When Ping my Server i get a IPv6. Is this normal?

Hi,
I have made a new and clean install of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials on my local office server and when i ping or traceroute my server from one of my office desktop computers that is running Windows 8.1 i get a IPv6 address instead of a regular IPv4 IP
address.
So my question is if this is the normal behaviour? Or should i disable something on my server to get IPv4 address?
Im asking this because on my network i have always used IPv4 and on my current setup is my router running the DHCP that has a permanent IPv4 IP 192.168.0.10 lease setup for the server. So should't i get the IPv4 192.168.0.10 address instead of the IPv6 address?
So my question is if this is the normal behaviour? Or should i disable something on my server to get IPv4 address?
Thanks

Hi,
It is normal for clients that have IPv6 enabled to use it to communicate between themselves, theres nothing to worry about with this.
if you want to use only IPv4 you can disable IPv6 on your network cards on PCs/Servers but this isn't recommended and theres no real need to do it. Your machines still have and can use IPv4 addresses to communicate as well as the IPv6 ones.
Thanks
Daniel
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your advice.
On my office i have some desktop computers running Windows 8.1 and others running Windows 7. All the DHCP and DNS are managed by my router (TP-Link TL-ER5120) and on the router is set permanent IPv4 IP lease for my server.
So should i change or disable IPv5 on my server ir this way he is using both IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time?
In a simple way, i just want to make sure all my office network is properly setup, because before i installed Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials i have never saw IPv6 addresses on my network. Also on my router i can find the option to enable or disabe IPv6.
So can someone please advice the best setup for my case?
Thanks

10.7.4 is the latest update of MacOS X Lion. Run Software Update in System Preferences.
Since you state to run 10.7.2, Software Update will have to use the combo updater to bring it up to 10.7.4. This will entail a large download that will take some time so have patience. I suggest the following steps:
Restart the Mac, press and hold Command-R to start up in Recovery Mode (More info: http://www.apple.com/macosx/recovery/ ).
If needed, select the desired language to move to the next screen (only if it is the first time in Recovery Mode).
Select Disk Utility in the bottom of the list, Continue...
Choose the hard disk drive device on the list ( xxx.xx GB APPLE HDD ...) by clicking on it.
Click on Repair Disk button, wait for it to finish.
Choose the Lion boot volume, Macintosh HD, by clicking on it.
Click the Repair Disk button, wait for it to finish. If any errors are found and the process does not end with a "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK." message, click on Repair Disk again.
Click on the Repair Disk Permissions button. This will take awhile to finish.
Quit Disk Utilities, choose Restart from the menu.
Now run Software Update in System Preferences, choose to apply all missing updates. This will take quite awhile, depending on how fast your Internet connection is. The Mac will need to be restarted when the updating is done.
Run Software Update again to have Safari updated to the latest version. This is necessary since Safari 5.1.7 needs OS X 10.7.4 to be running already.

The hard drive on my MacBookPro recently crashed.  The Apple store replaced it.  Since then I can't open iphoto.  It asks to rebuild library; when I click yes, I get: "Aperture cannot access this library; reset permissions." I don't own Aperture!  Any thoughts on how I can rebuild the iphoto library?  Currently I can't even get into it.

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

    Hello,
You did NOT get MAC address, this is IPv6.
ON Server, open regedit.exe, Navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters
Create (32-bit DWORD) DisabledComponents and set Value Hex is

Hello, i´ve noted that my IPhone 4 gets really hot (burn the hand) when i´m listening to the radio, or even when it´s charging the battery.
    Is this normal??
    Thank you guys!!

No, if it's too hot to hold, you may want to have it evaluated by someone at the Apple store. Good luck!

OK, having waded through your post , I can tell you that the MySpace problem involving QuickTime _will not_ install any corrupted software on your computer; at least no such exploits has been mentioned anywhere that I've seen. The MySpace problem stems from a malware QuickTime movie that launches a JavaScript from a third-party web site that can corrupt your MySpace profile. Where the message you seem to be getting is coming from I can't say; perhaps from the AOL client itself.
BTW, your post was very difficult to read and make sense of, so it's not surprising that no one responded as they were probably as befuddles as I was, if not more. When asking for technical help on a forum like this, it pays to be as brief as possible while still providing the necessary information. Since everyone here is just a fellow user, if a post seems to be too much work to make sense of, most people will just skip it and move on.

    Hello:
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
When I try to install Windows Server Backup - i get the error message "The component setup program encountered an error:  0x3701.  The referenced assembly could not be found.
Aside from the gui, i tried using the command line "ocsetup WindowsServerBackup"
The original installation disk was a HP OEM disk and was on an USB External Drive.  Maybe the system is looking for the USB drive and the HP OEM disk.
    Thank you again.

    Hi,
The issue could be due to the update packages got corrupted.  So it is failing to deploy the package and also resolve the execution update and package. We need to replace the files from the DVD. So the only option is to do an in place upgrade.

  • My MBP Retina gets very confused when I plug in/unplug external monitors. Is this normal?

I've noticed my MBP Retina is more easily confused than my old MBP when using external monitors.
The problems occur after unplugging from an external monitor. Unless I actually re-start the computer, the resolution in some apps (e.g. Safari) fails to revert to retina quality. I am often left with the toolbar and windows so far off the laptop screen that it is impossible to reach them and the OS is unusable (have to restart). And just now the machine went into a strange fit where it kept powering on and off the displays every few seconds, apparently unable to decide what mode to be in. Again, I had to restart.
Is it normal to expect that I would have to restart the machine when moving between external monitor/laptop only combinations?
All these effects are fairly intermittent (although very frequent) so could be hard to reproduce at the Genius bar.

  • When are you going to get rid of your "this is embarrassing message"? it is highly annoying and I may switch back to IE because of it.

This message pops up after a crash. Of course it is embarrassing to you. Do I need to know how you feel about it? Mainly it is annoying to me that it crashed. I don't want to know what you think or that you're sorry. Just fix it. It's not cute. It's not clever. I have started using Internet Explorer more and more to avoid this eyesore.

  • My MacBook Pro with Retina display is getting very hot, is this normal?

I recently downloaded Counter-Strike Global Offensive and Minecraft on my Mac, and after about a minute of playing one of these games, my Mac would get very hot right above the keyboard. The fans get very loud and it seems a bit unusual, Is this damaging my Macbook pro?

Use it and keep it on when it gets very hot take it to your local Apple Store you might be successful and receive a new one, because the unit has to have some type of defect. Take your receipt if you still have it.

  • T400 general build quality? Did I get unlucky or is this normal?

I bought a T400 in September 2008, so just about 2 years ago. I was really pumped because of the Lenovo reputation for good laptops and I like the way they look. I got to customize it with switchable graphics etc.
Well right from the start I had some issues. My fingerprint reader wasn't working correctly. It would sometimes not wake up from sleep properly or something and be unavailable, or take over a minute to become ready (effectively making it useless). Well I called and got the palm rest replaced right away. The customer service was very good and quick.
Then my headphone port cracked for no reason, other than plugging in headphones. It still works but doesn't hold onto the plug anymore so it comes out easily. This is part of the MB and could not be replaced easily without sending in my whole laptop for repairs which would take a couple weeks. I couldn't do without my computer that long because I was a student and needed it everyday, and it wasn't that major of an issue, more of a stupid annoyance.
Then my disk drive started not reading discs all the time. It wasn't really a big issue, just had to try a few times. But it got worse. By the time it got pretty much unusable (can't even install Windows from DVD, have to use a USB), my comp was out of warranty.
Most recently my computer started shutting off randomly. Happened once, then again, then more frequently. I noticed that it happened when the CPU was under load and noticed I was getting a Critical Thermal Event error. So installed TPFancontrol and made sure my fan was working, and it was. But my temps were very high, they would be around 75 idle and go up to mid-high 90's under load!!! I took my computer apart and removed the fan heat sink. It looked like the thermal compound was put on very poorly and there was barely any at all on the actual CPU. I cleaned it off the CPU and GPU and reapplied some AS5. Now my temperatures are back down to 55-60 idle and below 80 under load.
My question is, are other people experiencing these kind of quality issues with the T400 or other newer Lenovo laptops? I know that Lenovo took over IBM and from what I thought, the quality was the same, at least the first year or two. But with these kind of issues I don't think I am likely to buy a Lenovo again. Unless my experience is abnormal.

    Skurvy,
Man, all those little things seem to add up over time...
Honestly, I've not seen any widespread comments on headphone jacks or the optical drive, so seems either that you've had some bad luck with individual components, or it's environmental. I've not seen optical drive issues specific to T400, but opticals in general don't do well in a dusty environment and it sounds like it was degrading over time. Have you tried a cleaning disk? Just a thought.
The thermal grease on all the fans and heat sinks are pre-applied as a matrix of little dots of exact spacing and diameter so that they spread out to a uniform film when installed. As it ages, the factory grease does seem to get hard, not specific to the T400 and generally not an issue. Arctic Silver or equiv does seem to work rather well if you have it apart- glad that lowered your temps. I assume you blew out the heat sinks with canned air while you were at it? They can accumulate an amazing amount of dust over time that can lead to overheating too.
Also, I assume you've applied all BIOS and driver updates? Sept 2008 was a fairly early build of the T400, so there have been a number of updates released. You sound pretty savvy, so you probably have, but just thought I'd mention it.
    Best regards,
    Mark

  • 800w error when synching (exchange server?)

    Hello,
Bought an 800w but haven't been able to synch properly since initially setting up the device. I get the following error when synching:
"The server could not be reached.  This can be caused by temporary network conditions."
Googled for solutions and came to the conclusion that the phone and/or PC thinks I'm on an exchange server as if I were at work. However, this is my home PC and it is not networked (except for wireless internet).
I'm thinking this is simply a settings error, but I don't know how to fix it. Any ideas?
    Much appreciated!
Post relates to: Treo 800w (Sprint)

Is the error when you sync "over the air" or when you connect to your PC? What kind of email do you have set up?

After installing Lion on my mini, I no longer get a "recognition sound" when I plug in a usb device.  Is this normal?

I am not sure any Mac every had a sound for plugging/unplugging USB devices.
You may be right. It's only on Windows that the sound is created and heard.
I know that since Tiger on this MBP, when I plug in my external scanner, I never heard anything.
And plugging in my Blu-Ray recorder also does not make any sounds.
I cannot speak for anything but my Mac laptops, however. Desktop Macs might make a sound.
