When printing a web page, I only get blank pages
I have a new iMac with MAC OS 10.4.11. I connected an HP psc 2175xi all-in-one printer, and when I try to print a web page from Safari, I only get a very small portion of the header and all other pages are blank. When looking at the Print Preview, every thing looks like it has printed fine, but when it is sent to the printer only blank pages come out. I am able to print from other applications fine. It seems to be related to printing web pages only, because I have also tried to print using Firefox, but the same problem occurs. Can anyone please help?
Thanks.
I did not have the HP printer software for Mac OSX installed properly. Once installed the problem went away.

I can't print anything from Firefox. I get blank pages
Ever since I downloaded the previous update, I can't print anything from Firefox. I just downloaded version 3.6.8 and I have the same problem. I am using a Mac with OS 10.6. Whenever I try to print an email or a web page from Firefox I get a single blank page.
I can print fine from Safari. Firefox worked fine until I installed version3.6.5 (or whatever the previous version was)Thanks I will check out the site!

Do nested tables conflict with ?split-by-page-break:? -getting blank pages
I have an RTF template with multiple levels of groupingwith sub-totals and pagebreaks at several levels. I'm using nested tables to keep the lowest level group together. The nested table works fine as far as keeping the rows together - if a group doesn't fit on a page, it is pushed to the next page; however, it has created some blank pages in the report. The first time I report the lowest level group details, if they don't fit on one page, I get a blank page followed by the data. Each time the lowest level group changes, this may or may not occur depending on the amount of data.
If you have come across this before or have some suggestions, I would really appreciate a response. I've been working on this for quite some time and have run out of things to try.
The template is quite complex and the XML very long, so I won't post. However I can email them to you if you'd like to take a look.
Thank you for your help,
Tam

Yes, I tried removing the <?split-by-page-break:?> and using MS hard page break (ctrl-enter) and that doesn't work either. My totals moved to a separate page by themselves and I'm still getting the blank pages.
<?split-by-page-break:?> did exactly what it was supposed to until I added in the nested tables. It's very possible that I did something wrong with my nested tables (only my second XML report). Does anyone have a sample with nested tables that they would be willing to share? -

How can i fix this?Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
* Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
* Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
>In Firefox 4 Safe mode also disables plugins (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and hardware acceleration (Tools > Options > Advanced > General) -
Worked okay with previous version of Firefox 3.6.18
The following worked for me:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/684867
"Problem: I had the same problem but with mac osx 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.6 sometimes prints and sometimes does not, but the preview was always blank and I could not save to pdf file.
Solution: I downloaded Firefox 3.5.10, installed it on my desktop and opened it, tried print preview and it worked, quit Firefox 3.5.10 and ran 3.6.6 and voila! print preview is working fine and I can save to pdf fine.
I guess running 3.5.10 fixes the profile in a certain way. I have no idea how that happened but it worked." -

VenkatHi,
hard to tell what the problem is because all that the stack trace tells us is that you are invoking a bounded taskflow from a browser. If the bounded taskflow is built with pages (not page fragments) then this should bring up the default activity.

Custom page size results in blank page
I have a networked HP Color Laserjet 2605dn printer and have some 7.25"x5.25" envelopes that I need to print addresses on. So, I created a FileMaker database and went to print them with a custom page size I created and only get blank pages. If I change the page size to US Letter, it's OK, but obviously, the text appears in the wrong place. I used a different application Intaglio to see if it's a FileMaker issue or Mac OS issue and the problem occurs with Intaglio, also.
Just to be sure, I have re-installed the most recent HP driver (4.3.5.153) and there's still no difference. I do have the proper driver selected. The Generic Postscript driver does not appear to allow custom page sizes. I'm led to believe the HP driver may simply not support custom page sizes. Looks like I might have to use a Windows system to print these???? What a shame. You may find that this a printer limitation rather than a driver issue. Is the envelope size you are using a supported size by the printer? If not, the envelope could be printing blank because the X-Y coordinates for the start of the text are based on a different size to the one you are loading into the printer. This would cause the text to print to a section that the envelope doesn't cover.
Some printers make you select a free-size setting for non-supported sizes and then rely on the driver to write the text onto the correct spot. Do you have such an option.

Turning off headers and footers when printing a web page.
Is it possible to turn off (or reduce the size of) the
default header and footer
when printing a web page? I am using Internet Explorer 6.0.2
900, and only want
it to work with my computer and a specific printer.
I am using the directive @page normal { size : portrait;
margin : 0;} in a CSS
stylesheet specified as media="print".

Of course, but It's not a problem with logical inches per se.
The
logical inch is just another way of looking at what is meant
by the
screen dpi value. Scaling problems, with different dpi
settings, has
always been a Windows problem and results from the way that
the OS
handles scaling. Fonts scale perfectly. Actual windows, and
other
containers, don't. This is a problem programmers have
grappled with
since the first Windows OS. Vista is the first OS to try to
tackle this
problem.
>Thus, percentages or ems work best when cross-platform
compatibility is
>desired."
And that is because the users screen dpi, and hence logical
inches, are
totally irrelevant when specifying ems and percentages.
Ems and percentage equate to a number of pixels, not inches.
The sole purpose of screen dpi setting is to convert anything
sized in
physical inches into a number of screen pixels. That is the
_only_
purpose of screen dpi. It's a very simple algorithm.
(physical) inches x screen dpi value = number of pixels
How do _you_ think a font sized in points (inches) gets
translated to a
specific number of pixels on screen. I'd be interested in
your answer.
For the screen a conversion from physical inches to pixels is
always
necessary because, as you say, pixels are the unit of screen
measurement
but they are not just a "standard" measurement, they are the
only
consistent measurement. It's not the users program that
creates pixels
on screen but the Operating System. The program requests the
OS to
create a given font at a given size and the requested size
_must_ be in
pixels. Windows can't _directly_ create a screen font that's
specified
in points (inches) because it has no notion of what a
physical inch is
on screen. It does know what a logical inch is because the a
logical
inch is defined by the screen dpi value. That's what the
screen dpi
value is for. If a browser programmer wants to bypass the
variability of
screen dpi on different computers then they ignore dpi values
and work
directly in pixels i.e. in ems or percentage. When ems and
percentages
are specified one is dealing only in pixels.

Of course it makes more sense to set font size specifically
in pixels
because that's the only unit the OS can use to put something
on screen.
I can't see where you get the idea that either Michael Bowers
or I have
said that there is a unit "defined as 1/72 of a logical
inch". Every
Windows program written takes it that there are 72 points to
a
_physical_ inch.

You are implying I've said things which I haven't. I have
never, at any
time, said one should use points or inches in designing web
pages. You
seem to have missed the point that what I am doing is
explaining why you
see the results you do on screen when those unit are used.
Somewhat more
informed than "Points are only for print because I don't know
what they
mean on screen, so they must be meaningless".
>As Eric Meyer says on page 110 of "Cascading Style
Sheets: The
>Definitive Guide" (2nd Edition), "points can be a very
difficult
>measurement to use in document design."
And again, I've never advocated using them in page design. A
close
reading, however, from page 83 onwards shows that Eric Meyer
has an
imperfect notion of the meaning of screen dpi. Heresy!! He's
hardly
alone, which is why I did a web site.

Once again, I have never advocated that. You are setting up a
straw man
to knock down. You can do better than that.

When I open a template I only get the first page. Any ideas?
Hi, When I open a template in Pages I only get the first page and not the continuation pages. Does anyone have any ideas of what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.
This same question was asked & answered earlier today. I'll use my same response & the same screenshot I used then.
Skimming the templates in the Template Chooser shows you all of the pages available in the template once you open it. You can insert the one(s) you want, even more than one of any of them. Most users don't want or need all of the different pages, especially when they start the document. -
Prior to beta 4.12, the pages printed correctly. Now, the fonts are small and the text spacing is incorrect. All text has at least one extra space between the letters.
This happens on ALL sites when printing a web page.
I tried printing the same page in Internet Explorer and it prints correctly.See this thread:

I am looking to upgrade to the entire CC suite from the Lightroom/Photoshop package. The packages page says the complete suite is available to existing customers for 29.99 monthly. But when I try to upgrade I only get one option for 599.99 yearly. Can I get clarification on the $29.99 offer and who it is available for. Thank you
Hi there
The 29.99 introductory offer is for existing CS customers ie customers with a CS3-CS6 product (suite or individual product).
Hope this clarifies matters.

Using a Dell Dimension E310 with Windows XP and Dell photo 924 Print/Scan/Copier. When printing from web pages on the browser the right portion of the print is cut off. It appears that the "folders" frame on the left side of the page is always printing with the page, which cuts off the print on the right side of the main page frame by the width of the "folders" frame. When I select the print command, the choice for selecting a particular frame to print is on the drop down menu, but is not highlighted for use. We have had this problem with Firefox for some time. Printing from IE or Word, etc. does not produce the same problem. We like Firefox otherwise. What is the fix?
You're right: most web pages do not use frames, so that option usually is not available.
I don't know why a page that printed just the main content before would change to printing with useless sidebars. Can you try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode and see whether it prints/previews correctly there?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does that fix it? If so, the difference usually is caused by one of your add-ons. You can restart the regular way and disable all non-essential add-ons here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Add-ons
In particular, check the Extensions category. -
I need pdf files so I can export, not hard copy. When I 'print' then 'save as pdf', I get blank docs. Why? How can it be resolved?
Which version of Acrobat?
What app are you printing from?
Which version of Mac or Windows?
Do these seem to be normal PDF documents - but just blank pages? How many blank pages? -
Acrobat Pro XI Create PDF from web page will only create first page.
Whether I try from within Acrobat or using the convert button on the Adobe toolbar my PDF cuts off at the bottom of page one and will not create subsequent pages including the rest of the webpage content. I've played with several settings. Any idea why?
I think I might have this problem too. Only difference is I am using Acrobat Standard. I have Acrobat Standard X on another pc and it works fine. An example of a web site page is https://connectonline.asic.gov.au/RegistrySearch/faces/landing/SearchRegisters.jspx?_adf.c trl-state=1766qhwwjv_4 I am in Australia. I hope you have access to this page where ever you are. Towards the bottom of the web page, there is a list of 3 documents. On my other pc, I can convert to pdf the whole page but on this pc, I only get one page.
