When Mavericks was available, I was able to download it, which I did without checking that my Mac (iMac5,1) running 10.7.5 cannot run Mavericks.  However I found that I was having some odd things happening - and asked the Finder for "Mavericks" to see if anything would appear.  The result was a page of 12 items
          1 3SHACK.PDF          1 3SHACK.PDF         1 3SHACK.PDF      index.jspa.html
          maverick.png             maverick.wpn               nav.dat                    os-x-mavericks-2.html
       os-x-mavericks-3.html     os-x-mavericks-4.html      os-x-mavericks-5.html      os-x-mavericks.html
There may be other     Maverick-related  stuff, but can I just trash the above, or is there a better way to restore a pure 10.7.5  ??

I have found, within the Apple site, that I can upgrade my 20inch, late 2006 iMac to 4GB RAM by replacing present RAM with two 2GB SO-Dimm in each of the two slots, although apparently the computer will only ever use a max. of 3GB.
So that would be a start.
On back-up for the 250 GB Hard disc with 100 GB 'available', I have an external hard disc, 500GB but with four partitions, total space available maybe 300GB.
So it looks as if I need a new external HD of probably another 500GB.
Have you any further comments ?  In the meantime I will try to note any of the odd stuff, and postpone further action until after the New Year.
Finally, I have Time Machine on a separate external HD of 500GB, with about 190GB available.
Much appreciate you comments and asistance, meanwhile the Seasn's Greetings and Best wishes for 2014.
