When paused, image brightens on its own in Canvas/Viewer
So here's a new one to me, but hopefully not to you:
I'm making a new demo reel--when I bring in any piece of video, FCP asks to make the settings match the file for the timeline. I do, and when I pause the video in the timeline, the image automatically brightens visually. When I play, it resumes the brightness it had previously while playing. When I say the image brightens, I mean it's less contrasty (black levels are raised). Anyone know what is causing this?
well, I know some people drop h264 into their project even though it is not an editing codec. your computer is working very hard to play this as an i frame codec and this may be what is happening.
you might find the DV stuff doesn't exhibit the behaviour you are talking about and the h264 does. that and attempting to play the frame rate according to the sequence settings VS the frame rate of the clip, is a lot to ask from a machine.
When we get multiple codecs and frame rates here we get everything to a common codec and frame rate. If there is 29.97 and 23.98 mixed we go to 29.97 unless the 29.97 can be reverse telecined properly. almost all the time it cannot, so the 23.98 is converted to 29.97, a common codec is chosen and then we edit

Let me use a specific example to ask my question.

My own thought is when we never have to instantiate a superclass object (e.g. an abstract class), then we place
common fields in the abstract superclass and have subclasses access these fields via protected getter/setters to
access the superclass' fields. This is the principle of reuse.
But when you do need to instantiate a superclass and the superclass does need to maintain its own fields, then
I would need to duplicate the accountBalance field and getBalance() method in the subclass.
Is my thinking correct or incorrect?

We want getBalance() to return BankAccount's accountBalance when we use a BankAccount object, and SavingsAccount's accountBalance when we use a SavingsAccount object.I seriously doubt that. I think you're confusing a BankAccount with a Customer, who can have more than one account.
In every system I've ever seen, a SavingsAccount IS-A BankAccount - that is to say, it's a genuine subtype. Now, it may well contain other fields ('interest'?) that a normal account wouldn't, but 'balance' ain't one of them.

Here's what I am asking:
1. I need something that is animated that blinks or flashes to alert the viewer to scroll down the page. I would put the wording: Scroll Down for more (and then an arrow blinks or gently moves up and down to alert the user to move down).
2. is there a way that the entire homepage on it's own moves downward?

Making an image look like its on a canvas?
Hi guys,
I am using Photoshop CS5, I generally find it very good and love the features it gives me, i however am having trouble trying to achieve something but i dont know if it can be done,
I am going to be selling Canvas Prints and i dont know if theres anyway i can make a jpg image look like its on a canvas or even turn the image to a canvas design, this includes making it look 3d. The reason for doing this is it will save me having to manufacture every single image i have onto a canvas for a photo.
I hope somebody can help me

My U-Verse RG keeps pausing and resetting on its own...
I've only had U-Verse for about 3 weeks now, and since it was installed the RG regularly pauses or freezes during live TV, on demand programs, and DVR recordings. Sometimes it will unfreeze quickly (less than 30 seconds), which isn't a huge deal but is annoying. Many times, however, it will reset entirely. Again, this wouldn't be a huge deal (though very inconvenient) if it reset quickly. But there are times when the cable will stay out for 30 minutes at a time. I can do a power cycle and get it back up and running if it won't reset on its own, but this isn't something I anticipated having to do a few times a week. What's really weird is that sometimes the main TV (the one in our living room that is directly connected to the RG) will be frozen while the bedroom TV (connected through wifi) works perfectly fine. The internet is also working perfectly when these issues happen. Does anyone have any idea why this keeps happening? I've seen a LOT of posts about U-Verse doing this, and I certainly wouldn't have signed a year long contract if I'd known this was a recurring issue for U-Verse users. My fiance's parents have U-Verse and we've never seen this sort of thing happen on their TV. :-/ Any help would be appreciated!

Pull the plug on the DVR and STBs.
Pull the power plug on the RG and wait 10-15 secs.
Plug the RG back in and wait for all lights to come back on.
Plug in the DVR next. Wait for it to become active and then plug in any STBs, one at a time.
Rebooting will fix many, but not all, issues. -
Phone turns off when charging/ringtone changed on its own, all/most contacts were removed
My phone has been acting weird for some time now, months. It started with the text icon showing I had 1 text, always, when I dont have a new one and also it showed the same text I had last over and over in the widget bubble. It still does the widget bubble but not the text number anymore unless there is a real text there. I think I deleted something Go SMS or something to help with that...anyways now all of my contacts are gone...and I cant get fb to sync, i click on syn now and it does nothing under settings. Im unhappy with the way my phone is performing as a whole. In addition when I plug it in, and yes its the charger it came with BUT now that I think about it recently I did use someones charger thinking if it fits and charges then its ok...now what? I cant take the battery out unless i unscrew things? Isnt that bad for my phone??? My ringer is all messed up...I deleted all apps thinking it was a bug/app problem. Still happened so I added them back... HELP!:)

When will Canon start making its' own software for remote control since Pixela is so terrible at it?
It totally sucks that Canon dares sell their camcorder on the fact that YOUR smartphone is the remote control and yet they have ZERO support on the software! At present your chances are far more likely that your smartphone will not work with the Pixela software and that you WILL NOT HAVE A REMOTE CONTROL for your Canon product. Canon seems very uninterested in taking care of this problem.
How many people have bought a Canon product with the promise of your remote control being your smartphone and then not finding that they have a phones that is not “compatible” ?!?!?!? Is Canon expected everyone that buys one of these to then buy a matching phone? This is crazy and it sure puts a terrible light on Canon!
This is my first Canon product and I am NOT impressed! I have the Canon Vixia HF R42 and Android 2.3.4 and I am NOT a happy camper with Canon! Send me my damned remote control for this camera!Canon should have a complete list of all the phones that do not work with this crappy software maker! Better yet, they should include a real remote with their cameras, but at present Canon needs to advertise that more than likely their camcorders with be remoteLESS for you! This is crazy that you don’t know until AFTER you get the Canon product home that you might have to buy a new phone to have a remote control.

Was using my iPhone 4 when it turned off on its own
I tried turning it back on and it came back for a few minutes but it turned itself off again. all day this has been happening and has gotten to the point where it's turning off only a second or two after flashing the apple logo. I've tried holding the sleep/wake and home button for 15 seconds while plugged in but that didn't work. I bought it used a couple of days ago and it was working fine the day after I got it but it started having the issues today. Like I said, it's an iPhone 4 and is running the latest iOS. any help is appreciated.
Could be possible that you bought a lemon.

6th Gen Nano turns off on its own
My nano is turning off on its own after a few minutes of play. Any advice?
Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

Can you control how Windows 8 resolve its own hostname?
I've got a Windows 8 machine with two network stackts, one is real that is connected to the internet, then other has been created by virtual box to serve a virtual network. When Windows attempts to resolve its own hostname it always selects the ipaddress
for the virtual network stack. Where as I want the hostname to resolve the public address, e.g. the one listed in the DNS server. Accoring to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172218 the resolver first checks to see if it is its own hostname, thus ignoring
any entries in the hosts file or DNS service.
Any ideas how to control this initial behaviour of the resolver and return the correct address for the hostname?

(route print) and NIC settings.
2. For FQDN you need to use public IP address(es). (I do not see any more detailes that would help give better response.)

ITunes relaunches on its own when iPhone is plugged in?!
Hi guys,
This "issue" never happened before, but since I upgraded iOS to version 7 on my iPhone 4 (GSM), iTunes (also recently and manually updated to the latest version) will restart after I close it when my phone is plugged in in USB. Basically, I back up / sync my iPhone, then close iTunes. About thirty seconds later, iTunes restarts on its own, and I have to close it again to keep it that way, until the next restart.
At first, I thought it had to do with a loose or shaky USB slot, but I let my Mac sit on a flat surface, with the iPhone by its side, and every time I close iTunes, it restarts on its own, no matter what. Repairing permissions didn't help.
This is driving me nuts, all the more so since I've checked in iTunes preferences, and couldn't find any mention of a "keep alive" iTunes functionality.
I should add that this problem also happens when syncing via Wifi, but not as regularly as in USB mode.
Ideas, anyone? Should I check or uncheck something on the iPhone?Well, sure enough, there it was, and boy, it didn't come alone...

IPod mini goes into pause on its own
My iPod mini goes into pause mode on its own even though the lock is on. I have to then, unlock and press play to continue. Any idea if this is a hardware or software bug. Thanks.
I have the same problem. It is indeed the headphone connection. Sometimes I just barely touch the jack and it pauses, very inconvenient for a mobile device!!! Is there any way to cancel this stupid function? I am old enough to turn my ipod off after use and when I forget it, I will just recharge it. Excuse my sarcasm, but I hate function that are only noticed when causing problems. For now I have to get off my bike and press play everytime the cord moves a nanometer!

Music pauses on its own after upgrade to ios 6
I have a problem that has surfaced since installing the latest OS update on my iPhone 4. The audio in various apps (spotify or the apple dedicated music player) frequently pauses on its own. At first I thought I was having a wifi interference/dropped signal problem. But the wifi is both strong and fast. The router is about three feet away from the phone Even tried changing to the 3G network No dice. Same problem.
My next thought was that notifications were somehow to blame since they typically mute the audio briefly when I receive email or news updates. But I've tried turning off the notifications (even dropped the email accounts to see if they were somehow causing the problem.) Again, no dice. The problem continues. However, it does seem more likely to occur when a notification or calendar update occurs.
In some cases I've found if I leave the iPhone alone the problem sometimes fixes itself with the audio returning. But not consistently.
I've only noticed this problem since installation of the latest 5.1 OS update. Given that that update has some audio-related features I'm wondering if that's where the problem lies.
I have also tried rebooting the iphone but that doesn't seem to help.
Anyone else having a similar problem?I was told to try this and it worked:
"mine did that the other day, hold the home button and the lock button at the same time...if that doesnt fix it hold the home button and at the same time plug your phone into itunes...then you'll have to restore it from the backup"

Since ios 6 update hotmail fetches or push on its own. I have hotmail set to manual. Best I can tell its only hotmail and not yahoo. Is this a known problem? How do I make hotmail stop checking for mail when I have it set to manual?

IPOD Pause on my iphone resumes play on its own
When I am using the ipod on my iphone and pause in the middle of listening to a podcast, it later resumes on its own and plays the rest of that episode and all the ones that follow in that podcast. How do I get it to pause until I am ready to resume?
It happened again to me today: after I paused a podcast, I started something in iTunesU and paused that. A few hours later I received a phone call. After I ended the call, the podcast resumed.
