When printing from Illustrator it prints Black instead of Blue

We have had this issue for a while now and cannot grasp it.  We have CS6 and Illustrator decides to print whatever it feels like.  Printing to a regular PCL driver prints black ink where blue is supposed to go.  We also tried changing the print driver to Post Script with the same black ink printing instead of blue.  Also in the print options right before releasing the job we changed the use Illustrator colors to use Post script colors and it still does the same thing.  We sent the job to a different printer and it prints out alright.  Why doesn't it work on our HP Laserjet 3800dn?  All other documents not created in Adobe products will print out blue just fine.  I want to know what is broken in Adobe Illustrator.

Ask in teh AI forum and provide more details like system specs, exact print settings, color management and so on.

  • When printing from Illustrator the document prints Black instead of Blue

Computer is Windows 7 x64 running adobe CS6.  The printer is a HP laserjet 3800dn the driver for the printer is PCL5 but it does the same thing printing with the Postscript driver.  We have a navy blue color that prints out black for some reason. In the print options right before releasing the job we changed the use Illustrator colors to use Post script colors and it still does the same thing....Prints black where blue is supposed to go on the document.  Doesn't matter if it is a .jpeg or plain text.  Sending the job to a different printer works which is a Xerox workcentre.

Well, I thought perhaps I skipped over where you said yellow printed but blue didn't...all I see is blue prints as black. And from your screen shot, it was that grayscale checkbox I was thinking of might have been set.
Do you have another of these HP printers available? If so, does it print correctly?
Have you made sure there isn't a corrupt driver and or updated drivers on your system? Can another computer print to this printer correctly?
Seems that if the Xerox prints it fine, then it isn't Illy.

  • Updated to ios5. Address and action bars,in safari, are now black instead of blue. Normal?

Hit a banner at the bottom of safari.  Went to a site that said my phone was being affected. Reset my phone. Now safari address and action bars are black instead of blue. Possible virus or overreaction?

Yes, iOS5 changed the interface of Safari. It's official. Not sure if you've noticed but auto-correct and spellcheck are missing from the search bar as well.

  • Color cartridges used when printing black only

    Hi HP
We have had  a 6600 printer for about 13 months.
The color cartridges are used up when only printing black only
Recently we replaced all three colors cartridges - week before thanksgiving - 2014 and the cayan and yellow
cartridges are totally empty - the black cartridge is full and the printer does not let us print.
we did not print in color at all.
    what can be done?
    Please advise
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hello SteveKowaliw,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you have some concerns about the colour ink cartridge usage.
I am going to give you a document that will assist when you Cannot Print When One of the HP Ink Cartridges is Empty.
I am also going to point out one section of the document so you have a better understanding on how the printer works.
"The printers listed in this document cannot print when an ink cartridge is empty even though the other ink cartridges have ink.
Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. A little ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature".
    Thank you for your time.

  • Why doe's my 8500A printer use color ink when printing black and also when unit is cleaning

I only print in black. I am required to buy all the colors because my printer will not operate when any cartridge is empty.
I was informed at Office Depot that all printers operate this way.  According to them it also uses ink when it goes through
    the cleaning cycle.
The XL ink package at Office Depot  (black, yellow, cyan, magenta) is $97.00 + tax.
I hope someone has a logical answer why this is set up this way.
Why do I need colors to print black?

The 8500A takes 4 ink cartridges and 2 printheads (one for black/yellow, and another for the other two colors). This design is so that you have have larger ink cartridges (stationary on the side, the printer only moves the printhead during printing). A drawback is, you have to have all the cartridges in, without the ink cartridges, the printheads could be damaged and would cost more to replace.
Printing black text uses black ink only, it does not use color ink. The "Clean printhead" function does print a color page and uses color ink, but you only need to do this when you notice lines missing (printhead clogged) in the printout.
If you print mostly black only, choose a model that uses cartridges that has a printhead built in. These printers typically can still print black with color ink out.

  • How to disable color cartridges when printing black?

Is there a setting to disable color ink cartridges so that my printer prints black and white documents using only black?  Selecting just "grayscale" or "black and white" doesn't stop the printer from using the color cartridge to "make" black.  I know there's a setting somewhere in OSX to bypass using the color cartridge (I've done it before), but I just can't seem to find it now.  Any thoughts?

I have not ever seen that option in System Preferences/Printing.
Are you quite sure that selecting Greyscale after selecting Quality & Media still requires the colour cartridges?
I ask this because I also have a Pixma (different model) which uses two different black cartridges, one standard size, the other twice as big, and I have always assumed that that is specifically to allow black-only printing.
But if it, for reasons known only to Canon and God, also needs the colour cartridges, it can't be much!

  • Strange lines when exporting from Illustrator

I am having an issue that's driving me crazy, I've tried everything and I still can't figure out why it's doing this.
I created a template in Illustrator,  very basic,  just some 1 inch circles.   The goal is to color them in different color palettes and then save it as a PDF.   In Illustrator,  they show up completely fine,  the pattern fills sometimes have those little seam lines but those don't show up at 100% so I'm not worried about that.
My issue is that when I bring these graphics into Photoshop,  these little white lines appear in random places,   these are not pattern seam lines and there's no reason I can think of for them to be there.  I figured it may have been a corrupt file,  so I started from scratch and the lines are still there.  I've tried  copying it directly from Illustrator and pasting it into Photoshop,  same issue.  Saving as a TIFF,  same issue.
Here's an example of the line I'm talking about,  it's faint but noticeable on my screen,   any idea what might be causing this?
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v648/hazelsmrf/line.jpg
The only thing I can think of is that when I turn off all pattern fills and only use solid color fills,  these lines don't show up.  I'm not sure why a pattern fill on a circle two circles away would cause a line to show up on a solid colored circle that's completely unrelated to the pattern fill though.   I am using CS5.

My Illustrator is fully up to date so that doesn't seem to be the issue.
I loaded the PDF into Acrobat reader and those lines don't show up there,  they only show up in Photoshop,  strange?
How I've brought it into Photoshop:  save as,  PDF,  or Tiff,  these didn't work.
Copied it directly from AI into PS,  did not work.
Saved as .AI and loaded that into PS,  did not work.
I just tried it as PSD and it worked!  However I've not been able to duplicate that because every time I've tried to export it to PSD since then it says I don't have enough memory,  argh.   Not sure why it worked the first time and not after.
Oh and the pattern fills were created with a blank no fill square on the bottom,  then a color filled square on top,  and then a few circles in a diagonal to make a polka dot pattern. Nothing goes past the square,  there's nothing in outline mode to show why it would do this.

  • Why do colors slightly change when copying from Illustrator to Photoshop?

I want to copy a object from Illustrator and paste it into a Photoshop document with the same color mode and profile.
When I use the Eyedropper Tool on the pasted object in Photoshop the color seems to be slightly off.
Both the Illustrator and the Photoshop document have their Color Mode set to RGB
Both Applications are using synchronized color settings.
This also happens when the object is dragged or Placed. It does not happen when copying from Photoshop to Illustrator.
Could there be a problem with my color management settings? What actually happens to the color information, when it is copied from one application to another?
    Thanks for any help.

Why the heck are people still using these nonsensical hexadecimal HTML numbers?
Since some decades we got used to describe RGB values by decimal numbers 0...255.
Both your value sets are practically the same, but how they were converted from one
to the other, that requires an investigation, how Adobe workflows are distributed
    between California and Bangalore.

  • Wrong color in Photoshop when pasting from Illustrator

    Hey!!
I have what seems to be an issue with Illustrator CC 2014 edition (have tried CS6 as well). The problem occurs in InDesign as well.
The problem is that a color shift occurs when I Copy something to Photoshop from Illustrator. The color profiles are all synced across all Adobe apps and I'm using sRGB as RGB and Coated FOGRA39 as CMYK. The RGB values are identical but the colors are different even though the profiles are synchronized, and double and triple checked! No proofing is activated.
See the images for the color shift that occurs. The same shift also occurs when I save something from illustrator as a jpeg for example. This leads me to believe that there is something in Illustrator and Indesign that's not working as intended and that Photoshop is the correct one.
    More info:
    Windows 7 x64 w/ Geforce GTX 970
A Spyder 4Pro-calibrated Asus P246 (when I use the Windows default profile this doesn't occur. I have even tried the default profile from ASUS and the same thing as with my own profile occurs)
Reinstalled the complete CC suite twice.
Tried with a different graphics card and the current calibrated profile - same thing
I have 3 screens and the problem occur on all three with three different monitor icc profiles. But the color shift is more apparent om the ASUS since it's a wide gamut monitor perhaps?
In Photoshop layer panel, color picker etc. the colors reflect the ones in Illustrator but the image in itself is a different color. Perhaps the PS layer panel isn't color managed?
The RGB colors used in the screenshots are 0 255 0.
Would be very grateful if someone could help me in the right direction so that I can enjoy synced colours. =)
    Thanks!

    I solved the problem.
Seems that for some reason the synchronized settings from Bridge CC did not stick! So I changed all the settings to North American General Purpose 2, applied and opened the applications, and then back again to my modified Europe Prepress 3 and - voila! Now all the colors are correct across the Adobe applications!
Note to self: always try the easiest possible solutions first...

  • Washed out graphics when pasting from Illustrator

Has any one else seen this?
When I paste graphics from Illustrator CS3, whether they are bitmap or vector, they look washed out in Pages - almost like there's a slight transparency.

the .png is the best file format that Pages uses.
To interchange artwork with Adobe applications, the clipboard is technically not the correct workflow. Between Adobe applications, use the clipboard to interchange artwork. Between Adobe applications and non-Adobe applications, use the normal file export functions of Adobe applications and file import functions of the system supported in non-Adobe applications.
Colour managed and resolution independent artwork in Adobe Illustrator should be saved to disk in Adobe PDF using Adobe Illustrator's save function. The saved PDF should then be placed into Apple Pages. This way the appearance in Adobe Illustrator and the appearance in Apple Pages should be identical, or else there is a bug in the system PDF support.
The difference you are seeing is due to a difference in colour management settings between Adobe Illustrator that uses internal settings and Apple Pages that uses system settings. When you interchange over the clipboard, you are interchange vector objects and raster objects with colourant values in percentages, but you are not interchanging information about the colours those colourants should form. When you save out PDF from Adobe Illustrator, the mapping of colours to the colours they should form is embedded into the PDF as ICCBased colour specifications. The PDF is now self-contained and independent of the colour management settings in the application where it was originally created.
When you try to compensate for changes in saturation, hue or lightness that occurs in an object interchanged via the clipboard, you are trying to do manually what the colour management system should do automatically, provided the ICC profiles and the rendering intents related to them are known to the importing application, in this case Apple Pages.

  • After Effects Crops layer size when importing from Illustrator file

I don't know if this was reported before, but when importing an Illustrator CS3 file with multiple layers as a cropped composition, some of the paths/objects get cropped horizontally - and the cropping is not even on both sides either (not that it makes any better or worse)- it is more cropped on the left side.
I really would love an answer to this because I work mostly in that fashion, and it will be a pain if I lose this feature.
    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

Yes, I made sure of that.
In this specific case every other layer got cropped, independent of the size of the path, for example - in one layer I have the background that did not get clipped, the next has an oval (smaller than the first) - that got cropped; next some text - not cropped following that a cloud shape get's cropped and so on.
Right now I do not have time for doing some tests, but I'll do as soon as possible.
This has been my favourite workflow for client logo animation and I have been craving for new features in this feature such as sub layers becoming pre-comps etc.

  • CS4 How to disable anti alias when pasting from Illustrator to Photoshop?

    Hello,
I'm trying to paste vector artwork from Illustrator into Photoshop but it seems no matter what I do Photoshop anti aliases the illustration. Is there a way to keep this from happening?
The whole point of making the art in Illustrator was to keep the edges clean and the colors limited.
    Your suggestions are much appreciated.

    In Illustator >> Object >> Rasterize >> Anti-aliasing>> None
Copy and paste this into Photoshop.
    Or
Illustrator >> File >> Export >> psd >>turn off anti alias

  • Hp color laserjet 2600n, very dim grayish film when printing black only

For some reason, my hp color laserjet 2600n has started printing with a very dim grayish film over each page. I've had this printer for about a year, and it didn't do this at first. Does it no matter what program I print from. I'm sure it's a setting issue, but haven't been able to figure it out. Any ideas?
And, when I select to print in black only, it still prints the color on web pages. Is there a way to print from only the black cartridge? These are the options in the printer dialogue box under color: print in grayscale, black only, 4-color. Under these settings are other options, edge control, half-tone and RGB color. I've tried each setting individually and still the gray film. The only other possibility I can see is under Print Options, it has draft quality or image quality. I've tried both and still the film.
    Have any ideas.

    1. take out all of the ink cartriges and look at the big black roller on the door for streaking, if streaking, clean with a lint free cloth dampened with windex (window cleaner) then close the door.
    2. let it run to initializing.
    3. open the door and look and the black roller on the door to see if you have streaking. If no streaking put one cartridge in and close the door and repeat the steps until you find what cartridge is causing the problem.
I did this and found that my cyan was creating the lines on my paper. I cleaned the cyan roller with a Qtip and some rubbing alcohol and it works fine now, no more lines on the paper.
    Cheers

  • Make HP7510 printer use other cartridge when printing black and white document.

    Hi,
    HP7510 inkjet printer.
Assuming normal black is used up. Will the printer continue with the
photo black cartridge to complete documets?
Can I configure the printer to do so?
    Claes

The photo cartridge is used for graphics and printing on photo paper.  You may be able to use the photo cartridge by selecting Photo paper in the driver settings.  This is not a recommended solution - printing will be slower and it may put too much ink on the page.  It may be an OK solution for temporary printing.

  • Colors are appearing washed out when saving from Illustrator to PDF

    Hey Guys,
I am working on a cover page for my office to go along with our bid packages. I have finished adding all of the elements that they wanted and added a little flare to it. Its a really basic document and when I save it into a PDF form, the colors appear washed out or like the PDF adds a lot of white. the Rich black appear gray, the red appears pinkish... and the blue is much lighter than it looks in AI.
I need this to be completed soon, and I have been having this problem for a while now. Im not sure if its just the way it looks on the screen, or if it will print like that. I am a self taught Adobe guy.. So I am a little confused as to how to make this all work
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Steve

    Steve,
What the PDF ultimately looks like depends on the settings when you create it. If you open it in Reader, it may be somewhat off, but in Acrobat it should look right (if your colour management settings are the same as in Illy).
A rich black may be customized to match the artwork in question (such as no C if there is no C in the artwork), or you may have some of each, often with emphasis on C and maybe M; there may be different views on what a rich black should hold.
