from an Integration Service project in Visual Studio. Detail steps please see:
    Importing SAP Data Using SQL Server Management Studio:

  • When installing DPM2012 R2 to a remote SQL Server 2012 R2 Sp1 produces an error 832

    Sorry for bad english
    Good afternoon trying to overcome the installation error 832
    There are two virtual servers on ESXI
    1. DPM on it trying to install itself DPM
    2. SQL it should be a database DPM
    SQL virtual machine on the net it was added component NetFW 3.5 put SQL Server 2012 SP1 EN-en. In the first plug SQL Data Base, Report Services, SQL Management studio from all services are running under a domain administrator
    When you install SQL selected Server Collation "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_Cl_AS"
    Both hosts have Windows Server 2012 R2 En-en
    DPM virtual machine clean, installed on it NetFW 3.5 and the component SQL Management studio, when you install DPM SQL Server validation errors not issued, at the end of the installation gives an error 832
    Windows Server 2012 R2, SQL Server 2012 Sp1, DPM 2012 R2, all downloaded from a site microsoft
    Visited rearrange SQL, rearrange Windows, put Ru-ru and En-en
    Went to run the SQL from under Local system and other domain account
    Where then subtracted that you want to create a domain / local recording Microsoft$DPM$ACC and run from under her service
    did not help.
    The only thing that bothers me more is that the domain name is XXX.YYY.local here where you need to read that domain would look like XXX.local but not sure that's true

    Hi
    Can you post the log file so we can see the error in more detail?

  • Error rsItemNotFound when using ReportingService2010 endpoint in SharePoint Mode (SQL Server 2012 & SP2013)

    Hi all,
    I installed SQL Server 2012 in SharePoint Mode, with SharePoint 2013 on a Windows Server 2012 virtual machine. The issue occurs when I try to use the ListChildren operation of the ReportService2010 endpoint.
    It manages to connect to the server, but it refuses to list any children. Here's the code I'm using:
    using System;
    using System.Net;
    internal class Test
    public static void Main()
    var rs = new ReportingService2010
    Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password", "machine")
    CatalogItem[] items = null;
    // Retrieve a list of all items from the report server database.
    try
    items = rs.ListChildren("/", true);
    catch (Exception e)
    Console.WriteLine(e.Message);
    When executed, this code throws an exception (which is caught and displayed) : "The item '/' cannot be found. (rsItemNotFound)"
    The same code works (i.e. does not throw any exception and the items variable contains some CatalogItem) when used against a SQL Server 2012 configured in native mode.
    I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here, maybe the first parameter shouldn't be "/" but something else?
    Thanks for your help
    Aotio

    +1
    I'm getting this error as well.  My test software is connecting to two different servers; one is running on SharePoint 2010 and I have no problems using the ReportingService2010 functions on that, but I am getting this same error when trying to connect
    to a service on SharePoint 2013.

  • DSC, SQL Server 2012 Enterprise sp2 x64, SQL Server Failover Cluster Install not succeeding

    Summary: DSC fails to fully install the SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster, but the identical code snippet below run in powershell ise with administrator credentials works perfectly as does running the SQL server install interface.
    In order to develop DSC configurations, I have set up a Windows Server 2012 R2 failover cluster in VMware Workstation v10 consisting of 3 nodes.  All have the same Windows Server 2012 version and have been fully patched via Microsoft Updates.
    The cluster properly fails over on command and the cluster validates.  Powershell 4.0 is being used as installed in windows.
    PDC
    Node1
    Node2
    The DSC script builds up the parameters to setup.exe for SQL Server.  Here is the cmd that gets built...
    $cmd2 = "C:\SOFTWARE\SQL\Setup.exe /Q /ACTION=InstallFailoverCluster /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER /INSTANCEID=MSSQLSERVER /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /UpdateEnabled=false /IndicateProgress=false /FEATURES=SQLEngine,FullText,SSMS,ADV_SSMS,BIDS,IS,BC,CONN,BOL /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD=password#1 /SQLSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /SQLSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS=`"SAASLAB1\sql_admin`" `"SAASLAB1\sql_services`" `"SAASLAB1\cubara01`" /AGTSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /AGTSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCACCOUNT=SAASLAB1\sql_services /ISSVCPASSWORD=password#1 /ISSVCSTARTUPTYPE=Automatic /FAILOVERCLUSTERDISKS=MountRoot /FAILOVERCLUSTERGROUP='SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)' /FAILOVERCLUSTERNETWORKNAME=SQLClusterLab1 /FAILOVERCLUSTERIPADDRESSES=`"IPv4;192.168.100.15;LAN;255.255.255.0`" /INSTALLSQLDATADIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLData\MSSQLSERVER /SQLUSERDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLLogs\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLTEMPDBLOGDIR=M:\SAN\SQLTempDB\MSSQLSERVER /SQLBACKUPDIR=M:\SAN\Backups\MSSQLSERVER > C:\Logs\sqlInstall-log.txt "
    Invoke-Expression $cmd2
    When I run this specific command in Powershell ISE running as administrator, logged in as domain account that is in the Node1's administrators group and has domain administrative authority, it works perfectly fine and sets up the initial node properly.
    When I use the EXACT SAME code above pasted into my custom DSC resource, as a test with a known successful install, run with the same user as above, it does NOT completely install the cluster properly.  It still installs 17 applications
    related to SQL Server and seems to properly configure everything except the cluster.  The Failover Cluster Manager shows that the SQL Server Role will not come on line and the SQL Server Agent Role is not created.
    The code is run on Node1 so the setup folder is local to Node1.
    The ConfigurationFile.ini files for the two types of installs are identical.
    Summary.txt does have issues..
    Feature:                       Database Engine Services
      Status:                        Failed: see logs for details
      Reason for failure:            An error occurred during the setup process of the feature.
      Next Step:                     Use the following information to resolve the error, uninstall this feature, and then run the setup process again.
      Component name:                SQL Server Database Engine Services Instance Features
      Component error code:          0x86D8003A
      Error description:             The cluster resource 'SQL Server' could not be brought online.  Error: There was a failure to call cluster code from a provider. Exception message: Generic
    failure . Status code: 5023. Description: The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.  .
    It feels like this is a security issue with DSC or an issue with the setup in SQL Server, but please note I have granted administrators group and domain administrators authority.  The nodes were built with the same login.  Windows firewall
    is completely disabled.
    Please let me know if any more detail is required.

    Hi Lydia,
    Thanks for your interest and help.
    I tried "Option 3 (recommended)" and that did not help.
    The issue I encounter with the fail-over cluster only occurs when trying to install with DSC!
    Using the SQL Server Install wizard, Command Prompt and even in Powershell by invoking the setup.exe all work perfectly.
    So, to reiterate, this issue only occurs while running in the context of DSC.
    I am using the same domain login with Domain Admin Security and locally the account has Administrators group credentials.  The SQL Server Service account also has Administrators Group Credentials.

  • SQL Server 2012 - applying SP2 breaks SSRS Report Builder

    Hi,
    Had SQL 2012 (was 11.00.2845) and SSRS configured and working.
    Applied SQL 2012 SP2 (server now at version 11.0.5058.0 (X64).
    But when I goto the typical "http://server/ReportS_INST1 - reports still work ok, but clicking on Report Builder looks like it starts the download and then errors.
    The error is "Application validation did not succeed.  Unable to continue.".
    Clicking on Details gets the message below.  I understand it thinks it has a version mismatch, but anyone know what the resolution should be?

    Hello,
    It seems to me somebody applied SP2 for SQL Server 2012 on an instance that has installed SQL Server 2012 SP1 CTP 4. CTP4 is not
    the final version of SP1.

    My suggestion is to uninstall SP2 (using Control Panel), download and apply SP1 from the following link, and then apply SP2 again.

  • SQL Server 2012 64 bit - reading data from dbf (DBase 3/4/5 or VFoxPro) - solution and examples

    It took me quite a while to find a solution that will enable me to read dbf files from 64 bit SQL server, so i decided to create this guide for all of you guys searching for an answer.
    Download and install Access Database Engine 64 bit : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255
    Creating Linked server for me is the most elegant solution
    To create a Linked Server modify following sql statement with your data and execute it:
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver
    @server = N'DBFServer',
    @srvproduct=N'',
    @provider=N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
    @datasrc=N'D:\DBF\',
    @provstr=N'dBASE IV'
    You can read data directly without linked server, but i find this less elegant
    To read data directly modify following sql statement with your data and execute it:
    Use KTCDB
    GO
    sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1
    reconfigure
    GO
    sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 1
    reconfigure
    GO
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' , N'AllowInProcess' , 1;
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' , N'DynamicParameters' , 1;
    SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0',
                           'dBASE IV;Database=D:\DBF\;',
                           'SELECT * FROM ODMRAD')
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' , N'AllowInProcess' , 0;
    EXEC master.dbo.sp_MSset_oledb_prop N'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' , N'DynamicParameters' , 0;
    GO
    sp_configure 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries', 0
    reconfigure
    GO
    sp_configure 'show advanced options', 0
    reconfigure
    GO
    I hope this will help you guys avoid frustration and wasting lots of time.

    Visakh, i believe you are mixing terms 'reading' and 'importing', as with solution i proposed you can consume 'live' data without the need to
    import it on every change.
    To clarify : Data in DBF's can change at any point in time, and with my solution whenever you try to read data from either linked server or directly, you will always have most recent data, contrary to the import methods where you are cloning data and actually
    could run into many problems synchronizing original and cloned data.
    Ok..I understand that
    Based on your data volatility you can configure an automated job for executing SSIS package to extract latest of data from dbase. But again it wont be "in real time". There will be slight delay depending on frequency you choose for job.
    I was suggesting it more from a datawarehousing perspective whether data refresh happens only after predefined period (daily,6hrs etc)
    If requirement is to get realtime data when you desire then definitely linked server would be the way to go.

  • Why do I get the following error message when trying to use Report Builder in sql server 2012?

    sukai

    Hi sukai,
    The issue is due to one or more of the files listed in the application manifest cannot be found on the server. We can upload all the deployment’s dependents files, and try again. And frequently this means that the application is somehow corrupted, or that
    the ClickOnce store is corrupted. Please refer to the following thread to fix the issue.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/47c9f7c6-00ed-4980-9667-5c176ad7116a/ssrs-report-builder-application-cannot-be-started-contact-application-vendor
    According to your screenshot, you are using Chrome. Please use IE browser try it again. SSRS not all report functionality is supported by all browsers. Please refer to the similar thread below:

    I've recall that I've tried to help people with this error before, but I'm sure they were able to sort it out.
    Anyway, this blog post,
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqljourney/archive/2012/10/09/sql-2008-service-fails-to-come-online-with-a-valid-certificate-could-not-be-found-and-it-is-not-possible-to-create-a-self-signed-certificate.aspx
    suggests the issue is a corrupted user profile, and you should try to use a different service account.
    This blog also seems to have a simple solution, but I cannot vouch for that it will work:
