When launching iTunes 7 and Quicktime 7.1.3 Reinstall dialog keeps showing!

Here is a strange problem that I have never seen before.
I installed the new iTunes 7 and Quicktime 7.1.3 and I always like to move the folders from my Start All Programs List to my Entertainment folder. But because of doing that now when I start both iTunes and Quicktime player a dialog pops up telling me I need to reinstall. And when I click ok it does reinstall each one. And puts them back under Start All Programs List. And everytime I move them to anther folder like the Entertainment folder the reinstall dialog comes back.
I never had this problems with any other version of iTunes or Quicktime!
Anyone else have this issue? And when will it be fixed?

For the problem...
Moving the shortcuts from the "Programs" folder to another folder upsets both QuickTime and iTunes when you start these programs using the shortcuts in the new location.
The simplest way to get to the relevant folders is to right-click the Start button and choose "Explore All Users" and instead of MOVING the shortcuts, COPY them and DELETE the originals.
In more detail,
DO NOT "MOVE" (drag and drop) the "iTunes" folder to the new location, instead...
"COPY and PASTE"
EITHER ctrl-drag and drop the "iTunes" folder from "All Users\Start Menu\Programs" into the location you want it to appear in (e.g. "All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Music"),
OR right-shift "Copy" the "iTunes" folder from "All Users\Start Menu\Programs" and then right-click "Paste" it into the location you want it to appear in (e.g. "All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Music"),
AND THEN delete the original "iTunes" folder from "All Users\Start Menu\Programs".

  • ITunes 7 and Quicktime shortcut reinstallation annoyance

Whenever I move my Start menu shortcuts (e.g. from the root to the AUDIO submenu) I get a "Please wait while Windows configures Quicktime." and the **** thing reinstalls the shortcuts in the Start Menu, the desktop, and the quickstart bar. I don't want these icons, why can't I put them where I want. Quicktime/Itunes 7 are the only programs that do this. The previous version that I used was ok.

    Thanks.
I deleted the nonstandard Quicktime/iTunes shortcuts.
I created new shortcuts pointing to iTunes.exe and Quicktime.exe.
I put the shortcuts where I wanted in the Start Menu submenu and.
The shortcuts now work normally, and no reinstallation takes place when I launch Quicktime or iTunes.
Now I'm moving on to other installation annoyances: getting rid of that QTTASK, getting rid of iPodService (I don't have an iPod), getting rid of QtHelper.

  • What action can I take to eliminate the following error message when launching iTunes?

Since the iTunes upgrade last week I persistently get the following message when launching iTunes. "You are signed in with a different Apple ID than previously used with Podcasts. Do you want to sync these podcast subscriptions and stations with ------------ "
I only have one Apple ID of which I am aware. I changed the password just before the update, after receiving an email advising access from a device that I did not recognise.
The error message goes on to refer to a Windows XP, desktop system as the previous platform for this synchronisation. I have been relying upon the old MacBook Pro since March, when iTunes on the Desktop crashed. I gave up trying reinstallation etc. on the desktop as nothing appeared to resolve the problem. I have "uninstalled" the application in Windows but lack the necessary skills to remove all traces. I still get error messages about iTunes when opening Windows XP but there is no evidence of application elements on the Hard Drive / System that I am able to recognise.
iTunes appears to lack a process for updating to recognise that the current platform should be the default.

Try signing out of iTunes, then back in again. This worked for me and a few others. To sign out, in the iTunes menu bar, click "Store" > "Sign Out".

  • Itunes 9 and Quicktime error 1402 hkey_local_machine\software\machine\micro

    Hi,
I am a beginner when it comes to software and dowloading problems. I gave my husband an Ipod Nano for Christmas and I have spent close to 12 hours trying to figure out why we can't get Itunes 9 and Quicktime to load. Everytime we try we get to the very end and we get the following message:
    error 1402
    hkeylocalmachine\software\machine\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run
Any help would be appreciated as my husband was so excited to receive this gift and it is just a paper weight at the moment! Thank you!

Hello, I hesitate to post this advice to a person who states they are a beginner with software, since it involves going into the PC's registry. Don't do this if you are not comfortable with it.
Using the registry editor ( go to Start, Run, type in "regedit", then click OK )
navigate to the key from the error message, click once on it, then click Edit, Permissions.
If your User Profile has Administrator rights, then the boxes should be checked next to Full Control and Read. SYSTEM should be set the same.
If they aren't, I suggest you change them.
Another option would be to create a new Windows administrator account, and see if you can get itunes to install using that.

  • Fault with iTunes 8 and QuickTime - Network resource unavailable

This is a similar query to one already found in the iTunes discussion pages however I could not see an answer there as to how to fix this without downgrading so I have posted here. I do not wish to downgrade, I would much rather get iTunes 8 working properly.
    My problem is as follows:
I downloaded iTunes 8 (via Apple update) and once I had done so it both iTunes and QuickTime worked fine on my pc. However, after I turned my pc on again the next time (I have Windows XP Home Edition and Service Pack 3) and clicked the iTunes shortcut, I got the following message:
"This action is only valid for shortcuts that are currently installed"
I tried re-downloading and re-installing iTunes 8 and QuickTime (both manually and using Apple Update) several times and each time I got the following error:
"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package QuickTime.msi (or iTunes.msi) in the box below."
I found the locations of the appropriate .msi files, selected OK, but was given another message:
"The Path C:\Documents and Settings\username\etc cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package QuickTime.msi (or iTunes.msi) in a folder from which you can install the product QuickTime (or iTunes)."
This same thing happened when I tried to uninstall each program.
At the moment, I have no functioning iTunes. I have also tried restoring my system but due to another unrelated issue with my OS, this did not work properly and I am still in the same position.
Any help that anyone can provide would be most gratefully received.
    Thank you.

It sounds as though things have got in a bit of a muddle. Usually removing iTunes and related programs and doing and installer file clean up fixes this:
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program –All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete and file or folder called Quicktime.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

When launching iTunes match in Austria or is Germany better than we????

Sorry, we're all apple users here too.  None of us that I know of work for apple.  We are just all apple users that try to help each other out.
I would say as soon as Apple possible can they will launch it in your country.  Might have to do with goverment regulations or music licenses in your country.
Apple wants to take as much of your money as you'll give them so I'm sure they are working hard to give you the chance.

Videos created on my ipad2 are black when played on picasa and quicktime.  How can I remedy this so any player can use the video without having to use handbrake to convert?

Assuming that you are trying to update apps that you bought with your own ID .... Try changing it in the app store app. Tap the featured tab in the App Store. Go down to the bottom left corner. You can access your ID in there as well. See if your son-in-law's ID is still showing. If it is - tap it and sign out. Sign in with your ID.
If you are trying to update apps that he bought with his ID, you have to use his ID and password to update them. Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them.

    Hey there Smurf_28,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
I would next try connecing the iPhone to the wall charger that came with it, and resetting the device:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If your device stops responding, you can reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the reset is done, it will still be in recovery mode, so connect it to iTunes and continue with the restore.

This makes no sense.  You don't configure a listener nor a tnsnames.ora "in a database".   I hope this is just a language issue and not reflective of a fundamental misunderstanding of how tns works.

how to update Ipad 2 from IOS 4.3.5 to IOS 5? Itunes won't let me do it because it keeps showing error messages asking me to check if my network is active.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.1.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 7.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
    To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
    Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
    To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.
     Cheers, Tom

  • OS X's Constant "Allow" or "Deny" prompt when launching iTunes and YIM

Every time I launch iTunes, Mac OS X displays a prompt, asking, "Do you want the application "iTunes.app" to accept incoming network connections? Clicking Deny may limit the application's behavior. This setting can be changed in the Firewall pane of Security preferences." It gives me the option to Deny or Allow it. I click Allow, but it gives me this prompt every time I launch iTunes. I've checked the Security preferences...but this still happens. It happens when I sign into Yahoo! Instant Messenger.

    1) Download a new copy of iTunes from Apple: http://www.apple.com/itunes/
    2) Drag your current copy of iTunes from the Applications folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash (don't worry, this won't delete your movies/music.)
    3) Go to the Firewall pane of your Security preferences and delete any references to iTunes
    4) Install the new copy of iTunes.
    That should be it.
The procedure would be much the same for Yahoo! IM - download a new copy, delete the old one, and install the new one.

  • Warning message when launching iTunes

I upgraded to iTunes8 and on launching iTunes, the following error message appears "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CD's and DVD's are missing. This can happen as a result of other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I then reinstalled the "Repair" from the downloaded file (iTunes8Setup), but the warning message still appears after rebooting my computer and launching iTunes . I then removed iTunes from my computer and reinstalled iTunes from this download (iTunes8Setup). I rebooted my computer and launched iTunes, same result. Any ideas on how I can fix this warning message. Please note this warning message did not appear when launching my previous version of iTunes.

I do not burn any CD's so don't have one to insert into the drive to test the diagnostics. No I am not running 64 bit version of XP.
