When printing from Firefox (and Thunderbird) the 'Portrait' and 'Landscape' dimensions are reversed, resulting in compressed images.

Using Windows 7, home edition. In print preview, when in Portrait mode, the page to be printed is shown in a vertical format, but the page layout is horizontal. It is reversed in Landscape.
Prints come out compressed and unreadable.

It seems that this is a Firefox bug, dating back to 2002, if you can believe that. Apparently, nobody who knows enough to fix it is available to work on it. You can check out the official bug report at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org//show_bug.cgi?id=154892

• How can i choose a lower quality print density when printing from firefox on my Mac. I cant move the slider along the scale ( I can when printing from the computer).

I can't change the print density when printing from Firefox. It is set at standard and although there is a "slider button" to use for choosing less or more density, it can't be moved. I can tick "grayscale". I can choose the density when printing from the computer. I have a Mac

I also have this problem where I used to be able to shrink a 2 page doc to a single page. Since upgrade to FF4 it no longer works - but you can choose say 60% and it will work. All used to work fine in FF3

• When printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

when printing from an online PDF, the page prints in extra large scale. How do I fix this?

This can happen when Firefox has misread the paper size from the information supplied by Windows. Clearing it can involve finding some obscure settings, but here goes:
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste print and pause while the list is filtered
(3) For each setting for the problem printer, right-click and Reset it. The fastest way is to right-click with the mouse and then press the r key on the keyboard with your other hand.
Note: In a couple other threads involving Brother printers, the preference printer_printer_name.print_paper_data was set to 256 and when the user edited it to 1 that fixed the paper size problem. If you see a 256 there, you can edit the value by doubling-clicking it or using right-click>Modify.

• Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3

Different Colors when printing from Photoshop and InDesign CS3
I have the following problem:
When printing from Photoshop or InDesign to a PostScript printer, Adobe recommends to let Photoshop handle the colors (I use the German version, so I don't know the exact term used, it changes slightly in all CS3 apps anyway).
The manufacturer however told me to let the PostScript printer handle the colors.
When I chose this option in Ps's print dialog and then choose ISO Coated as the printer pfofile, the results are fine.
But when I place the exact same image in an InDesign file and print from InDesign or export to PDF and print via Acrobat, again using "Printer handles colors", the results are the exact same as if I had used Ps and chosen to let Ps handle the colors (way too saturated and a bit too red).
·Photoshop CS3
·InDesign CS3
·Test image is a TIFF in CMYK Fogra 27 Coated (which is also the working color space in Ps and ID.
·Printer: Xerox Docucolor 3535
·Printer profile: ISO Coated
How can I make sure the printer handles the colors in other CS3 apps than Ps? I tried it with ID's print dialog (translated from the German version: Color Management > Options > Color Handling: PostScript-printer decides colors).
Thanks a lot!

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

• WhenI print from firefox on a Mac everything comes out 50% too light, if I save the image and print from the desktop it looks fine. No problem either printing from FF with Win7. How do I fix FF on the Mac?

My iMac runs bootcamp, so I have both OSX and win7 available. I run the latest Firefox on both as my primary browser. The printing looks like the ink is running low, but when the same image is printed from other desktop apps the printing looks fine.

Hi, Jordan -
Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
If the original drive in the newer Mac is a Western Digital, its jumpers may be set to Single, which WD drives often use when there is only one device on the bus. When a second drive is added, the jumpers on the original must be reset to Master.
OS 9's utility is named Drive Setup - you should find it in the Utilities folder on the hard drive. Run that. Select the added hard drive in the list, then select Mount Volume from the Functions menu.
You can also check with that utility to see if the OS believes the drive has been set to automount at boot. Again, select the drive in the list. Then select Volume Settings from the Functions menu - there's a checkbox in that screen to set automount (for freshly initialized drives, that's turned on by default).
Also, try running Disk First Aid (should also be in the Utilities folder). Let it have a look at the second drive, and repair anything it can.
Apple System Profiler should report the format of all drives it sees. Is the format of the drive from the old Mac stated as Mac OS Standard, or as Mac OS Extended?

• When printing from Firefox I get random letters, numbers, boxes.

This happens when I print from email and Firefox. Sometimes I get the random letters, numbers and boxes with a small phrase with correct spelling. For example, this happened when I tried to fill out a US passport form. The form itself was okay. What I typed in printed with the random letters, numbers, boxes except for my husband's occupation. That printed okay.

How do I do a screenshot? Sorry, I am not very computer literate.
Another problem. Since I changed to UTF 16BE we no longer can access our bank account. It allows us to log in but goes to the squares, letters, and numbers when we open the account statement. I am not sure what the code was before I switched to UTF 16 BE.

• 8500A horizontal steaks when printing from ipad and other devices

When I print from a remote device (I-pad, I-phone) my documents have horizontal streaks that are bad enough to prevent you from seeing the words.  This also happens when I print from my Mac to the printer when printing a PDF or other document from the internet.  These all are situations where the print window doesn't give an option to print the highest quality.

• I get blank printouts when printing from Firefox (see details) anyone know how to remedy this.

I receive the following error mesage when clicking on the properties button within the 'print' dialogue box "Function address 0x0 caused a protection fault. (exception code 0xc00000005) The application property sheet pages(s) may not function properly."
When I attempt to print any pages from Firefox, the printer goes through the motions and seems to print every word but no ink touches the paper, I just get blank printouts. Printing from all other web browsers and desktop apps is just fine (Lexmark P3150, Win XP SP3).
Anyone know how to resolve this??

• Why does "My Yahoo" open in a new tab [only after a restart of the system] when I open Firefox and my options are set to restore tabs?

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened
== recently...I usually only shut down for reboots.

If you use Clear Recent History in Firefox 3.5 and later or Clear Private Data in Firefox 3 to clear the 'Browsing History' when Firefox is closed then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

• Print quality problems on Fuji Xerox printers when printing from ArchiCAD and/or Preview.

Hello,
We experience major print quality problems when printing directly from Graphisoft's ArchiCAD, Nemetscheks Vectorworks and from Apple's Preview.
Basically we see various artefacts on our printed drawings, e.g. line thicknesses change and hatched patterns / fills are reproduced with patches where the lineweights and clours change completely... which is not acceptable.
This affects the following Fuji Xerox printer models on both 10.6.x and 10.7.x with the latest FJX PPDs:
ApeosPort C5540I
Xerox LF6605 MF
The workarounds for us are to either print PDFs from Adobe Acrobat Reader or via the rather dated Accxess Tools, besides that we prefer at times to print directly from a given Software it is also not always possible to generate a PDF and print it from Acrobat Reader... especially since the latest Adobe Reader update to its print dialogue makes printing from it extremely tedious - in fact we are considering going back to 9.5.2
Obviously, we have approached FJX Tech Support and are awaiting a reply - however we are disappointed that this is happening on relatively new equipment and wonder if anybody else has already found a solution.

The symptoms you mention could be related to the FJX engine and Acrobat is masking this fault. To test, you can create a Postscript file from the print dialog of ArchiCAD or VectorWorks and then download this to the Apeos RIP. If this produces the same result as when using the printer driver from the applications, then it would indicate that the engine is not capable of handling the data being sent to it from these applications.

• Results are different when printing from CS5 and CS4

• WHEN PRINTING FROM FIREFOX ALL I GET IS GARBAGE

• Acrobat X freezing when printing from IE and other apps

Since the last update, each time I try to print to .pdf while in Internet Explorer, or other Microsoft applications, it will not print to file AND it freezes the application (I am left with a print window frozen AND the application frozen).  Any ideas?  Thank you.

Please try repairing Acrobat and check if it solves the issue.

• How can page margins be changed when printing from Firefox for Mac OS X? (This is easy to do on the Windows version.)

Page margins can be adjusted from the page setup menu in the Windows version of Firefox, but there does not appear to be an equivalent menu in the Mac version.

Hi onlyhuman2-
I'm not familiar with the printing options using Windows. I've found this article on editing print options for a Mac: Printing a web page
That shows you how to shrink the page, and to edit page headers and footers. I'm hoping that covers the margins you were hoping to change.
Good luck!

• When printing from firefox, the page address prints in an illegible font. Same font also appears in certain field windows in the browser.

Why would the fonts in the page address print in an illegible font? It's a black background bar with a white jumbled cartoon-style font. The same font is present in certain field windows when filling out forms. I checked the fonts in preferences and it all seems to be correct and normal. Could this be a Mac issue?

There is a known bug involving printing in beta 12 that has been fixed in the Firefox 4 release candidate which is due out soon.
