When printing on both sides, get unreadable stripe on second page, Imageclass D420 printer

Have a Canon Imageclass D420printer.  Lately I am getting a 1/2 inch wide vertical stripe of smears the full length of the page when printing both sides.  The blurred stripe is approximately 3" from the right hand edge of the sheet.  The smear shows up on the second side 3" from the left hand edge of the sheet.   I reprinted the same document and only printed on one side of the paper and the smear does not occur.   Sounds like some roller needs to be cleaned?    Anyone have similar problem.
Thanks,
Jerry Hudack

Hi jerryhudack,
To help isolate the cause of the issue, please check the following:
1. Confirm that either LTR or A4 paper between 17 to 21 lb (64 to 80 g/sq.m.) is being used when duplex printing (Note: envelopes cannot be used for 2-sided copying).
2. If using specialty paper, please test standard laser copy paper for comparison.
However, if the above has been checked, the fuser roller in the main unit may be dirty affecting the second side of your duplex printouts.  Cleaning the Fuser Roller can help with the issue.
The below procedure will step you through the cleaning process. To prepare, load a sheet of blank LTR paper into the multi-purpose tray and start cleaning.  Here are the steps:
Note:
- Use standard paper as the cleaning paper.
- Cleaning the roller takes approximately 130 seconds.
- When some jobs are stored in memory, this function is not available.
1. Press [Menu].
2. Press [ < ] or [ > ] to select <ADJUST./CLEANING>, then press [OK].
3. Confirm a sheet of blank LTR paper is loaded in the multi-purpose tray.
4. Press [ < ] or [ > ] to select <FIX. UNIT CLEANING>, then press [OK].
Cleaning starts.
Throw away the cleaning paper after use, and perform a duplex test print to confirm the issue has been resolved.
If unresolved, please contact us here and we'll be glad to help you further.

  • How do I get my HP 7520 to stop printing on both sides of the paper?

I do not know why, but my HP 7520 Printer started printing on both sides of the paper rather than one side.
How do I reset it to print on only one side

    Hi @Wineroth
I can help you disable the duplex printing feature. I suggest resetting the printing system to delete all printer presets. I suspect something was saved at some point that is causing the printer to print 2 sided.
OS X Yosemite: Reset the printing system

  • HP Color Laserjet 2550n has no more printing on both sides

In 2005, I bought an HP Color Laserjet 2550n to go with my laptop.  I had no printer problems.  I loved the feature where I could print a document on both sides of the paper.  The option would show up on the properties menu on the print document dialog window.
Over the past summer, I lost my laptop to a crash and had to get a new laptop using Windows Vista OS.  I hooked up the printer using the USB port and all seemed good until I tried to print on both sides.  In the properties menu of the printing dialog box, the option has disappeared completely!  I tried updating the drivers - didn't fix it.  I tried reinstalling the software that came with the printer, but Windows Vista OS wouldn't accept it.  Help!  I don't know what else to do.  I appreciate any help.
I have also tried Bob_Headrick's advice on Vista Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide for "No option for two-sided printing."  The option appeared in the properties menu, but the printer still did not print properly.

Sorry guys................I answered my own question.
I went into the HP P2015 user guide & found the answer. on page 32.
I went into printer properties, device settings, noticed that duplex unit for printing on both sides was showing as "not installed". I changed this to "installed", and it worked.

  • HP Officejet Pro K5400 - will NOT print on both sides

I recently built a new computer and everything is working great, EXCEPT one thing...when trying to print on both sides using Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, or another program it gives me the error message below.  My previous computer had Windows 7 installed as well and my HP Officejet Pro K5400 had no problems  printing on both sides of the paper.  I tried using the Starter CD that came with my printer, but unfortunately since it wasn't for Windows 7 (only for Windows XP and Windows Vista) it will not install it.  I also went to HP's website to downloaded the latest drivers.  I was able to download them, but it hasn't fixed my problem.   By the way, I do have a duplex unit on my prtiner (in case you're wondering).  I'm not sure if my duplex unit still works, or if it's something else.  If there are any solutions that you can give to fix this problem, I would be very appreciative.  The error message is below:
    Automatic Two-Sided Printing Module Missing
The document has been configured to print using the Automatic Two-Sided Printing Module but the module is not installed in the device.
The document will be printed one-sided.

    Hi,
First remove and re-0attach the duplex accessory at the bak of the printer to enure it is well seated:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00845167/
Next ensure the duplex unit is set as installed within the print driver by entering the  Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.
Now try printing on both sides and check for any difference.

  • Our HP laserjet , model P2050 , does not print on both sides even though the " auto rotate " box is

checked.  Is there someway to cause the printer to print on both sides?  ( There is another printer box that  comes up in other  instances and it has a "Preferance" box which , when clicked on, gives a different way to choose  two-sided printing, and that one works to cause the printer to do as wanted.)
The  box that shows " auto rotate' doesn't have a print preview.

  • Printing on both sides

Hi, I have an HP laserjet P2015dn. In the past, to print on both sides all I had to do was check the box in "finishing", and it would print. Now, for the past month or so, when I go to print on both sides, it is telling me it has to be "manually".
I purchased and installed QuickbooksPro 2011. This printer problem occurred after I installed Quickbooks?? Could this be the problem? I had 2008 version of Quckbooks installed prior, nd never had a problem to print on bothsides. I don't think Quickboks is the problem, but if it isn't than how do I correct to "automatically print on both sides???
    Thanks for your input.

  • 'Print on both sides of paper' in Adobe Reader 10.1.2 + DFS shares....

    Hello
After the latest update a new print dialog is available which includes the option to 'Print on both sides of the paper'. Our printer (available via a print server in a Windows domain environment), is capable of printing duplexed copies of documents but is configured to default to not use duplex. When the option to do this from the Adobe Reader print dialog is selected the printer driver overides it and the document is printed normally (not duplexed).
Is there a way to hide this option? We often need to print duplexed copies of documents but usually set it in the print driver when it is needed. Because the option is being overidden it has the potential to create an enormous amount of wasted paper and toner and will increase our printing costs.
Also, when V10 was released, trying to open pdf's located in DFS share paths caused the program to hang. The solution was to disable protected mode. I tried enabling protected mode after this update (and previous updates), and restarted the application but instead of hanging, Adobe Reader now displays a message box stating:
There was an error opening this document. Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
If I disable protected mode and restart Adobe Reader the document can be opened.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi, Shatik
    Thanks for replying.
The DFS shares are mapped as a network drive. This is done just once using a batch file that uses the persistent switch. No roaming profiles, no username\application data path.
Since posting this I can now access PDF's, but many of our staff are now unable to scroll through an entire pdf without Adobe Reader hanging. Again, removing the checkmark in the protected mode option allows full scrolling of a pdf.

  • Photosmart C6280 not printing color/both sides with Mac

    Hello HP Community,
I have a Macbook Pro running iOS X 10.9.2 and a AIO Photosmart C6280. I am have downloaded the printing/scanning software and drivers. Everything installed without problem. I have also scanned with no problem. However, no matter what program I am trying to print from on my Macbook, the printer will not print in color and also will not print on both sides - even when the double sided feature is checked off.
I have been to all the discussion forums of relevance and can't find anyone with my same problem. Those that have similar problems, are running different versions of iOS and the steps suggested they take are not possible with this version. Please Help!

    Hello HP_USER,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you're unable to print in color from you Mac 10.9.2. I will try to help you with this.
Have you tried making a color copy from the printer? If not please do so, this is to see if the printer is having the issue stand alone.
I would also recommend looking at these documents:
    Missing, Faded, or Dull Colors
    Wrong Colors
As for it not duplexing, according to the User's Guide, this printer doesn't duplex as in it doesn't have a duplexer. If you are manual duplexing that would be slightly different, as it requires you to be flipping the page after the first side has come out. This document can assist you with that: Print on Both Sides of the Paper (Manual Duplexing)
I hope this helps you out, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • How do I print on both sides of the paper on microsoft word, excel for mac?

My printer supports printing in both sides of the paper, and prints fine on both sides any pdf file.
But there is no way to make it print on both sides when using Microsft Word or Excel
How do I set it up?

  • Print in both side of the paper

Anyone can tell me how I can print in both side of the paper?
    Thanks

Does your printer handle this automatically? If so you set that in the printer driver settings. If not, you have to print one side, then turn the sheet and print the other.
It's very important when you ask a question like this one that you provide a full set of information including your version of InDesign, the operating system, and the printer make and model.

  • Unable to enable duplex printing through e-Print (Print on both sides - flip pages on short edges)

I need to print on both sides on the HP Envy 100 - 410a.  How do I enable this feature.  Everytime I try this on ePrint, I have the email attachment printing out on two separate papers.  If I print direct from the document, then this does correctly print on the same paper on both sides, just the way I want it.
I need to get ePrint to work on both sides of the paper (flip pages by short edges) by emailing the attachment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, Duplex is not supported on ePrint at this moment.
