How do you get iTunes to notice devices when they are attached? I have connected the device and disconnected as required and it will go away but later it will reappear. This only occurring after the iOS5 update.
If your wife has selected "Sync with this phone over WiFi, the phone will always appear.

You may need to connect the iPod in Recovery Mode and then restore it via iTunes. See this article for instructions on getting your iPod into Recovery Mode.;

My Ipod Classic appears in My Computer when I connected it to my new Windows 8 pc. When Itunes starts my Ipod is no longer appears in My Computer and is not shown under Devices in Itunes. It appears that Itunes disconnects my Ipod from the pc. My Ipod still sync's up fine with Itunes on my old Windows XP pc.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
If you have a PPC Mac you cannot sync your idevice without a newer computer. See the end of this post for options.
If it says you have an Intel Mac you can upgrade to Snow Leopard, but check system requirements first:

Options if you cannot upgrade: iTunes Store purchases can already be downloaded directly. Use iTunes Match to put non-Store music in iCloud, then download to your device from there. Backup your device directly to iCloud over a wireless connection. Photos can be downloaded from the Camera Roll using iPhoto or Image Capture. -
IPod Unit in Computer Resources list disappears when iTunes Starts
When iTunes Starts and detects the iPod device the iPod disk resource, in computer resource list (e.g. iPod (G:)) disappears. In this way any action I made to iPod fails.

help me....I tried two different USB ports each a failure. Other USB items are as follows: wireless mouse + keyboard bundle, wireless network adapter, digital camera (sits there all the time), and 500 GB Western Digital external hard drive. At the moment it works again (for now). I don't know why it worked for me but I tried a non-official iPod song loader and when that didn't work I just deleted everything on the iPod (hidden files too) and the next time iTunes tried syncing it asked to set up new iPod controls. After that it stayed on the My Computer folder and I could reload songs through iTunes. I haven't tried it more than this once because I don't want to jinx it. I don't suggest my way because it was probably dumb luck. -
What is it that resets the Music Location when iTunes starts?
So whenever you have your Music Location set to a mount on a remote device. Such as a share on a Time Capsule for instance if the mount isn't present when iTunes starts iTunes will always reset the Music Location back to it's default.
Is there a way to stop this from happening?
Can I make it so that mount is always available before iTunes or iTunes Helper starts?
Both I and my wife on her Air want to share the same remote device for our music library but we don't want iTunes to keep reseting the Music Location.Option selects the iTunes library file, which is most likely in the /Music/iTunes folder on the Mac HD.
The iTunes music folder is on the Time Capsule which needs to be mounted.
As Robert noted, add the Time Capsule to your Login items. -

Where do you get the info telling you that you have unknown devices connected to your router's network? Make sure to enable the wireless security of the router. Use WPA2 encryption. With wireless security enabled, it will ensure that no one else can connect not unless you provide them the wireless security code.

When I watch tv shows in Front Row that I've bought off iTunes the audio gradually falls out of sync with the video. It does not happen with other files that I have converted into mp4s. Any ideas for fixing this? It's a huge bummer...
I too have the same problem. The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video. Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a joke, my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well. at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues. Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!, there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

ITunes Library.itl keeps disappearing when iTunes starts
I just updated to iTunes 10.8.0.40. Now my iTunes Library.itl file keeps disappearing.
When iTunes starts, I get a message that says, "The iTunes Library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder inthe "Music" folder."
I copy a backup from the "Previous iTunes Library" folder and then iTunes will start. However, the file disappears again as iTunes is starting. Right after it disappears, iTunes displays a message that says, "Checking iTunes Library..." followed by "Updating iTunes Library..." Then I get a message that says, "The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. A folder was specified instead of a file."
The process repeats endlessly. How do I stop iTunes from deleting the iTunes Library.itl file as it starts?I fixed this by removing iTunes and installing MediaMonkey. Most of the music I have in iTunes has been ripped from my CDs and MediaMonkey found all of those MP3's within a couple minutes. The last time I had to rebuild my iTunes database, it took two days because I couldn't figure out how to stop it from analyzing the volume. The few albums that I bought through iTunes, I will burn to a CD and re-rip. Despite the name, MediaMonkey seems to be a much better program for managing music and runs significantly faster on my little HP mini.
This is the fourth and last time I'm dealing with the problem of iTunes deleting my database. Good riddance iTunes. -
