When opening iPhoto: Error, can't open because damaged or incomplete

I tried installing iLife '11 (accidentally) even though I already had it but quit the installation process. Now, my iPhoto application shows a white disabled icon and when I open it, a message is displayed that says "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." I don't have an iLife '11 disk. How can I fixed iPhoto?

No. Installing an existing program is not necessary but (generally) will not hurt anything
You can reinstall iPhoto for the original source - either on the system restore disk that came with your computer or on newer Macs accepted from the App store
Worst case is you can purchase iPhoto '11 from the App store for $15.00

  • Encountered SQL Developer Error 'Can't Start because MSVCR71.dll is missing

    Hello,
Thanks for looking at this entry
I have an older version of SQL developer and it suddenly won't run with the following error
'Can't Start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program.........'
And it is indeed missing. So, rather than download what might be a virus from the internet (new version of MSVCR71.dll ), I tried to do a new install of SQL developer from:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
I put it on my D drive, unzipped and tried to launch.
It asked where I had java.exe (full path name). I found it at C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
Now I encounter: Cannot find J2SE SDK installed at path C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
    Please help

    Hi,
    The 32-bit and 64-bit Java 7 JDKs include only msvcr100.dll, 32-bit Java 6 includes only msvcr71.dll, and 64-bit Java 6 has neither!
Also, keep in mind that Java 7 is not certified yet for ANY* version of SQL Developer. The standard recommendation is to install the latest update in the Java 6 JDK code line (currently 1.6.0_45) and use that. Make sure to get the 32-bit version!
    Regards,
    Gary

Corrected which Java downloads actually contain the msvcr71 and msvcr100 DLL versions. Sorry for messing it up the first time!

It's sounds like you may need to rebuild your iPhoto Library. The article below has the steps on how do that.

      Windows XP

The same problem exists with the German Windows version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
    The error message says nothing!
I wasted a lot of time checking the photo files but there was nothing wrong.
Then I monitored the hd-access to find out WHAT a file is missing: it seems to be about the cache files of the program that isn't orientated right about it's own files!!! It seems to be a big fat bug!!!
The hint here really helps but it also means that all compressed files will be deleted and compressed again. That takes hours of time and lots of GB temp-space on the drives.
I think Apple should deliver a bug-free version of iTunes as soon as possible. And Apple should talk to the customers for that they must not waste their time because of bugs in Apple software.
    Will Apple read this?
I can't find an email-adress to send it directly to apple.

  • Premiere Pro CC - Crash when opening because of network disk cache

I have had premiere fail to open for a while now on one of my secondary PC's. This computer was setup with a network drive as its disk cache/links to projects.
This is so multiple editors can work off the same RAID. Works perfectly, aside from the fact that windows somehow unlinked the network drive. Once this happened premiere fails to launch and crashes when starting the program.
I had got the network drive linked back up at one point and premiere launched again running with zero problems. Again windows messed up the network drive, and premiere again, does not work.
I need to reset the settings for premiere (the disk cache settings).
    THINGS I'VE ALREADY TRIED:
I already tried holding Ctrl + Shift to reset, did not work.
I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the settings were not removed and program keeps crashing.
I would just relink the network drive and then once premiere launches change the disk cache and never do that again, but sadly the computer will not relink to that partical drive.
Let me know if you need any more details,
I'm running windows 8, latest version of CC (just updated). I have 32gig Ram, I7 processor overclocked to 4.4GHz, Nvidia Graphics.
    Thanks much

    Hey there!
Well now your post is over one year old but recently I had the same problem.
Solution was what you were thinking: Redirect the path. But where??? I searched the registry and there you have it:
    Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Common 8.0\Media Cache
There's a key called FolderPath. Set that to a local drive and Premiere should start again.
btw adobe: that's really a bad bad bug or misbehaviour. if something is not working software should ask for another solution instead of just crash...

  • ThunderBird sucks. Step 1: Type in your recipients emails. Step 2: Send your email. Step 3:Error can't send because I suck and only accept contacts in your list

I remember having a similiar problem. It was caused by the session not using the properties passed in. I seem to remember I needed to set a system property at startup, but can't remember what it was. JGuru has this to say though:
    Q:
I'm getting my Session with Session.getDefaultInstance and its not getting changes to the Properties passed in. What's wrong?
    A:
In getDefaultInstance(Properties props), the Properties are only used in the initial call. Future calls ignore the setting, returning the previously created Session. If you need to change the Properties, like to change SMTP servers, you should use getInstance(Properties props) instead.

  • Iphotos-Calendar - can I change to days to Sunday to Monday

When creating iphoto calender can you change the days to Sunday to Saturday
    Not Monday to sunday

Haven't tried this but go into the System/Language & Text/Region preference pane and change the First day of the week to what you want.  Reboot, launch iPhoto and see if that changes the calendar.

When trying to open iphoto I get the error message "You can't open the application iPhoto because it may be damaged or incomplete." How do I fix this and get my photo's back?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

Just purchased a new mac with Mountain Lion installed. My iPhoto isn't working. Error message says "you can't open the app "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete.

First try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does then make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • I have the version of iPhoto that comes with my OS when I purchased my MacBook, but now I can't open it, because it says this, "You can't open the application "iPhoto" because it may be damaged or incomplete. Please help I have tons of family photos.

1 - the iPhoto application is an application and does not hole your photos - your photos are in the iPhoto library an dour normal daily backup will back them up so your photos are safe
2 - what exactly does the error message say? You probably need to reinstall the iPhoto application form the original source
3 - note that no version of iPhoto comes with any OS - iPhoto comes with all new Macs but not with any OS and most OS versions can run many different versions of iPhoto

  • When opening iTunes I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled, reinstalled many times - nothing! help please.

When opening iTunes on my new Windows 7 PC I continue to get the same messages, 'The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing' and 'iTunes was not installed correctly. Error 7 (Windows error 126)' I've uninstalled and reinstalled many times to no avail, even tried it on a different user account and still nothing. I recently installed Panda Internet Security 2012 (about 12 days ago), initially iTunes worked fine as usual but within the last few days I've been  unable to open it with the same messages appearing. I've read through some of these pages and tried everything that's been advised, uninstalling and reinstalling while internet and laptop security is swithched off, downloading tools to completely remove anything related to iTunes, tried it in Safe Mode, nothing has worked. I've also noticed that in the start menu when I click on iTunes, it says '(empty)' where it should have the logo and ability to start the program, does this mean it doesn't download + install properly each time I've tried? Any help would be enormously appreciated.
