When playing games

I have a compaq presario. I have update everything I can think of and cleaned it as well. but when trying to play a game from a webpage or listening to music say pandora. Everything stalls. Don't know what else to update. I don't know much about computers but I would like some help.

Any good computer store has hard drives for sale.  I just replaced mine.  If you have a seagate drive just buy another one and it comes with free disk cloning tools and guides for walking you through copying over your current hard drive to the new one.
I would type in google your type of computer with "users guide" after it.  So in my case I typed in "HP p6000 user guide" and came up with this:
http://bizsupport2.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01835715/c01835715.pdf
It takes a while to load, but shows you with pictures on how to take out your old drive.
When you buy a new drive at the store it should cost you about $50 to $100 depending on the drive you get.  Make sure you know what type of drive to get before you go to the store.  Older drives use IDE cables which may not be at your store.
Here is a series of pictures of IDE cables that attach to your hard drives.  If there are no cords that look like these attached to your hard drive then you most likely have a SATA drive.

In newer computers they use SATA (Serial ATA) cables.  Here are pictures of SATA cables:
https://www.google.com/search?num=10&hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1600&bih=775&q=ide+cabl...
If you buy a seagate drive and have one already (as mentioned earlier) you can use their cloning software and follow their users guide:

  • Powermac crashes when playing games

Hi. I've got a problem with my Powermac G4 (Dual 450MHz).
Everytime I play a game (Quake 3 or Redline for example) the mac crashes sooner or later and I need to reboot. I've checked RAM, fixed HD permissions, fixed the HDs and cleared all cache. The mac has a stock ATI Rage128 Pro and 640 MB RAM. My mac crashes only when playing games, never when in "normal use".

    Hi
It may be worth just checking the ventilation holes in the case aren't clogged with dust etc and the case fan is still spinning okay. If games are the only time you 'stress' the processors (e.g. you don't also use it for DVD encoding etc), perhaps it's a heat issue. You could try temporarily using it with the case open to see whether it makes any difference, which would also allow you to check the fan(s). It seems unlikely but it may be worth a shot.

  • Humming noise when playing games

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me solve a buzzing noise I'm getting when playing games.
I have a x-fi fatalty, gtx 480 in SLI and a x58a-ud3r motherboard and for the most part the x-fi works fine, however when I play 3d games I get a very irritating buzzing sound coming from the speakers while playing.
    Things I've tried...
Switching off SLI / only having one graphics card installed - no difference
Wrapping the x-fi in electrical tape to stop interference - no difference
Switching the pcie slot - no difference
    Latest BIOS - no difference
Trying x-fi different drivers - no difference
Using on board audio - no buzzing at all
Switching off 3d audio and crystallizer- reduces buzzing significantly but?still?there!
I'm out of ideas now... anyone else had this problem?

Well, I got Windows 7, I cleaned the inside which was quite dusty. I launched Left 4 Dead, had a minute of calm, then the sound of my fan started to increase slowly to the point when it sounds a bit like when you turn a Mac Pro on. It seems slightly better though. Probably by doing a full cleaning of the inside I could make it a bit less noisy.

  • Choosing gpu when playing games

    Hi,
I own a hp g6-2305sl running win 8.1, it's not a bad laptop, the only thing I can't control is the gpu when playing games.
I have AMD catalyst 14.9 and HD Intel driver 153330, but when I go to device manager there is only AMD HD 7600M series and not AMD HD 7670M. And also even if I select maximize performance and set the high performance gpu for games, game is slow has hell, like using the Intel gpu.
    Please post a solution

  • Sound lag when playing games

    Hi,
My Z1 compact has sound issues when playing games.
There is a noticable sound lag of about a second (not much but is quite annoying), not only on newer games but also on the older ones, Angry Birds for example.  My recorded videos or YouTube don't appear to have the same issue.
The problem seemed to occur after I had installed Worms 2: Armageddon when the phone got extremely hot and crashed. It was after the phone had reset and cooled down that I noticed the sound lag issue and Worms 2 was running at a very slow frame rate.
I then installed Worms 2 on my ASUS TF201 and it runs perfectly with no sound or heating issues.
I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue so i'm wondering if my phone is faulty.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Computer lags when playing games.

    Hi folks.
I have a problem with my computer, several in fact.
    1. Computer lags when playing games(Battlefield/Desert Combat) even on lowest video settings, especially when there is a lot of action.
    2. When I open "My Computer" it searches for 3-5 minutes before files appear, but when opening "my documents" for example, it opens it without any delay.
    3. Startup is fast but when logging on, computer hangs for a couple of minutes, before completing log on.
Is there anyone who can help me out???
      plz help

Hi NovJoe, thanks for the reply. Nice rig by the way.
Ive disabled all programs except essential windows programs in Task Manager, it didnt help.
Ive changed to new drivers, uninstalled them, changed to older drivers, tried 7 different drivers.
VGA card is running cold, CPU is on 40 cel. under full load, RAM is cool as well. PSU isnt running hot either.
Even checked the chipset, and thats cool also. I switched cabinets and that helped a bit(different PSU).
Now I only have problems with the lagging when playing.
So now Ive ordered a new PSU and mobo (MSI 865PE NEO2-V) I have a feeling its the VGA slot thats not giving me enough power to the VGA card.
And the new PSU is just so cool I had to have it. When Ive complete the build Ill post pics on the forum.
Anyways, Ill let you guys know if this will solve my problem.

  • When playing games on Facebook, why do I keep getting requests to store information on my computer?

When playing games on Facebook, why do I keep getting requests to store information on my computer? When playing games on Facebook, why do I keep getting requests to store information on my computer?

    Welcome to the forum.
Exactly what program is throwing that request message?
Does that message list any details, such as WHAT will be written/saved to your computer?
As ATR mentions, I am not sure how PrE figures into the mix. I would anticipate that your message is coming from FaceBook, or from the OS, or from your anti-virus/anti-malware program.
Regardless, be VERY wary of any program, or Web site, that wants to write to your computer, unless you have delibertly invoked something that you DO want to do so.
    Good luck,

  • When playing games on the ipad I have no sound and it it very slow.

when playing games downloaded from the app store I have no sound and the games arte very slow?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

If You Think iOS 7 Feels Slow Here’s How to Speed It Up
    http://osxdaily.com/2013/09/23/ios-7-slow-speed-it-up/
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Letter keys are not working on MacBook Air when playing games?

Hello. I'm using 10.6.6 on my MacBook Air 2.1 (2009 model).
I've got a really strange issue when playing games (any game produces this issue). ONLY the letter keys aren't working. The rest is working - numbers, function keys, arrows, tab, enter, delete, etc. Only the keys A to Z are not working.
This happens both on native games (like Hedgewars from App Store) and ported ones (like Need for speed).
    What's the issue?
    Thank you!

    Bump.

    Hello Zijie92,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with sound on your iPhone.  Have you checked to see if the Side Switch is enabled?  This could be muting the audio:

  • Ideapad Y510P overheating when playing games...help

Idk anything about your model of laptop, but i have the z580 that gets really warm too. 78 - 82*C when playing games like Starcraft 2. I have a desktop computer fan that runs of USB. + a 18$ cooling pad. But they both only keep the laptop 1 - 3 *c diffrence.  So.. Idk what to do there ither. unless I just take off the bottom of the **bleep** thing and set it on a window box fan...  loool or spend 100$ on a better cooling pad.. Idk. but even the more expesnsive ones have reviews saying only 1-5*c in diffrence.  And i cant find anyone that knows how to reccommend a good cooling pad. Everyone I tlak to just says it means its a **bleep**y laptop and to upgrade. But thats not useful...

My Y500 got a little hot, so I bought a Logisys Computer Dual 140mm Fan Aluminum Laptop Cooling Pad Model NP8. Best $20 I've spent... It comes on when I turn the computer on, and it stays cool, which in turn will make the laptop last longer.Heat is bad for the electronics, and the number one cause, besides the hard drive, for laptop failures. I agree with the reviews, in that the aluminum corners are very sharp, but it's easily remedied with some fine sandpaper. It's quiet, and totally effective! Thermaltake's fancy lighted big single fan is a joke; the fan died a few days after the 90 day warranty. I recommend the dual, or tripple fan setups, in fact I was deciding between the Logisys, and another aluminum cooling fan setup, where you could place the fans where they would do the most good, right by the vent openings on the bottom of the laptop.
