When opening a new tab, how do I default to my home page?

When I manually open a new tab I always get a blank window. I want the new tab to default to my home page when I open it. IE does this, why not Firefox?

You can do that by using an add-on such as:
* NewTabURL - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/newtaburl
* New Tab Homepage - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/new-tab-homepage
Another way of opening the home page in a new tab is to middle click on the home button in the navigation toolbar.

  • When opening a new tab, how to set default site

    I want my default website to be google each time I open a new tab. Somehow, my new tabs are opening as defaulted to bing.

    Is there a simple way to have a new tab open to a default website or does it require the add-on? It seems like this should be a standard option.

  • Running Firefox 4.0 - but when I hit new tab it does not default to my home page, how do I fix?

    In the earlier version I had of Firefox 3. something-can't remember now, whenever I opened up a new tab it automatically opened up in my home page "Bing" http://www.bing.com. Now when I open a new tab, it's simply a blank page. How do I get it to open the Bing page automatically whenever I open a new tab?
    Thanks.

    A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
    If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

    You can middle-click or hold down Ctrl and left-click the Home button on the Navigation toolbar to open the Home page in a new tab.

  • When opening a new tab, how can you make the cursor automatically go to the address bar?

    In my previous version of firefox, the cursor would go directly to the address bar when I opened a new tab. Thus, I could start typing the web address I wanted to go to immediately. However I upgraded to Firefox 4 today and I now have to manually click in the address bar. Is there any way to change this in settings or by installing a specific add-on?
    Thanks!

    You only get the cursor in the search bar if you open the built-in about:home page.<br />
    For other websites you need an extension.

  • When opening a new tab, how do I make firefox automatically switch to it?

    Pressing Control+T or the "+" button next to tabs will open the new tab. However, I want the new tab to be automatically selected when it is generated.
    Right clicking links and Opening in new tab works fine.

    For me, it was caused by the Fox Tab add on. I disable it and the 'problem' goes away, enable it and it's back..
    I guess Fox Tab (1.4.2b) is not (fully) compatible with Firefox 5 yet.

  • When opening a new tab, how can I change the page that is initially displayed?

    When I open a new tab, the page that is initially displayed is one that provides a simple Bing! search. What can I do to make the initial display one of my own choosing?

    Select Firefox (Top left) / Options/ Options / Main or General.
    There you can select the thing you whant firefox to do when it is started up. If you would like it to open www.google.com for instance, you have to paste that url (= www.google.com) into the space below.
    That's it!

  • When opening a new tab, how do i costumize what page opens? i would like it to open to either a blank page or to Google.

    after opening up my web browser to goggle, a new tab open up to a generic page: Internet Search. i would like it to either open to just a blank page or to goggle. how do i change this.

    New tabs open with a blank page by default. If you want a web page to open in a new tab then you need an extension.
