When is OS X going to include an uninstaller? [Feature Request]
Hello all,
I love Mac OS X, but to uninstall a software completely sometimes it can be a real pain.
Does anyone knows how do I submit this FR?
Currently If I want to uninstall an application completely specially when dealing with Pro Audio software, DAWs, etc... You have to delete all relevant files of an application which can be found on the following locations:
Mac HD / Applications /
Mac HD / Users / <Username> / Library / Preferences /*
Mac HD / Library / Audio / Plug-ins / VST /
Mac HD / Library / Audio / Plug-ins / VST3 /
Mac HD / Library / Audio / Plug-ins / Components /
Mac HD / Library / Application Support /
Mac HD / Library / Application Support / Company Name / Content / VST Sound /
Mac HD / Library / Application Support / Company Name / Content / Halion / VST Sound /
In some cases even after removing those files it could be that the reinstallation of the product might fail.
If anyone has a better solution I will be glad to hear.

Originally the concept of OS X was that you merely dragged an application in to the Applications folder to 'install' it and dragged it from the Applications folder to Trash to 'uninstall' it. Clearly for many applications the reality is no longer anywhere near as simple.
I would agree therefore that logically as Apple want people to use their (Apple's) Installer.app to install software packages that adding a standard uninstall feature to it makes sense. This is especially the case when one considers the fact that the Installer program adds a receipt to /Library/Receipts to record what has been installed. This information would seem ideal for knowing what to uninstall.
For business or education environments one can use a variety of other tools to install software even if in the form of an Apple Installer package and add the ability to automatically uninstall the same packages. Munki is an example of a tool that can do this. It requires a fair amount of setting up and sometimes you have to write additional scripts to help along the uninstall process but as an example I have it setup to allow installing Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office, Dragon Dictate, and many others and to also allow uninstalling them as well.

an old subject I know, but when are TV episodes going to be available in the iTunes Ireland store? I spend a phenomenal amount on apple music and movies, and expect access to all medium available via the store, including TV episodes. Where on earth do you post this question in order for someone from Apple to respond?

The fact remains that no one at Apple is going to tell you anything at all that they have not announced. The way they let people know what is going on is by announcing it. If they have not announced it, then there is no way to know.

The itunes store cannot sell anything without the permission of the owners of the distribution rights permission. -
i tried to up date my i phone 4 to iOS 5 then it wiped my phone and now it tells me to connect to iTunes and that the iPhone is in recovery mode and when i connect it goes to preparing to install to iPhone but never goes any further how do i restore the phone
by reset option do you mean the DFU restore? worked for me, have you tried that?
if not - hold the lock and home button until the power down bar comes up. then hold the lock button for ten seconds - next continue to hold the lock button and press the home button for ten seconds - next release the lock button and hold the home button for 10 seconds. this should be done with the phone tethered. If done right and your itunes is configured as such, the phone will reload the drivers and start up itunes, and then prompt for a restore/update. -
When ever the power goes out or I restart my iMac the external hard drive that is used for backups by Time Machine is dismounted and all backups are gone. I can reselect it and it will start working again, but I am worried if the iMac hard drive should fail will I be left without a backup ?

It's possible a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app can fix it, but they're expensive (DiskWarrior is about $100), and there's no guarantee it can do it.
Am prompted to reformat but I don't have a good understanding of what this means and how to do it.
That will erase it. See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #5.
It sounds very much like the disk is beginning to fail, although it's possible there's a bad port, cable, connection or power supply (if it has its own).
I'd suggest getting a new one, and using it for your Time Machine backups; once you have a good backup there, reformat the old one (and select Security Options to write zeros to the whole drive -- if that fails, you know the drive is toast). Use it for secondary backups, per FAQ #27. If it has failed, get a second new one for secondary backups. -

This could be a plist corruption problem, but I'm not sure.
Sometimes, the preference list files get corrupted. You can usually just remove them and they'll get re-created. This may require you to reset certain settings. A notable exception to this is the Mail plist which actually stores the Library structure of your email accounts. Deleting the Mail plist will definitely cause lots of problems, but is recoverable.
The plist files are stored in the /Users/username/Library/Preferences/ folder. They usually have the naming convention of com.company.programname.plist.
A simple troubleshooting technique is to move a suspect plist file out of the Preferences folder and start up the app, again. It will re-create the plist from scratch.
In your case, I would try the com.apple.dock.plist. You can use Activity Monitor to kill the Dock app and it will restart. Or, you can log out and log back in.
There is a new file with Leopard called com.apple.dock.db. I haven't figured out what it does, but you might try moving it out. If anything gets worse, you can move the old file back in replacing the newly created one.
This all sound somewhat odd, so I don't know if this will help. -

Your mailserver is sometimes requesting authentication and sometimes not. The reason for that can't be found in the SAP system but in the mailserver since that is requesting the authentication.
"Webmail" is the application on top but that is not the system sending and receiving the mail.
The SAP system is out of scope here. I'd check the mail server logs why it is requesting authentication sometimes and sometimes not.

My MacBook Pro will not start. When I started it goes to a gray screen with the Apple logo and has the spinning dial. When I started in safe mode it will not start. In safe mode it as an error message that says MacBook Launch_msg(): Socket is not connected
If running 10.7 or later hold down Command-R at Startup.
This should invoke recovery Mode.
Choose Disk Utility.
Select your Hard drive. Inspect the SMART Status in the lower right of the window for "Verified".
Select the Mac OS X Volume (originally Macintosh HD) click (Repair Disk)
If errors, run again until it comes clean or gets stuck.
Report any error messages. -

I was using photoshop CC as normal, when suddenly it started going haywire. It has corrupted all the open PSD files by distorting the images and colour. They are now completely unrecognisable and unusable. Does anyone know how to recover the original images as I was saving them as I went along but the files are now corrupt?
What version of Photoshop are you running?
I've seen a couple of instances over the last week or two where Photoshop has added masks, strange colours and also merged content from two separate PSD files that were open at the same time.
This has occurred on two different iMacs, (both 10.10.x) running Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 (20141204.r.310 x64).
