    Delete the App Store app by dragging it and dropping it into the Trash.  Then download and install the appropriate update combo for your version of OS X;

  • I bought macbook pro at cash america used and loaded with windows 7 ultimate by boot camp.My questions is it has mountain lion loaded but original ower has name with password so how can I reload so I can sign on as administrator for downloads and upgrades

I bought a 13 inch macbook pro9.2 at Cash America with windows 7 Ultimate with boot camp program.
The Mac op sytem has Mountain Lion installed but the previous ower has his name and password attached to it and can only use as guest.
My question is how do I get around this to be administrator to reload software so i can use mountain Lion, and not loose the windows op .

If you reformat the partition that contain Mountain Lion and reinstall Mountain Lion, it should not effect the Windows pratition.
Have said that I suggest you backup everything you might want to save just in case.

  • HT1338 After installing mountain lion, my macbook pro (2010ish) crashes every ten minutes. How can I fix this?

Title pretty much says it all. I installed Moutain Lion today and every ten minutes or so no matter what I'm doing my computer freezes up (iTunes always first) and then the entire computer freezes. What can I do to stop this?
I always have to hold down the power button to reboot, nothing else works to make it unfreeze.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click  Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Compress OS X Mountain Lion.app (10.8.4)

Cannot compress Install OS X Mountain Lion.app (10.8.4).  No errors reported during compression but always results in corrupt InstallESD.dmg file.  Bug in Archive Utility??? Using both UnArchiver and Archive Utility to uncompress with same results...

Never had a problem making  zip file  for use on my Mac in all these years. If your not sending these apps to someone over the internet, zip files will work just fine.
I have personally lost data by storing it in zip files. There is no such thing as a standard zip file format. There are dozens of variants. Among those are a number of different ways to store Mac resource data and metadata. The Zip variant that OS X creates with the "compress" feature has, itself, changed a couple of times. There is no guarantee that a Mac file put into a zip file will be recoverable in the future.
If is safe to use Finder's compress, upload, download, decompress for zip files. You can't mix in any other zip tool. Nor will there be any guarantee of extracting the original in five years. The entire zip file format(s) is(are) a hack and hacks have no place in archives.
The DMG format goes back to OS X 1 (and possibly earlier). I have had more problems with DMG file (probably because of damage resourse forks which OSX no loger uses.) I'm sure Apple has over the years updated this and that to the DMG file format. Way back when in the 90's we had a heck of a time getting a uncorrupted zip files over the internt. That when Apple came out with the DMG file format (I believe it had another name).
I have never had a problem with DMG files nor with the older IMG files. I have DMG files that are over 10 years old and open with no problem.
I trust Apple more than Phil Katz.

  • I am not able to upgrade, on my Mac, to Mountain Lion. There is no option in the itunes library for me to download ANY apps onto my computer, only to iphone, ipod, itouch etc. Please help. Thank you

    Thank you

You don't use the iTunes Store for your computer. You use the App Store. But to do so you must upgrade your computer to 10.6.8 provided you have an Intel model.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later.
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model
                 Identifier 5,1 or later.
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later.
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later.
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

Mavericks is an upgraded System in the same way that Mountain Lion was, the difference being that it's free. You can download the installer from the Mac App Store (the system requirements are the same as for Mountain Lion so you should be OK there). I've not got it: reports suggest that it is an improvement over Mountain Lion but it has some quirks that may or may not be an issue for you. It has its own forum, so you could look there for information.

  • Dragging windows in Mountain Lion apps

I have found that document windows in Preview and TextEdit in Mountain Lion cannot be dragged around if a dialog sheet is open. I haven't tested every Mountain Lion app. Terminal does not have this problem, nor do iTunes or Safari.
So when I go to save, and I expand the save sheet to column view, and the columns extend off the screen, I can't move the document window. This can leave columns and buttons permanently offscreen.
    My current workaround is:
    - Escape key to cancle the save/open.
    - Move the window.
    - Retry the save or open and see if the offscreen control or display is now onscreen.
    iMac7,1 running 10.8.2.
I also spent a good 15-20 minutes looking for a bug report page instead of using the community discussions to report this.

    http://bugreport.apple.com/
I wouldn't report it as a bug quite yet, though.  Personally, I can't reproduce the issue as you describe it, not in Preview nor in TextEdit.  In both cases, when the sheet opens and I choose to expand the window (using the arrow in the top-right; you call it Column view) the sheet expands and, if a side would move off the screen, pushes the whole window further into the display so that the whole sheet appears.
But it sounds odd that your sheets are so broad as to move off the side of the display anyway—have you thought about just resizing them so that they aren't so broad?  It's just like resizing any other window.
