When opening Firefox one of my homepages is often replaced by the new tab.

For the last several versions of Firefox one of my two homepages on opening the browser is frequently replaced by a new tab; clicking on the home icon always opens the missing homepage (along with a second copy of the other one that is open), but this is now getting annoying. I was hoping an update would fix the problem, but of course this has not happened.
The problem began several FF versions ago just about the same time I updated CCleaner, so I considered the possibility that the latter was deleting something that interferred with my FF tabs; after having uninstalled that version of CCleaner, however, and reinstalled the previous one - the use of which had never coincided with the tab problem - the continued issue with the new tab was clearly not due to CCleaner, so I could only assume that the problem was with FF itself. (Note: I had not installed any new plug-ins or extensions at the time the problem began.)
Thanks.

Hello All.
I cannot be sure if it is related, or indeed is the cause of the problem with the new tab, but in the last couple of days it has become evident that Google has been modifying some pages, including the Gmail logon page.
1) Yesterday I found that on the logon page the field for the password had gone; the username field was there with a blue button below it saying 'Next', which I had to use to bring up the password field;
2) Today, after attempting to login to my e-mail, I was taken to a security checkup/update page for my account, which I completed - except for providing a 'recovery phone number' - but I was given no way of getting into my e-mail; if I logged out and in again I was again taken to the same security update page. Eventually, I went to a google support page via a search engine and saw a link for Gmail that took me straight into my e-mail - I was still logged in - and I replaced the Gmail address for my Firefox homepage again and now I can get into my e-mail. (Part of my problem here may have been that I refused to give a phone number; the form asked me to complete it by adding a number, which I would have to have verified so I could not fake it, i.e. 01234...)
Given how long I have had the new tab problem - since at least FF32.0 - Google may not be the problem, but changes such as I have described do sometimes take some time and can clearly cause problems. Are any of you Gmail users?
Ian.

  • When opening firefox to my Yahoo homepage, all of the formatting is screwed up. If I open it under explorer, it's fine. Any suggestions as to why firefox is messing up the yahoo formatting?

The whole yahoo homepage is pushed to the left side and listed in a columnar format. None of the picture graphics appear as well. It's seems like yahoo isn't compatible. The whole page is setup in almost an outline format with numbers for each topic. (for example, Mail is showing as #1 with a small box with a decimal underneath. #2 is Autos with a box with a decimal underneath..and so on. The links are just boxes and there are decimals throughout. At the top left of the page, displayed over the Yahoo title is "YAI". If I close out and open yahoo under explorer, the site is perfectly normal so this tells me it has something to do with the firefox formatting. Using windows vista 2007.

I do not want to download another virus program.. I do not believe it is a virus. I am running the full version of Norton 360 and it is doing a daily scan. I have Windows 7, 64 bit OS.
This is very irritating !! If I wanted Yahoo I would ask for it !

  • Everytime I open Firefox, I either get a not responding page or a new tab page that won't let me open any website.

I am starting to get tired of not being able to use my Firefox web browser because everytime I do, it either opens and doesn't respond or it opens but it doesn't let me access any website or even my bookmarks.
I am having to use Google Chrome (which I do not like) but I can't update anything because I am not using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

    Hi akadeejay,
probably your Internet security software (firewall or/and antivirus, antispyware) preventing Firefox from connecting to internet, see:

  • I delete one box(was 9, now are 8)of the "new tab page" , wath i got to do to bring it back?

    http://i1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb459/dingoud/aqweetry.png
    i cant use that box

You can change the order of the boxes on the about:newtab page and drag them to a different position to pin them to that position or you can remove them by clicking the close X of an item to block them.<br />
You can drag a bookmark or history item and drop them in a slot on the about:newtab page to pin them.<br />
Changes are stored in the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder under the pinnedLinks key and blockedLinks key.
If you delete the chromeappsstore.sqlite file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset those keys then you need to reset the <b>browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone</b> pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the <b>about:config</b> page and close and restart Firefox to assure that the chromeappsstore.sqlite file gets initialized properly.<br />
Otherwise the about:home might not be working.

  • How can I make "Open Link in New Tab" open the new tab in the same window, not a different window?

When I Ctrl-click a link and choose "Open Link in New Tab" it chooses to open the new tab in a different window (one that's already open) rather than opening the new tab in the same window. Even though the other window is minimized, it automatically gets restored and placed on top of the window I was in. This interferes with my context, forcing me to minimize the window again to get back to the one I was in before. I want the new tab to open in the same window, so I can still see the tab I was in. Some links seem to have the "Open Link in New Tab" behavior automatically, so I never know when I'm going to get thrown out of my current window. Very annoying.

If you have a mouse with a scroll button then try to middle click the link to open the link in a new tab.
It is also possible that the links use onclick JavaScript instead of a href to specify the action.

  • Where is the new tab toolbar button in firefox 6x

in firefox 4.x there is a toolbar button for new tab, where is the button in firefox 6.x?
can this be downloaded as a add-on or theme?

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window.
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.

  • I Hate Bing and when I click on a Firefox NEW Tab and search I keep getting Bing results, I used to get Google which I would like back, my homepage when opening Firefox is not Bing but all tab searches retrieve Bing results.

My homepage when opening Firefox is not Bing, yet for some reason today it started using Bing instead of Google for my NEW tab search results. I already deleted Bing from the search bar, no results. Deleted Bing from my computer's control panel. I just want to be able to click a new tab and have my results in google as I always have.

hello, you have a malicious addon present on your pc. <br>please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove ''LyricsParty''.
also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • How can I eliminate the "new tab" when I open Firefox to my preset Home Page?

I have Firefox installed on a desktop and a netbook. On the desktop, when I launch Firefox it takes me to my homepage, and that is the only tab open. On the netbook, it opens to the homepage correctly, but there is also a second, blank tab, carrying the header "New Tab", just as though I had clicked on the "New Tab" icon in the toolbar. Since my homepage is a specialized search engine which opens each result in a new tab of its own, having the blank one already in place is annoying. How do I stop it from opening on launch?

Make sure that there isn't a pipe symbol appended to the home page setting.

  • How do I have my bookmarks appear within my home page when opening firefox

    Dear Firefox,
After an embarrassing amount of frustration, I was able to sync my bookmarks from my desk top PC, to my new MacbookAir...so proud of me :) All of my 690 bookmarks are on my Macbook.
On my desk top PC, when I open Firefox, all of my bookmarks are immediately visible on the left side of my Firefox homepage which is yahoo.com. I would LOVE to have this identical manner of opening Firefox on my Macbook and seeing the bookmarks in their various folders, all on the left side of my opening homepage. As of now, I have to go to the top of my Firefox homepage and tap on "bookmarks"....I'm glad they are all there, but it would be awesome to have them displayed without the extra step. My thanks are yours,
    Jeff

Thank you mha007, your suggestion has always been my "go to" when I was using my PC. Maybe I'm too "green" when it comes to my first Apple lap top....It didn't work for me when I clicked ....but here's what I ended up doing...I played....on my Macbook, I simply went to the very top Firefox bar. I went to "View", and scrolled to "Sidebar". Within "Sidebar", I clicked on "bookmarks"....and voila, it worked like a charm.
P.S. Guess what! Because of you I just tried something. On my Macbook, there is no CTRL button....there is a button that says the full word "control", and that's what I used along with "B"....it doesn't work. I just tried my Macbook button that says "command", and then tried the "B"....WOW, how easy was that....it worked! Thank you for responding to my post.

  • Not responding when opening FireFox 4.0b7

    Hi there,
When opening FireFox 4.0b7 the browser hangs for about a minute and I get (Not Responding). If I use FireFox 3.6.13 I have no problems at all or if I use any of the other browsers, link IE9 Beta. What is going on?
The opening webpage we use is: www.tlc-online.co.uk/ I have changed the opening homepage to www.bbc.co.uk/ and the same thing happens.
Thanks for reading and any help you can give.

This will most likely due to hardware acceleration. There are a number of bug reports that are still being worked on to improve startup times with hardware acceleration turned on.
You can turn off hardware acceleration to improve startup times. To do that in the Tools menu select Options to open the options dialog. Select the Advanced panel, and then the General tab. Uncheck the setting "Use hardware acceleration when available".
