When jpeg's are sent as email attachments from other computers, they arrive on my imac as winmail.dat files that I can't open. What do i need to do to receive such attachments as jpegs that I can open?

Look at your settings iPhoto>Preferences>Accounts
and make changes here or add your email account if not in the list
One thing to look at for sure is the SMTP sever name, I think by default it fills it in as smtp.me.com or some such, which may not be your email outgoing server.

My wife and I both have comcast.net emails. When the secretary at our church sent both of us the same email with a .docx attachment, and we open the email on our IMac with Mail, it shows up under my email as a .docx (which I can open and read) but it shows up under my wife's email as a winmail.dat file. Why?

Yes. Our incoming mail servers are the same. When i go into Mail Preferences and look at Accounts, everything iin all three areas (account information, mailbox behaviors and advanced) are all the same except for our individual email addresses and passwords.
I just noticed by going back to some older emails in my wife's account that she has received .docx attachments from other church members (and they open up just fine). This would lead me to believe that it would be some setting on the church secretary's computer. I will forward your above referenced article to our church secretary and have her be sure her settings are set as recommeded.
I am still baffled, however, as to why my Mail account has not had this issue, and my wife's has.

All the fill-in PDF forms I've used are read/only. Meaning that whatever you fill in does not get stored and saved back with the file.
As Linc suggests, you will be creating a new PDF, that will not have fillable fields but that will contain whatever you filled in.

Based on a recommendation from an AppleCare rep, I downloaded "TNEF's Enough" so I could read winmail.dat attachments from others. It won't work and when I called again, I was told AppleCare doesn't support third party apps. How do I activate it? I tried double clicking on it and nothing happened.

If so, any error message provided?
If the message is in the account's Sent mailbox, this means the message was successfully sent.

Suddenly, my Word docs are showing up on IPAD email as winmail.dat files

I've been sending myself word docs from Windows Outlook desktop email so I can work on documents on my IPAD while away from home. Worked fine until yesterday, and now my word2003 attached docs on Ipad email are showing up as unopenable winmail.dat files. I've done nothing different, so am not sure what is happening. Other people's emails with Word docx files are opening fine as are pdfs

Sorry, I can't help with why it is happening but there is an app available to read them.

If it's a POP account and you set it up in Mail with the option to delete read messages from the server, then you can indeed no longer read it on the server. You may be able to restore the messages to the server if you also have IMAP access. Ask your mail service provider whether it's possible.
