When printing a web page the type is spaced out all over the page, why?

when I try and print a web page out on firefox it spreads the words out all over the page so it is unreadable. I never had this problem until recently.

This is a regression that was introduced in Firefox 4.0 beta 12. It is fixed in 4.0 release candidate 1, which is now available. Go here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/4.0rc1/releasenotes/ and click on the green button "Firefox 4 rc free download". Note that you should do a custom install and change the install directory to the directory where your beta version is located. Alternatively, you should receive a notification that an update is available from within the beta version. Follow the instructions to download and install the update, and once you are running the release candidate, your printing problem should be fixed.

Often when I'm typing text into a form on various sites, be it Facebook or this very site, the vertical bar that follows the input text gets randomized all over the line and appears multiple times. The glitch disappears about half a second after I stop typing (as soon as the pipe character starts blinking), but it still drives me nuts when I'm typing something regularly. Sorry you are having problems, but probably some adware or malware.
Thanks for including System Information. I am not familiar with "''Vonteera Free Ads''" However it is apparently adware. Take care with advice followed from internet searches I would for instance NOT try the YAC site or tool.
Using the Firefox addons manager and the Windows Control Panel remove any obvious unwanted toolbars or programs. Then scan with multiple and fully up to date tools.

Please follow the advice in the link immediately above and then do the full scans as mentioned lower down in this post.

  • My mouse/trackpad are completely out of control. The cursor/arrow is flying all over the screen and closing/opening windows. What is the solution to this? Downloading windows for Mac?

So far I'm dissapointed with Mac O/S .....so many areas lack common sense, require unnessary extra clicks and is not as customizable as Windows. It's like Apple thinks you are a child and not entitled to choose for yourself so that they can control your info for you.
The mouse/trackpad problem is a major issue that Apple should be proactive in offering a solution for. If anyone has a solution to this I'd be greateful to hear it.
    Thanks,

Is this the first time you're using a Mac?
If so the learning curve is somewhat steep - but, if you put in the time and use this knowledge base whenever you run into issues you'll be up to speed soon enough.
With regards to the trackpad/mouse, you can adjust the sensitivity by:
    1. Click the Apple Logo on the top left hard corner of your screen
    2. Click System Preferences
    3. Click Trackpad
Adjust the tracking speed to your specifications.
Also familiarise yourself with the gestures (activate the ones you can remember)
To go back to the menue by clicking Show All
    4. Click Mouse
Adjust your mouse settings to your specification.
    And why use mac?
    It just works...

When I am working in Organizer 12, My cursor jumps all over the place and the screen keeps repositioning itself.  It is infurating and I can't get any work done. New desktop iMac using Marevick 10.9.1  and wireless mouse and track pad both slowed to lowest level.  Also tried using a tethered mouse but no different.  Anyone else have this problem.  Is it an Apple problem?

Is it a 'Magic Mouse'? If so that's why, there are many reports that it is badly behaved in the Elements Organizer. If not, do you have another mouse you could try it with (to rule out a hardware problem)?

If these occur on all sites, you may have an unwanted extension (or more than one) that is injecting the ads into sites. Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that flush the ads?

  • Clipping masks from AI jumping all over the place in AE

I have a project I've been working on for a while, and have encountered an extremely annoying bug that only seems to have appeared since the latest update...
Basically, I have a bunch of layers from Illustrator which have clipping masks within them. When I bring these into After Effects and add any kind of movement (camera, masks etc), the images inside the clipping masks jump around all over the place. Not the masks themselves, or the layers - just the images inside them.
This has only started happening since the latest update to CC 2014 - it's something I've done a million times before and it's always been fine.
Really hoping someone can shed some light on this, as I don't have much hair left to pull out...
    Thanks

one update - we had a look back at some of the previous projects we've produced using this technique, and it's still apparent there (so in CC & CC2014 projects) - it just seems to be much worse in this particular project.

  • Video Dimensions all Over the Place

    Hello there,
First off you'll have to excuse me as I'm pretty new to the whole video side of things. Well the problem is, I've created a DVD which is supposed to go to a client fairly soon - and the problem is while viewing it the screen size is jumping all over the place. I have video elements provided by clients which i imported as timelines, i have menu's with static backgrounds and i have timeline menu transitions which are dynamically linked from after effects.
The only part of the dvd that appears full screen (16x9) is the dynamically linked transitions. They are 720x576 D1/DV PAL Widescreen and are set to 16x9 in encore (greyed out).
The video stuff from the client is 720x405 Square Pixels set to 4x3 in encore (greyed out). This appears letter boxed and pillar boxed.
The menu stuff is 720x480 D1/DV NTSC Widescreen set to 4x3 in encore. This appears letter boxed and pillar boxed.
After reading what i've wrote in my last few sentences, i can now see the problem is because nothing is the same! So the question is more now what i do to correct it. Do i resize the client video and the menu images to 720x576 D1/DV PAL Widescreen? And if i do this will it crop the video or will it squeeze the video etc. on a 4x3 screen?
    Thanks for the help,
    Steven.

Ok, now I've resized all menu's and assets to 720x576 D1/DV PAL Widescreen (set to 16x9 in encore). On a 16x9 screen everything is looking very sexy indeed, but on a 4x3 screen it is letterbox. I tested this with a regular DVD which adjusts to fill the 4x3 screen.
Any quick way of achieving this?
It may be possible, but not with Encore - a menu is either full 4:3 or full 16:9, but not both. Similarly, 16:9 video from Encore will play back letterboxed on a 4:3 screen.
An additional note: not all commercial DVDs behave in the way you describe - sometimes menus are either 4:3 or 16:9, but not both, and nearly always 16:9 video is displayed letterboxed on a 4:3 monitor.

  • When Printing a web page from Firefox. The fonts are timy and all spacing is incorrect.

Prior to beta 4.12, the pages printed correctly. Now, the fonts are small and the text spacing is incorrect. All text has at least one extra space between the letters.
This happens on ALL sites when printing a web page.
I tried printing the same page in Internet Explorer and it prints correctly.

Of course, but It's not a problem with logical inches per se.
    The
logical inch is just another way of looking at what is meant
    by the
screen dpi value. Scaling problems, with different dpi
    settings, has
always been a Windows problem and results from the way that
    the OS
handles scaling. Fonts scale perfectly. Actual windows, and
    other
containers, don't. This is a problem programmers have
    grappled with
since the first Windows OS. Vista is the first OS to try to
    tackle this
    problem.
    >Thus, percentages or ems work best when cross-platform
    compatibility is
    >desired."
And that is because the users screen dpi, and hence logical
    inches, are
totally irrelevant when specifying ems and percentages.
Ems and percentage equate to a number of pixels, not inches.
The sole purpose of screen dpi setting is to convert anything
    sized in
physical inches into a number of screen pixels. That is the
    _only_
purpose of screen dpi. It's a very simple algorithm.
(physical) inches x screen dpi value = number of pixels
How do _you_ think a font sized in points (inches) gets
    translated to a
specific number of pixels on screen. I'd be interested in
    your answer.
For the screen a conversion from physical inches to pixels is
    always
necessary because, as you say, pixels are the unit of screen
    measurement
but they are not just a "standard" measurement, they are the
    only
consistent measurement. It's not the users program that
    creates pixels
on screen but the Operating System. The program requests the
    OS to
create a given font at a given size and the requested size
    _must_ be in
pixels. Windows can't _directly_ create a screen font that's
    specified
in points (inches) because it has no notion of what a
    physical inch is
on screen. It does know what a logical inch is because the a
    logical
inch is defined by the screen dpi value. That's what the
    screen dpi
value is for. If a browser programmer wants to bypass the
    variability of
screen dpi on different computers then they ignore dpi values
    and work
directly in pixels i.e. in ems or percentage. When ems and
    percentages
are specified one is dealing only in pixels.

    set a
    >font-size of 14px than use units that both you and
    Michael Bowers
    >define as "1/72 of a logical inch".
Of course it makes more sense to set font size specifically
    in pixels
because that's the only unit the OS can use to put something
    on screen.
I can't see where you get the idea that either Michael Bowers
    or I have
said that there is a unit "defined as 1/72 of a logical
    inch". Every
Windows program written takes it that there are 72 points to
    a
    _physical_ inch.

You are implying I've said things which I haven't. I have
    never, at any
time, said one should use points or inches in designing web
    pages. You
seem to have missed the point that what I am doing is
    explaining why you
see the results you do on screen when those unit are used.
    Somewhat more
informed than "Points are only for print because I don't know
    what they
mean on screen, so they must be meaningless".
    >As Eric Meyer says on page 110 of "Cascading Style
    Sheets: The
    >Definitive Guide" (2nd Edition), "points can be a very
    difficult
    >measurement to use in document design."
And again, I've never advocated using them in page design. A
    close
reading, however, from page 83 onwards shows that Eric Meyer
    has an
imperfect notion of the meaning of screen dpi. Heresy!! He's
    hardly
alone, which is why I did a web site.

Once again, I have never advocated that. You are setting up a
    straw man
to knock down. You can do better than that.

  • When printing from web pagess, right margin cuts off print, cant seem to reconfigure. Frames select on print choices does not highlight for printing options. What will help?

Using a Dell Dimension E310 with Windows XP and Dell photo 924 Print/Scan/Copier. When printing from web pages on the browser the right portion of the print is cut off. It appears that the "folders" frame on the left side of the page is always printing with the page, which cuts off the print on the right side of the main page frame by the width of the "folders" frame. When I select the print command, the choice for selecting a particular frame to print is on the drop down menu, but is not highlighted for use. We have had this problem with Firefox for some time. Printing from IE or Word, etc. does not produce the same problem. We like Firefox otherwise. What is the fix?

You're right: most web pages do not use frames, so that option usually is not available.
I don't know why a page that printed just the main content before would change to printing with useless sidebars. Can you try the site in Firefox's Safe Mode and see whether it prints/previews correctly there?
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
Next, try starting Firefox in Firefox
[http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Be careful not to "reset" anything permanently if you didn't back up.
Does that fix it? If so, the difference usually is caused by one of your add-ons. You can restart the regular way and disable all non-essential add-ons here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Add-ons
In particular, check the Extensions category.

David's book is a good place to start. This is really far more involved that can be covered in this forum. You'll need to get familiar with a database, most likely MySQL, PHP, how to send requests tot he database - queries - and most likely maintain a state with Sessions. As you can see, it's a bit involved. The good news is this skills you'll acquire to do this will go a long way! It will cover all the basic requirements of web application development.
