When opening Firefox I get a Transparent window that shows my Desktop.

It just started happening today. Whenever I open Firefox, it show a blank, transparent window. I cant click on anything at all.

Thanks heaps for the quick reply. After I sent you the email the firefox home page came up, so it seems to be all fixed as this is my work computer I will see what happens tomorrow. My server is Optus Australia and if the server was down would I still be able to get emails?

  • Each time I open Firefox, I get a popup window that says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible." But I have updated Firefox.

But I have updated Firefox. And if I tell it to do the update, it runs and runs and runs but nothing ever happens. It has a 'view more information about this update' link but the link does not work.

According to your user agent string you are not using the latest version of Firefox. It shows you have version 4.0, the latest version is 4.0.1
In the Help menu select "About Firefox", this should check for updates and then let you install the latest version.
If that does not work, try downloading the latest version from http://www.mozilla.com/ then installing it over your current version.

My only option is to click okay in the Error Message Box, but Firefox will not open then.

This can be caused by an add-on that says it is compatible with Firefox 4 but isn't quite compatible. • When I try to open Firefox, I get a message saying that firefox is already currently running, although it is not running. Close and try again or restart computer. How can I fix this?

I always close Firefox when I am finished with the web. When I try to open it later, I often get a message saying that firefox is currently running, so close it first. As far as I can tell, firefox is not running. The message then says to restart your computer and try again. I restart my computer and then firefox opens.

  • When opening firefox I get, Can't connect to server on my homepage, but I can then open websites from my bookmarks. How can I resolve this?

I get a long load time when I open firefox 35. Then cannot connect to server, however i can then open websites fine via my bookmarks list. Tries reinstalling, did not help, made google my homepage in options, does not help.

Does this happen every time? Or is it only when your computer is first turned on/waken up?
If you open another browser (Internet Explorer/Chrome/...) does it do the same thing?
I might be that your computer takes a few seconds to (re-)establish its network connectivity after sleeping. Try this
    #Click Start
    #Type Computer Management
#Click the first result or push enter
    #Click '''Device Manager'''
    #Expand network adapters
#Right click on your network adapter then click '''Properties'''
    #Click on '''Power Management'''
#Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

That is a problem with the Skype extension.<br />

  • I am getting a pop-up when opening Firefox. "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update as soon as possible". BUT, when I "click" on it, it never makes the update?

A bar keeps moving across the page as if the update is being installed, but it never completes the install. Instead, it just keeps going on and on. I have left it going for over an hour & it still doesn't update? HELP PLEASE! If it is important, I want to get it updated as soon as possible. I've already been trying for over a week.

  • I am running 4.0 version, and each time I open Firefox, I get a software update that says "Downloading Firefox / connecting to the update server", but it just STICKS there??? Why is this happening?

I am running Firefox 4.0 version, but for some reason, it tries to download updates and then gets stuck on trying to connect to the update server. This has been happening the past few days. When I close the update, I can proceed in Firefox without incident (that I know of).

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.

  • When I open Firefox, the browser does not open. Instead I get a small window that says: TypeError: Components.classes[cid] is undefined. How do I fix this?

I tried to uninstall AVG antiviral software, but it did not uninstall. Next, when I try to open Firefox I get a box popup that says:
    TypeError: Components.classes[cid] is undefined.
If I click OK in that box, I can then open Firefox.
Also I can no longer update Java.
    Help!

Possibly you have "AVG Safe search" extension installed as part of "AVG Free", solution involves reinstalling :AVG Free" without the Link Scanner component see
