When opeing an MOV file il Premiere elements 11 I get audio, but no picture....help?

At face value, the H.264.mov file should import into your Premiere Elements 11. By the way, on what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
The key initial question is "Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements 11?" That is a must do.
As a double check, please go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime and assure that you see presets included for that choice. If not, sure thing, QuickTime issue. Just a reminder if you have not been there before - you need to scroll down the list of Publish+Share/Computer/ choices to reach QuickTime toward the bottom of the list. See thin scroll bar to the right of the list.
We will be watching for your follow up.
Thank you.

How do add .mov files in Premiere Elements 11 with Windows 8? I get a generic error message.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your quick response. The original movies were taken on a Canon ES970 (1990's). I don't know the resolution but things were not as high tech back then.,.. I used a Roxio software to convert them on my MacBook Air. I didn't realize that I could use Adobe Premiere Elements to do that or I would have. However my old camera did not have a cable to attach it to a computer and the Roxio software came with it.
I then saved the recordings on an external hard drive. I did not make movies from them using iMovie or edit them in any way. They are simply .MOV files and they can be played on my Mac. Upon realizing how much memory it takes to work on videos, I decided it might be easier to burn DVD's on my husband's  new Dell desktop that came with Windows 8. I downloaded Quicktime as suggested and still the movies can't be added to Premiere.

  • Problem importing some .MOV files into Premiere Elements 11

    Hello,
I am trying to import film footage into Premiere Elements 11 and am coming across a rather confusing problem. All of the footage is in .mov format and all of it was taken on the same device on the same day with the same settings.
When I try to import the footage, some files import ok, others will not import at all and I get a message saying 'The importer reported a generic error'. It seems very odd to me that some .MOV files are OK and others are not.
This same footage can easily be imported into Premiere Elements 10 and into Windows Movie Maker - which makes me think the issue is with Premiere Elements 11.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?
    Thanks

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? Did you use Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?

  • Error when adding .MOV file to Premiere Elements 10

Im trying to add videos taken on my ipad to a new project in Premier Elements 10, but I get this error:  Add Media Failure = The importer reported a generic error.
I've read that .mov is just some sort of container and I might need to download a codec of some sort.  Has anybody already solved this problem and can just dumb it down for me?  Im new to all this - its just a hobby, so Im not very technical.
    Thanks!

If you open the MOV in Media Info or G Spot, what does it show as its resolution, frame rate and codec?
    http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
As you've said, the MOV suffix itself doesn't tell you much. Inside that package could be any of hundreds of possible codecs, most of which won't digest well in Premiere Elements.
Meantime, are you on a Mac or PC? What operating system are you using? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime on your machine, per the program's requirements?

  • Working with converted .mov files in Premiere Elements 2

I recently got a digital camera that records .mov clips with H.264 technology. I use it for back up when Im having problems with my regular camcorder. Of course I can work with these .mov files in QuickTime Pro with no problem. But in order to work with them in Premiere Elements 2, it appears I have to export it into the .avi format first. After exporting in QuickTime Pro, when I bring the new .avi file up into Premiere Elements, the color quality is retained, but much of the resolution is lost. Its very pixelated. I understand that .avi and .mov work differently in the way information is stored avi in chunks and mov in streams, but Im wondering if there is a way I can work around this. The reason why I got QuickTime Pro initially was to be able to convert my finished .avi videos made in Premiere Elements 2 into MPEG-4 files using the H.264 codec for better quality. And Im doing that all the time now with no problem. So I am wondering if when I reconvert the .mov clip thats been converted into .avi back into mpeg-4, will the resolution be restored? That is part of my question. The other part is regarding the initial conversion process. Are there settings in QuickTime Pro for converting .mov to .avi with as little loss in resolution as possible? The manual doesnt address this issue specifically. Any ideas or suggestions? OS is Windows XP Media Center edition, computer Sony Vaio dual processor. Thanks, Judy

Hi again Steve. I'm so embarrassed. After my initial reply to your message I went to the Adobe site to see if they even made Premiere for Mac and learned they don't. I also read a review in Wired that says Premiere 6 is just as good if not better than iMovie which they say has actually been downgraded. I'm using Premiere 2, so I thought I might consider upgrading. Then I watched "Steve's Story" and realized it was you. (Your daughter is a cutie! Adobe must love you.) So my question is this: Would my problem be solved by simply upgrading to Premiere 4? If I do that, would it be compatible with regard to catalog integration with Photoshop Elements 4 or would I have to upgrade to Elements 6? If I upgraded the whole package would my current Photoshop Elements 4 catalog transfer with all tags intact? This is vital for me to know because I rely on them heavily. I realize that I would be skipping a version in the upgrade. Is that possible? Does that matter? Please read my reply to Bill because it explains why I want to use those particular .mov files. Another question for you. I use your excellent book a lot. If I upgrade will it become useless? Finally, since you're the expert, let me tell you what I'm really aiming for and get your advice. I need to start composing my own musical soundtracks to my videos. I want to do it as I'm viewing the timeline. Therefore, I know I need to invest in a midi-capable keyboard or controller and software. The problem is that there are few controllers compatible with Windows XP Media Center Edition. I am told I would need to disable the XP Media Center registry keys for anything to work which wouldn't matter because I don't use Media Center features anyway (like TV hookup, media player, etc.). But messing with the registry sounds a little complex and dangerous to me. There's got to be an easier way. Do you have any advice or recommendations? Can you point me to any helpful resources? Now you see why I want a Mac? Everyone says all this kind of stuff would be so much easier with a Mac. Problem is I have a limited budget and would like to make the most with what I have. I hope I haven't overtaxed you with my questions. Thanks for your patience! Judy

  • Cannot import .MOV files with Premiere Elements 12: generic error. Using Windows 8.1 (64b)

This question was already on the forum for older version of Premiere and Windows. I'm making my videos (.MOV format) with the digital camera Casio EX-ZR400.
I have no any problems with Photoshop Elements 12 for pictures produced by this camera.

What is the source of your .mov file..(brand/model/settings of the camera that recorded the video)......what is the video and audio compression and frame rate?
Are you working with the 12.1 Update of 12? If not, please do so using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. Both QuickTime and Premiere Elements need to be run from a User Account with Administrative Privileges. Are you doing that?
    Narrowing things down
Are all files with the .mov file extensions the only video files that you cannot import into the program? Any exceptions?
When you open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace and go to Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime, does that choice have its presets?
Let us start here and decide what next based on your reply.
    Thank you.

  • No sound in .mov file in premiere elements 8

hi, i'm running premiere elements 8 in windows xp.  i have several clips i wanted to edit that were given to me by a friend.  they are in .mov file format.  when i play them using quicktime they play perfectly, sound video everything.  when i import them into elements though the video plays fine, but there is no sound.  i even tried to edit one and then save it to my drive, but there was no sound in the file.  what is the solution?  thanks in advance for help.

.MOV files are not edited natively in PE and will present a number of issues, all or most of them will equate to heartache and depression.

  • When I import .mts files into Premiere 7 the audio is intermittent?

Good afternoon. I am new to this forum and your help would be appreciated. I have recently purchased a Sony Hard Drive Camcorder X105E and I have done my first filming. When I import the files into Premiere Elements 7 and preview them the audio is intermittent on playback. What am I doing wrong cause I cant figure it out?
Thanks in advance for your answers

OK, on the I/O, you have one, nicely sized, physical HDD. You don't have it partitioned, do you?
With one physical HDD, so many things are happening at the same exact time:
1.) your OS is reading/writing to it
2.) your program is reading/writing to it
3.) your media is being read from it
4.) your OS's Virtual Memory is probably being used, so it's reading/writing to it
The problem is that all of these (plus possibly some other programs/Processes) are fighting to get their data handled at the same time. Each is telling the HDD that it needs the heads in one place on a platter. Same for the next program, and the next. Unfortunately, regardless of the speed of the HDD and the speed of the controller, the heads can only be in one place at one time.
Especially for the Audio (that is more I/O intensive, than the Video usually is - it taxes the CPU much more), you will benefit from more physical HDD's.
I just posed an ARTICLE in the Tips & Tricks sub-forum. It links to two articles by Harm Millard. His article on HDD setup is a gem. Now, it takes things to a professional NLE level, and few are quite ready for that, still the info is good. Much can be extrapolated from his suggestions. Though he lists the ultimate Video editing setup, many concepts can be applied on a smaller scale. You might want to read over the linked articles. They will give you some things to think about.
Also, I just saw an ad for a 1TB WD ATA-300 HDD for US$ 79.00 at Fry's Electronics. While you may need an ATA-100, this shows how far prices have fallen. I've got an ATA-100 1TB, to augment my 4x1TB SATA II's, and it's not that old. I paid US$ 400 for it! Should have waited, but then I've used it for the last year, so all is not lost.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

Panasonic .MOV files only play audio no video in Premiere Elements 11??? Not Working Help

It all depends on the codec the file uses, Karli.
What model of camcorder is this video coming from?
Are you working on a Mac or a PC? Have you got the latest version of Quicktime, per the program requirements? When you started your project, did you select the settings for a DSLR at 720p? This is a vital step since it will activate the components your computer will need to work with many of these types of files.
    BY THE WAY, KARLI--
PLEASE do not post the same question more than once on this forum! You've already got a thread going with this same question and several responses posted. It's very confusing when you post the same question a second time and start a whole new discussion.

  • I am trying to edit a .mov video in Premiere Elements 12, but the video and audio do not sync.  They work fine when played in Quicktime.

    Hello,
I am trying to edit a .mov video in Premiere Elements 12, but the video and audio do not sync as soon as I load it into the program.  It appears to work fine in Quicktime.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. This is the plan.
Open Premiere Elements 12/12.1 to the Expert workspace.
In the Expert workspace, go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
In the Change Settings area, select the project preset
    NTSC
    AVCHD
    AVCHD LITE 720p30
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that appears, note that it has your new project preset named.
Be sure to put a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". And, then OK out of there.
Back in the Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, use Add Media/Files and Folders to bring your video
into Project Assets. From Project Assets drag your video to the Timeline Video Track 1/Audio Track 1.
Is there an orange line over the content in the Timeline. See screenshot for orange line to which I am referring.
There should be no colored line over the content if the project preset matches the video properties. But, if you do see
that orange line, then render the Timeline content by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard or press
the Render button above the Timeline.
Do your video/audio now play back in the Edit area monitor in sync?
Please let us know the result, and then we will decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • Video distortion when importing MOV file into Premiere Pro

On my mac my premiere is having issues when I import .Mov files. I was shooting on my Canon 70D DSLR at 30frames and when I import files the playback breaks up and is distorted at various points. It doesn't seem like all the files are doing this only some of them have this problem when they are imported. The footage was all shot under the same settings in the same 3 hour period. I tried exporting files and the distortion is still present in the exported media file. I've attached a screen shot of what it looks like.

Interesting that it's on the same frames ... have you certain effects that would impact those more than others?
Also ... only 8Gb RAM, sounds like one internal that's pretty much stuffed, and footage on an external ... PrPro runs a ton of crap through both the CPU & the GPU (depending on what you're doing and how much it "likes" your GPU/Vram)  and also writes massive files to the database, media cache, and through the CPU use the OS's system cache typically. You've got a LOT of readin'/writin' going on, and with only 40Gb free there's not a lot of free space for things to be just parked for random access in a moment or two.
Also curious ... what's the connection to the external? USB2 or 3? Thunderbolt? eSATA?

  • How can i open a .prel file in premiere elements 11?

    Hello Community
Yesterday i created a clip with premiere elements 11 and i saved it as .prel file.
Today i wanted to open this file to go on working on my clip but i couldn't open the .prel file.
When i try to open this file, my premiere elements 11 says that it doesn't support this kind of file or it's in a wrong codec.
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
    Can anyone help me out?

    nikank
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
A very likely possibility that should be explored first. Please move the clips to exactly where they were when you
imported them into the project. When you import your source media into a project, all you get in the project are copies of the
originals. And, those copies need to trace back to the originals at the hard drive save location where
they were when first imported into the project.
Under the condition that you describe, even if the project did open, you should be greeted by several "Where is the file_____?" messages
that you would have to deal for the reconnects.
Other complications may be involved but let us start with the obvious one.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • How do i edit move file in pre elements

I shot in a canon 60d  the footage is not supported in pre elements ,how do i edit move file in pre elements

    issac
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
When you write "move" file, do you mean "movie" file?
Do you have QuickTime installed on your computer along with Premiere Elements? If not, please do so.
Generalizing because you did not give all the details, I would say that the Canon 60D AVCHD.mov file should be supported by
Premiere Elements as long as you have QuickTime installed on the same computer with Premiere Elements.
Please review and consider and supply more details.
We will be watching for the details.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? Can we assume that this audio plays back OK
on the same computer when you are using a computer player independent of Premiere Elements?
What are the properties of these clips that worked before but do not know with regard to sound
For now, I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you checked the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings? Do you have any 3rd party audio devices incorporated in your computer environment?
Please delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, then the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. The Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit path is
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and, in the 12.0 Folder, is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Do you have installation files or installation disc with the purchased serial number in case we need to resort to uninstall/reinstall?
