If you are not using data and the iPhone goes to sleep, it will automatically drop the wi-fi, and will not reconnect until you wake the phone up. That is the way it is designed. The only way around that is to turn off cellular data while at home and on wi-fi.
Cannot answer the xbox question since this is an iPhone forum and I would have no idea.

  • Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.

Bought a new Ipod touch and the WiFi does not connect.  Tried Reset and total Restore, does not connect to Router on DHCP, tried Static IP, Subnet, Router and DNS manually and still can not get it to connect even though it registers as connected.  Using Airport for router, latest firmware, no problems with Iphone 4 or Macbook Pro or any other internet devices.  After total Restore (factory settings) tried again, showed connected to router, but does not display "check" next to router but little rotating icon even though the wifi range signal shows connected at full strength and it says it is connected.  Just can't seem to get it to generate an IP.  Any solutions other than turning it on and off again?  Not a Merry Christmas morning.

Ok, so, a couple of things:  Denisefromwaleska and I have the exact same size/type/color iPod.  Now wishing I'd bought the black one maybe...
Second, Airport is an Express and I have a second one that I carry with me when I travel.  Tried to connect my Airport Express to the internet and could not although the iPod did recognize the router and tried to connect to the internet for some time, unlike my previous problem.  Updated firmware on my travel router, still could not connect to the internet.  Going to try to set up a manual Static IP on the travel router here in a few and conect through it although I predict the problem will persist. Back on the Christmas Present Airport Express router, it is back in play and working fine for all devices save the iPod.
Thanks again for all your help, hopefully I can get a solution in place soon,

  • If i close firefox and try to reopen it tells me its alreasdy running and I have to reboot every time??? WHY IS THIS Please

if I close FireFox and then try to open it again I get a message saying its all ready running and i must close current session and start again or reboot and I always have to reboot ?? Most frustating is there a reason for this I can change settings for

    Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.

  • HT4628 The Wifi does not work when Macbook Air is started by Win8. How to let the Wifi work in Win8 ?

    Hi all,
WIFI of Macbook Air works when the notebook started with OS X.
But when I restart the Macbook Air with Win8, the Wifi does not work.
The Macbook Air was bought last month. It is new model. The wifi may be a/c.
    Thanks,

hey zyzzyxx, you're not the only one with this issue. it happens to me too. as soon as i unplug my cintiq via thunderbolt display my connection shoots straight back to having 20mbps down. i checked it using a speedtest.
ever find a fix for it?

  • Firefox won't let me update. It tells me I have to reboot each time to finish a earlier update. I tried three times.

When I try to update a popup screen tells me that I need to reboot to complete a previous update. I have rebooted three times and keep getting the same message.

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much.  Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it.  I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names.  isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)
either way, ill do what you suggested to the best of my abilities and thank you so much for answering my questions, i can't even open the program as its incompatible and find out the info from that) so I'm in a bit of a pickle and your response was so thorough and it didn't seem to be posted long enough to even write a well researched response, thanks, all the best,

  • Why is my internet connection so slow and I have to refresh each time to read my email

Why does it take so long to access my email or any internet pages....ALSO, when I am in my email, I have to "refresh" each and every time I want to read an email in my INbox.
Sometimes I wait 5 min to connect to my email

wilbur 46 - Have you tried the more general suggestions above?
You should post your problem separately with full details of your extensions and plug-ins. You'll then get systematic troubleshooting advice.
You could try starting in Safe Mode - hold down the Shift Key as you double click on the Firefox icon. If that works better you should try to identify any culprit extensions by a process of elimination.

  • Connection lost when my MacBook goes to sleep

Why do I lose my connection when my computer is idle for a matter of minutes? What can I do to alleviate this problem?

There are numerous notes on these Apple forums on this problem. I had the same problem with two different Linksys routers (using WEP encryption). I finally solved one problem with an older router by updating the router's firmware. Just solved the problem with my newer WRT54GL router by following these MacFixIt instructions:
Open System Preferences and select the "Network" pane
    Select "AirPort" and click "Configure"
In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for "AirPort network password" entries. Delete them.
Restart, or log out then back in.
Repeat steps 1-3, this time re-adding your regularly used AirPort networks to the list using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in

  • The internet coming from my AirPort Extreme, which is extended by an AirPort Express and my Time Capsule, is being very flaky. It is dropping and I have to reconnect every few minutes. Any solutions?

To be more detailed, my AirPort Extreme needs to be extended by an AirPort Express, which then is extended to my personal Time Capsule. The internet drops on my MacBook Pro and other MacBook Pros randomly. We then reconnect with no problem and go on with what we were doing. The internet is fine. Always able to connect. We have Open DNS set up as well. But the flaky internet is annoying. Any ideas how to fix this?

The primary issue that you will need to contend with is the distance between routers. 300' would be at the fringe of the signal coming from the base station located in the house which, most likely, make it too "weak" to extend/repeat with the second base station at the shop.
There is a method to configure a relay base station between them in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), but a WDS has two major drawbacks: 1) It can only operate in the 802.11g Radio Mode, and 2) For every base station participating in the WDS, the overall bandwidth will be cut in half .., so with a total of three (main, relay, & remote), the maximum of 54 Mbps (for 802.11g) would be more like 15-17 Mbps. If you plan on streaming HD video (either 720p or 1080p), your local wireless network may not have enough bandwidth to do so successfully.
You proposal to run the DSL line to the shop does offer another option. Instead of running a DSL line, run an Ethernet cable between the house and the shop. You would connect one end to any of the available LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme to the Ethernet port on the AirPort Express. You can then configure both base stations into a roaming network and not have bandwidth loss of the WDS.

  • The pictures I'm trying to transfer from my camera are just a gray photo and a message says they are in an unrecogized format.I have version 8.1.2 Iphoto '09 any solutions?

The pictures I'm trying to transfer from my camera to Iphoto are coming up blank with a message saying they are in an unrecognized format.  I see others have the same problem but I haven't found a solution that works. Any ideas?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

I have a 2011 macbook pro. This happens on my son's as well. he has the same model. he recently got a new retina display macbook and there hasn't been any problems. this doesn't happen on our phones either.
    -Thanks for any help

In addition to my own post, here are the correct link.

  • Why does my Ipad keep going black and then back to the apple logo.  It eventually goes to the start page but then blacks out again.  I have already rebooted several times with no luck!!

Why does my Ipad 2 keep going black ahd back to the apple logo.  It eventually goes to the home screen and allows me to try something else but after about 30 seconds it happens again.  I have already rebooted several times?

Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • Macbook goes to sleep randomely when connected to Apple LED Display

I have  an issue with my Macbook Pro (2009 model) when it's connected to my 27' Apple LED Display. For no apparent reason that I can tell, it just goes to sleep at random, and after I wake it up by pressing a key (bluetooth keyboard), the mouse cursor looks messed up:
It might be a bit hard to tell from the blurry photo (I don't know of a way to take a screenshot with the cursor, so I used my iPhone), but it's too halves of the spinning beachball.
There's nothing in the console's log that indicates the reason for switching to sleep mode. It's also not the magnets of the Macbook pro used to detected when the lid is closed (I'm using the NoSleep utility that prevents that behavior). I've already tried resetting the PRAM. Also, this behavior never happens when the macbook isn't connected to the external display, so that probably aint a heating problem either (also the temperature readings are all in bounds).
Any help would be very appreciated, as that thing is driving me crazy.

    Jon,
Along the lines of my comment in your other thread. The battery connection cable between the logic board and the battery is also known as the "sleep/switch" connector. This little cable not only communicates battery power to & from the machine but also has a handle on regulating the machine's sleep process (and wake from sleep).
I've seen several MacBooks that have come across my work bench which are suffering from this exact issue you're describing and we're remedied by replacing that cable.
The component I'm referring to is this one-

  • Macbook goes to sleep constantly when battery is installed

Hi, I have a black Macbook 13" The computer runs fine when it is running on AC with no battery installed. The minute I install the battery ( While the AC is still connected) it starts to go to sleep, I wake it and before I can even start to use it, it goes to sleep again, and again. I take the battery out, and it is normal.
I should note that I am running Snow Leopard
    I tried different batteries. Nothing.
I reset both the Pram and SMC and nothing.
Anyone know what the quick fix is?
    Thanks
