When opening Apple Mail links 2 Firefox Windows Open, The top one is blank and the one behind it contains the web link page???

Whether with previous version of Firefox, or new one (3.6.4), when I open an Apple Mail link, Firefox opens 2 windows. Top window is blank, window behind it contains web page for mail link that I hit. I can't find anything in preferences of mail or Firefox to resolve this issue.
This happened
Every time Firefox opened

I have discovered one solutionto my problem, which is not really convenient and is something I don't have to do with Safari 5 -- If I have Firefox open, but not a window open, then when I click on an Apple Mail link, only 1 window opens. But I don't always want to have my browser open, so this is kinda annoying. I'd rather not use Safari -- Firefox is so much better. Please fix this! Thanks.

• When I have a 2nd Firefox window open, my bookmark toolbar is empty, as well as there is an additonal bar above where the exit and minimize buttons are. There is also a black bar where the minimize and exit button are.

-> Tap ALT key or press F10 to show the Menu Bar
-> go to Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"
Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Now do this:
-> go to View Menu -> Toolbars -> select Menu Bar and Navigation ToolBar -> unselect All Unwanted toolbars
-> go to View Menu -> Sidebar -> select Bookmarks
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Content -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Block Pop-up windows 2) Load images automatically 3) Enable JavaScript
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Privacy -> History section -> Firefox will: select "Use custom settings for history" -> REMOVE Checkmark from "Permanent Private Browsing mode" -> place CHECKMARKS on:
1) Remember my Browsing History 2) Remember Download History 3) Remember Search History 4) Accept Cookies from sites -> select "Exceptions..." button -> Click "Remove All Sites" at the bottom of "Exception - Cookies" window
4a) Accept Third-party Cookies -> under "Keep Until" select "They Expire"
-> REMOVE CHECKMARK from CLEAR HISTORY WHEN FIREFOX CLOSES
-> go to Tools Menu -> Options -> Security -> place Checkmarks on:
1) Warn me when sites try to install add-ons 2) Block reported attack sites 3) Block reported web forgeries 4) Remember Passwords for sites
-> Click OK on Options window
-> click the Favicon (small drop down menu icon) on Firefox SearchBar (its position is on the Right side of the Address Bar) -> click "Manage Search Engines" -> select all Unwanted Search Engines and click Remove -> click OK
-> go to Tools Menu -> Add-ons -> Extensions section -> REMOVE All Unwanted/Suspicious Extensions (Add-ons) -> Restart Firefox
You can enable your Known & Trustworthy Add-ons later. Check and tell if its working.

• I downloaded Firefox version 4.0.1 today on a windows vista PC, and now I can't access firefox at all. I try to open it, but no firefox windows open up. Is there a way to fix this?

But when I try to uninstall the programme to try and download it again, it won't let me because it says firefox is still running, yet no windows are open.

I found that if I had a complicated session (lots of tabs open) that Firefox had trouble opening the first time (it has been fine since). To fix this I deleted my session files in my Profile after making a copy of them.
Here's how if you're still having trouble:
On Windows, your Profile is in "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" - paste that into the Run menu (Windows key + r) and look for session.rdf, sessionstore.bak and sessionstore.js. Delete those, restart Firefox and you should be on your home page. Good luck!

• Can Firefox be configured to open most-recenlty-active Firefox window when you click a link in another application? Am using multiple profiles.

I think this is really a feature request, but I didn't see a forum for that. I used to use firefox almost exclusively, but switched to chrome when I started freelancing for a couple of different companies -- the identities feature of chrome really helps me keep my sanity by having a unique identity for each company. However, an issue has recently developed with chrome that made me switch back to firefox. The profiles feature in firefox seems to have gotten a lot better since I made the first switch, and I'm pretty happy with how it works ... with one exception:
With firefox, clicking on a link in a different application always opens in the default profile. With Chrome, it would always open in the browser window that was most recently active. This is a very intuitive behavior, as whatever I am doing in the other application (e.g. thunderbird, evernote, skype) is almost always related to whichever browser window I had opened last.
Any chance of this getting implemented? Or maybe there's already a way to do this? I found the following related topics, but neither helped with this question:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/981608?esab=a&as=aaq
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/983341?esab=a&as=aaq

I just switched back to Fx from Chrome after using Chrome for about 2 years.
I use two profiles with Chrome, one for work and another one is personal. They don't share anything which is exactly why I have two profiles and not just two windows. I found an extension for Fx to easily open two instances of Fx with different profiles but all links open in the same instance, which is not how it worked with Chrome.
With Chrome, whichever window was active last is getting the link which makes it perfect for multi-desktop use (on Mac OS X). I'm quite upset and annoyed that Firefox cannot do that. Isn't there *some* way?

• How do I block an ad that opens up a new Firefox window and keeps telling me my system performance is poor? I can't even capture the link.

This particular ad, supposedly from a Windows Certified Partner, opens in a second Firefox window and keeps flashing the message that my System Performance is Poor, wanting me to click on their ad and let them do whatever nasty things they want to my system. I have not been able to capture the path but next time it comes up, I will write down all that I can see.
If I have closed my main Firefox screen first, and then close out this ad, the next time I open Firefox, the ad opens and all my standard tabs are gone, requiring me to reopen each one seperately (Facebook, Google, etc).

Just to address the last point: check your History menu to see whether you have the Restore Previous Session option and use that if you can. If that is grayed out or doesn't restore everything, check the Recently Closed Windows and Recently Closed Tabs lists for other pages.
The unwanted window may be generated by an add-on. Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Any improvement?
Here are some other things to check:
(1) user.js file that changes Firefox startup behavior and overrides your preferences. This article describes how to track that down and delete it if you have one: How to fix preferences that won't save.
(2) Possible hijacked shortcut. Check the "target" of the desktop icon you use to start Firefox to see whether it lists the unwanted page. To do that:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
For 64-bit Windows 7, the Target should be no more and no less than this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
(3) Possible undisclosed bundle items. If you have installed any free software recently, check your Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program for surprises. If you click the "Installed on" column head to group by date, it is easier to spot bundled junk. Remove everything suspicious or unrecognized.
(4) Supplemental clean up scans. Our support article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
Hopefully that cures it.

Assuming you have these accounts set up in Mail, open preferences and under Accounts tab, edit the SMTP outgoing server list. Do you have a .mac address in the list? If so, delete it.
Are you using iCloud?
For the troubled account, select the correct SMTP server for that account in the box and check the box to use only that server with that account.

Firefox add-ons take some memory. This amount varies depending on the add-on.
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.

Does this decrease the memory usage? Please report back soon.

• When I click on Firefox for the first time after I boot my PC it takes three minutes to but after that new Firefox windows open promptly.

Hello and thank you for being available to receive this enquiry.
I like Mozilla.
I like Firefox.
In recent months I have experienced and accumulation of problems. Today (September 25th, 2011) I have set about trying to deal with them.
After consulting your Troubleshooting Section I have made a range of changes that I hope shall resolve problems like freezing, unresponsive scripts, non responding windows and browser crashes.
At the time of writing I have rebooted after making those changes so I have yet to discover whether they solve those problems.
However, I have chosen o write now as I already am re-experiencing the first problem I encounter when I boot my PC, i.e. Firefox takes three minutes at least to start after I click the icon. Once it has started, however, ne Firefox windows open promptly.
How do I solve this? I rememebr a time when Firefox opened with lightning speed whenever I clicked the icon.
Thank you for your valued help and interest.
Patrick O' D.

Hello Patrick O' D,
In my experience t here are two different problems with the speed of firefox on startup
# your os and setup
# firefox - and exactly what you use with it
Some factors will be down to your OS and for instance what does start up initially, many of those factors will affect other programmes/applications and not only firefox.
Some other factors depend on Firefox and how you set that up, I always like to have the option to using Firebug but realise it cold clash with other software or slow down firefox startup so I only enable it as I need it. see for instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/performance/

• All minized firefox windows open when I open a new window

I have several firefox windows open and minimized. When I try to open a new firefox window, all the minimized windows open and are displayed. I am running firefox 8. How can I correct this so that the minimized window remain minimized when I open a new window?
Running Windows XP.

That issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly (possibly Ask.com toolbar).
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

• When I open Firefox another separate Firefox window opens with an ad. How do I stop this?

Since Firefox upgraded to 3.6.12 I have been having a separate Firefox window open everytime I open up Firefox. This separate window has some kind of advertisement. I click on that separate page to close it out and sometimes it also closes out the original I opened up, sometimes it doesn't. It is getting very frustrating to have these other sites just open up and I have to keep closing them out. I have checked my pop-up blocker and it is turned on...but this really is not a pop-up. So how do I get these advertisements to stop showing up?

Sounds like Malware.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have. (Not all programs detect the same Malware.)

• I cannot open Yahoo Mail in Firefox - It works just fine with all other browsers

When I try to open Yahoo Mail in Firefox, it times out.
This happens every single day.
Every once in awhile I get lucky and get in, but again, I have to deal with this issue every single day.
Yes, I've dumped the cookies and Cache
Yes, I've switched to No Proxy
Yes, I go through straight links and not bookmarks
Nothing helps.
Basically, if I want to get into Yahoo Mail, I have to open Google Chrome. Which has me thinking, if I have to open Google Chrome so often, why don't I just switch?
I'm a long time user of Firefox and would prefer to stick with it, but this is the kind of thing that will push me over to using Google Chrome.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.
Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.
You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.
It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Are there any setting or some way to show notifications for new email without open Apple Mail app ?
You know , I am an OCD . I alway's close my Mail app and miss many important new emails .

What I do is open the Mail.app, then click the red traffic light (upper left corner of the main Mail.app window) to close that window. The app itself will remain running and you will get updates - this helps keep the desktop tidy while while the mail app remains running. When an update is received, simply click the either the mail icon in your dock or go to the Mail.app menu and click Window > Message Viewer.

• Right click to open new firefox window opens in wrong workspace

Right click in Mac Dock to open new firefox window opens in wrong workspace.
When a user is in another workspace than the Firefox window, right clicking the Firefox icon in the dock and pressing New Window, should create a new window in the current workspace, Not the work space firefox is already running in.

To be absolutely honest, I can't ever remember a time where this worked in Firefox. I don't think the issue is related to the issue you mentioned, unless this particular issue only occurs if you have a dual-monitor-setup (I do have dual-monitors).
Firefox currently behaves differently to all native Mac apps + most Mac apps that support multiple windows.

Can access Yahoo, but Can't open Yahoo Mail in Firefox. Can open Yahoo Mail on Internet Explorer. Checked Password.

PROBLEM: This is the error I get when I simply try to open an email in Firefox. File not found Firefox can't find the file at http://us.mg1.mail.yahoo.com/dc/blank.html?bn=555&.intl=us&.lang=en-US. * Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors. * Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
I contacted Yahoo and they had me clear (1) cookies and (2) cache. This did work so that I can now open the emails in Firefox.
COMMENTS:
Yahoo support said "Please rest assured that Yahoo! Mail is properly working as of this time. It would be best if you contact Mozilla Firefox help support. They have the right tools and knowledge with the settings to access Internet Sites like Yahoo! Mail on Mozilla Firefox browser."
I'd like to know what to do to prevent this in the future because I've had this issue twice now in the last few weeks.
