When making a book, inaccurate thumbnails show on top

When i am working on a book, photos from all over my library show up as the thumbnails (about 50% of them are correct & 50% are inaccurate). When i double-click on the wrong thumbnails, the correct photo shows up (not the one on the thumbnail). i am not sure if it is a library issue...i have about 4000 pictures in my iphoto library and when i scroll the library it also happens there too (but changes back to the correct photo in a seconds). how can i fix this or does apple know that they need to find / create a fix for this?

Hi Ronald,
It seems the thumbnails are messed up. Try a rebuild of thumbnails and see if it solves the problem.
Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
Close iPhoto
Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.

  • When making a book, one of my photos selected appears only on the flap, how can I get it to be in the book also?

    1.  When making a book using Iphoto, one of my photos selected appears only on the back flap, how can I get it to be in the book also? I added an extra page thinking that would help, didn't!
    2.  It says that you can photos anytime, can I add a photo that I did not select originally without starting completely over?
...any suggesstions for both problems would be appreciated. Thanks

you can use a photo many time is the same book - simply drag it from the photo strip to the photo frame you want it in - even though you have used it before you can still use it again
And adding photos is easy - go to the photo (in an album, event or photo view) and drag the photo(s) to the book under keepsakes - it will now be available to use

  • IPhoto only shows one photo (first one) when making Photo Book?

I clicked the + to add the album, I chose the "Book" option, but it only lets me use the first photo in the album.  The other 60  photos aren't in the view bar above.  How do I get all of the photos to appear so that I can arrange the photo book, or do Autoflow?
Also, what am I missing that I used to be able to see thumbnails and I can only see that in Full Screen now?
    thanks-

Try selectihng all of the photos in the album instead of just clicking on the album and dragging them onto the book icon.  That will add the photos to the book.  You can do the same with any photos in the library: just drag a photo onto the book icon to add the photo to the book.

  • Layouts in IPhoto when making a book

Is there any way to choose from the many Layouts in Iphoto. What I mean is when your mfaking a book, you get to choose how pictures on each page, and then we choose the layout. but sometimes the mac chooses a layout that I ddin't have an option to choose, due to an odd sized phot etc. Or it some tiems flips the layout around. I'm wondering can I choose which layout out of these mysteriuos extra ones. In Iphoto six I could double click on a layout and it would would switch back and forth. Anyone Know what i'm talking about and how I can do it? Thanks

    mpkline:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Sometimes, if the layout is for multiple photos, it will depend on which photo is added first and where. You may have to experiment with adding the photos in a different sequence and/or frame on the layout to see if you can get what you want.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Iphoto just keeps shutting down when I am trying to make a book. Every time it shuts down, it erases most of the content of my book. Help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where in the process does it shut down? When you try to drag a photo into the book or into a page?
If it's when trying to add a photo, can you edit that photo without crashing and do you use Photoshop Elements or Photoshop for any of your editing?

  • Setting the photos to look at when making iPhoto book

I'm trying to make an iPhoto book in iPhoto.  The problem I have is in when you select photos to add photos to your Book, the drop down selections are:
    All Photos In Project
    Placed Photos
    Unplaced Photos
    * My Last Project *
    Last Import
    Last 12 Months
    Flagged
What I'd like to do is be able to add a value to that drop down or add an album.  What happens is I start creating my Book, then I realized I want another picture that was not originally part of my project into the book.  Then I do some editing on that photo and import it into iPhoto.  Sometimes I import other photos into iPhoto after that first picture I edited, but now I have say 5 photos on different imports that I'd like to include into my book.  The only easy way I can view those photos I have found is if I flag them if they are not part of the Last Import.  I was wondering if there was a better way that would allow me to just choose photos from an already existing album or something that was not part of the initial project.
In the drop down, the *My Last Project*, I'm not even really sure how that gets populated.  It looks to be the last project I imported or edited, but not really sure.  So in the end, is there a better way I can add photos to a photo book?  Or is flagging the best way?  Thanks.

    What is your iPhoto version?
The only easy way I can view those photos I have found is if I flag them if they are not part of the Last Import.  I was wondering if there was a better way that would allow me to just choose photos from an already existing album or something that was not part of the initial project.
You can always add to the original project by dragging photos to this project when browsing events or albums.
the *My Last Project*, I'm not even really sure how that gets populated.  It looks to be the last project I imported or edited, but not really sure.
The "Your Last project" will be the event you browsed last from the "Events" view in the source list.
In most cases flagging will be the best solution - that is what flags are for.

  • Photo titles missing when making a book...

    Hi --
My wife and I are trying to use iPhoto to make several new photo books from our recent wedding photos and we have all the photos organized according to title and film roll (we did both film & digital). They uploaded to the library just fine and all the titles are viewable in the library, but when we go to the "make book" fuction the titles in the upper window above the book layout have disappeared. Since we have all the photos we want to use written down by title, is there any way to view the titles of your photos while in the "make book" function?

    Doug:
Unfortunately not all themes automatically include the titles or comments even though there is a Settings option to do so. What theme are you using?

  • Font style changes when making a book in iphoto

I am trying to make a book and the inner cover I wrote a little about our vacation. I wanted to make the font size larger so I clicked on the settings button below and this window popped up with "cover title:" "Cover Subtitle:" etc with the font style/Plain/and font size. When I went to change the "Flap Body" font size to make it larger to a size 14 and then clicked ok everyone of those options went from Helvetica Neue to the next font in the list which is ugly. I try to set it to Helvetica Neue and then they all change to another font??????? I ended up just doing open apple z to undo to the original. I use iphoto 7.1.4 and I use the 10.4.11 operating system. I have an imac g5 powerpc. It's not a life or death situation but it is annoying that I cannot change the font size of one thing without having it change the font style of all the options. Any suggestion would be great!!

I once overshot the limit by marking too many photos to fit within 99 pages, but I could never figure out how to fool the application and had to give up trying to add those 14 extra photos.
I asked a friend (who practically lives in Terminal) if he had any way of modifying that limit, but he reminded me that if their printing services are set up to bind books and bill for only 99 pages, fooling the application might be useless if the service only prints me a 99 page book and discards the additional pages.
I can understand that you wouldn't want to let people print 1000 page books, but I sent feedback anyway to allow me to increase the limit. Anyone know of any service that lets you print beyond iPhoto's limits?

  • Why "Incomplete Book" warning when making a book?

I begin with Autoflow to distribute photos. Then rearrange to suit and add one or two text pages. But after clicking on "Buy Book" I get the "Incomplete Book" warning. Even after double checking that there are no blank photo spaces, I get the same warning.
Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong

You have a background in one of the pages that's a gray background with palm trees on it. That's actually a frame for using an image for the page's background. Change it to some other color or add a photo to that page.

  • Is there any way to change default layouts when making a book?

I'd like to move thing around on the page. Is there any way?
I'd also like to make a whole picture that is in the ratio of 2x3 print that way, but the program crops the ends to fill the space. Is there some way? (If I just add white to the top and bottom of the file will it print some kind of very light white there?
MacBook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have noticed this too, i.e. the captured background is BMP, and the capture images are PNG. For example, my command line terminal window backgrounds are 4070.57K versus about 32K to 65K when I convert them to PNG files. Our demonstration files can be enormous because of the BMP backgrounds. It would definitely be advantageous to have a recording setting for PNG versus BMP for the backgrounds in Captivate.

  • How do I rotate a layout when making a book?

I want to use the layout using two pictures.  They are both vertical pics, but I can't seem to get it to do anything but landscape.

Did you check to see if there's a layout available  with two portrait photos?  What theme are you using?  What version of iPhoto and system are you running?

  • Book thumbnails show full size missing

Trying to help rebuild some books created in iphoto 6. The originals are backed up but she has over 20,000 all with just numbers. The book page thumbnails show the photos but the full size pages show only a gray box. How do I find out what the original photo number is so I can find the full size picture. When I click on the page full view of the book the photos that show give me the info on the photo but the gray boxes give the generic info of the book. If I could get the photo number from the thumbnail it could save me hours.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
By “original photo number” do you mean the file name assigned by the camera - something like IMG_1234.jpg?
Click on the 'i' box lower left and this will open the Info pane which will tell you the filename of the pictures.
However, how did the book lose these pictures? If this is because of database corruption you won't be able to rebuild the book in the same library.

  • Ordering Prints: Thumbnail shows original image and does not show edits. Will edits be printed?

When ordering a print, the thumbnail shows the original image without any iPhoto edits.  Is this a bug?  How can I make sure my prints will come out with edits?

The thumbnail should reflect any edits made unless they were made with a 3rd party editor incorrectly. How did you edit the photos?  With iPhoto or a 3rd party editor?

  • When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

When using Lightroom Book module for Blurb book making, why do I keep getting a low image quality message if it's supposedly accessing my large raw files in my library?

I think I've solved my problem with a Google Search. I came across a free slide show generator
(contributions requested) that shows much higher quality slide shows than either iPhoto or Aperture 3.
You click on a folder of jpegs and it almost immediately generates thumbnails and within a few seconds
I can be viewing a full screen, tack sharp, slideshow of all of the files in the folder. Much sharper than
    I'm used to seeing.
I think I'll keep the Aperture 3 and use if for the purpose it's intended for in the future. I'll also redo the
image preview files to the small size it started with and then I'll copy all of the files I'm interested in from
iPhoto into a separate folder on another disk. I'll use Aperture to catalog and to perform image manipulations
on but I won't try to use it as an iPhoto replacement. I don't think I'll be using iPhoto much as an image
viewer in the future either after I finish moving my favorite pictures to the Phoenix Slides folder.
The name of the free program is Phoenix Slides. It's free to download and try, free to keep (though I
think you'd want to pay the small amount requested) and fast. My pictures have never looked so good
    before.
